MasukELENA.
He tilted his head to me, giving me a knowing smile. Caleb snuck to my side, sliding his hand around my waist.
"What are you doing here? You didn't tell me you were in town." Caleb muttered.
My face scrunched up in disgust, and I tried to move his hand from my waist but he was stronger.
I was stuck in a dilemma, between trying to accept the fact that the person I slept with at the club last night was this man standing in front of me, who apparently is my fiancé's older brother. Or rather, my ex-fiancé.
And trying to walk out of Caleb after breaking up with him. One thing was for sure, I didn't want to be in the presence of either of them.
"Why are you staring at her like that?" Caleb asked again. "Do you know her?"
"Well, she does look familiar." Kai shrugged lazily, and the small annoying smile was still playing on his lips.
My heart skipped when he said this. I gave him all the eye signals I could think of, winking, blinking repeatedly, I even tried widening my eyes and shutting them tight but he didn't even look at me. Or maybe he just decided to ignore me on purpose. Asshole.
"Familiar?" Caleb pulled away slightly to stare at me. "Have you seen him before?"
"Have you introduced me to your brother before? And why are you being demanding? We're done, remember?"
Caleb's expression changed, his jaw was tight and he stretched his hand to hold me.
"Stop being dramatic. Fine, you can go home. I'll talk to you later, babe." He pulled me close, his lips were close to my ears as he whispered. "Get your acts straight and I'll just pretend you never said anything about breaking up, is that understood?"
"No, it's not. You should get what I told you into your skull. Don't make me cause a scene in front of your brother--"
"Oh no, I'm totally fine with you two fighting in my presence," Kai smirked. He still had that amused expression on, crossing his tattooed arm across the other clean one.
"You can go in," Caleb said to Kaiser. "I'll meet you inside."
We both stepped aside and Kai walked in, but not without trailing his finger up my arm. My lips fell apart, and a small gasp fell from my lips while I stared at him but he wasn't even looking at me.
Caleb's tight grip on my arm pulled me back to reality. "I'm sorry about what you saw yesterday."
"There's no need to apologize, I'm just doing what you two want. I'm going back to Rhea's house to pack my stuff and leave. I can't continue being a burden, don't you think?"
"And where will you go to? You don't even have a dime. And you still haven't told me where you went last night."
"If you really want to know, I'll tell you. I went to have fun. You're not the only one who's allowed to cheat. And now, it's no longer considered cheating because we're done. We're both free to do whatever we want." I yanked my arm from his grip in anger. "Have a nice and unbothered life."
"Elena!" He yelled but I ran down to the main road already before he could catch up with me. I flagged down a taxi which stopped with as much urgency as I had waved.
I told him the address of Rhea's house and he drove off immediately. I turned one last time to Caleb's house but saw Kai standing in front of the door instead of Caleb.
His eyes were on mine, even from a distance I could feel the intensity of his stare.
I swallowed hard, taking my eyes off him. I was yet to process what I did last night and the effect of it this morning.
While I packed my stuff, I thought hard of who to go to first. I had no friends, and the only place I could think of was my aunt Millie's place.
I'm not really a fan of her, but she's not a bad person. And I know she would be willing to have me in her place, she's just too boring and takes too much priority in making everything colorblind.
She stays in the next city, and I think it'll be a good idea to start afresh in another city. New job, new friends, and probably, a better vision.
I took the trash out, while all of my stuff was already packed into a bag. I already called Aunt Millie who was ecstatic to have me. Even if I really didn't want to go there, I have no option.
After dumping the trash bag into the garbage truck across Rhea's house, I made to cross the road when my phone rang in my pocket.
I stopped and pulled the phone out, my heart skipped when I saw it was Rhea calling. I didn't want to take the call at first, but I still wanted to hear what she had to say.
"Hello?"
"Caleb told me about the rubbish you went to his house to spill."
I swallowed hard, my heart felt pierced by her tone. "So?" I tried to sound bold, and it was good that it was just over the phone and not physically.
"What do you think you're trying to prove? Ending things with him--"
"Isn't that what you both wanted?" I interrupted. "I can't understand why you both are snapping over a decision I made, something you two want so bad," I said. "And don't worry, I'm leaving your house already."
"What? To where? Do you want to stay in the streets?"
"I'll sort myself out. The burden wants to get off you. Thank you for all you did for me, if there's a way to repay you, trust me, I would. But I know it's not the end yet, I'll come show my gratitude someday."
"Hey--"
I ended the call and blinked the tears that blocked my vision. I raised my arm, wiping my eyes with the sleeve of my shirt while crossing the empty street.
The blaring sound of car honking made me jump, I took my hand off my face and my eyes widened when I saw a car approaching me with so much speed.
Immediately, I reacted, jumping back without looking. My ass hit the ground hard, and my head bumped against the concrete floor.
Everything went black.
Another familiar beep sounds, and a strong stench of a hospital. I opened my eyes just at the same time the door opened. The doctor walked in and I tried to sit up but a pang of pain shot up from my abdomen.
I winced, moving back to my previous lying position.
"You should take it easy." The doctor said.
"What happened?" I whimpered, holding my aching head.
"You can't remember?"
"I fell against the paved road and hit my head, that's all I can remember."
"Your body is fine, but--."
I looked at him. "Do I have any internal injuries?" I asked in fear.
"No." He shook his head. "But you lost the baby."
"Wh--what baby?" My vision hazed. My brain was foggy.
"You don't know?" He asked but I kept staring at him speechlessly. I wouldn't ask if I knew what he was talk
ing about. "You were three weeks gone." He deadpanned.
"What?" I held my head and everything went black again.
ELENA. He tilted his head to me, giving me a knowing smile. Caleb snuck to my side, sliding his hand around my waist. "What are you doing here? You didn't tell me you were in town." Caleb muttered. ELENA. I stirred in my sleep while my phone rang loudly. I groaned, reaching out for the table where I usually kept my phone but it was just sheets and a soft bed. I tried to move while the ringing persisted, but something held me back. Or rather, someone. The hand felt bigger and heavier than Rhea's, and Rhea doesn't even like cuddles. Caleb? My eyes opened slowly and I took my environment in. Taking in the semi-dark room. It looked unfamiliar, and I tried moving again but the same hand held me in place. I turned sideways, but the face I saw wasn't Caleb's. The tattooed arm around my waist, pinning me in place, pulled all forgotten memories back. Rhea and Caleb on Caleb's bed, Rhea's words, Caleb's, walking under the torrential rain, waking up in the hospital, going back home, and deciding to go to the club to ease whatever heaviness was in my chest. And then this man. I might've been under the strong influence of alcohol, but I knew I had been all over him. Rubbing and touch
ELENA. I got home or rather, Rhea's house with the last notes I had on me. It was dark already. My clothes were still stuck on my body, obviously, I didn't wait for them to be properly dried before putting them on again, and I was shivering from the coldness of the clothes. The house was empty, and I felt relieved. I didn't know how I would face Rhea after what she said to me. I slipped out of my wet clothes and padded into the bathroom. I let the warm water run down my skin while my brain decided to play tricks on me by reliving those hurtful words that were said to me by my best friend. I snickered. They were right, I was a leech. And maybe if I didn't solely depend on the both of them, they would've done something better with their money rather than feed a jobless grown-ass woman. Rhea was generous, what I should be feeling right now is sole gratitude. Everything felt overwhelming, and what I was feeling couldn't be eased by just warm water running down my body. I needed some
ELENA. The vase shattered loudly and I saw Caleb freeze, his head snapped towards the door and our eyes met. "Shit." I heard him curse. He moved and I turned, knowing he was coming for me. What did he have to say? What other lie did he have in mind to let out?"Where are you going?" Rhea asked, but I didn't wait to listen to Caleb's response, my feet acted up, padding quickly until I got to the sitting room. I grabbed my purse and rushed to the front door. Just when I grabbed the doorknob, I got yanked back unexpectedly. I lost my footing and I fell on Caleb. His smell. It used to give me this calm feeling, the scent I was addicted to, a scent I slept with my nose sniffing every night. Each time I visit Caleb, I always go home with one of his shirts, for my personal purpose. And he had been comfortable with it, to show how much I loved him. But now, this... What I was perceiving made my stomach churn. His presence made me sick. "Baby, where are you going?" He was talking in a l
ELENA. "I had no idea I was being replaced already." My voice was low. "You're getting it all wrong baby, I already have an assigned plus one. And you're not even working yet, so you won't be accepted." Caleb, my fiance said. I was confused. Since when did they start assigning plus ones for people? He had an event he was invited to, but he didn't want me to be his plus one. "Why would another lady be your plus one when you have me?" "You're misunderstanding everything. If I had everything in my control, I'll take you there. But my boss already assigned someone to come with me, and I can't go against his orders."I was silent. Angry but quiet. My chest felt uncomfortable, yet I asked. "Who's this person then?" "It's Rhea." He replied. I froze. "Which Rhea?" I asked after a minute of deafening silence. "Your best friend." He replied. His voice sounded lazy, and I could almost imagine him rolling his eyes. "Oh." That was all I could say. I didn't know if to feel relieved or unc
