KRISTINE'S POV

Shock was definitely an understatement as my daughter's enthusiastic voice sunk into my ears.

It felt like my eyes were nearly popping out of their sockets when I saw them at my door. What the actual fuck? My heart slammed in my chest as I darted my eyes between them in utter confusion. And did I just hear Mia refer to Sebastian as Daddy? In front of Dave? How was that even possible? How was she calling him Daddy? How did she know he was her dad? Mia barely knew Sebastian—she had only met him once and that was during my brand launch. So how the hell was she calling him Daddy now? Had something happened between them that I wasn’t aware of?

My mind swirled with tumultuous thoughts and just for a moment, my surroundings faded to a blur. Until his voice pulled me.

"Hello, mi vida," Sebastian’s sultry, taunting voice broke through my thoughts, yanking me back to reality. I stiffened, my heart racing as I caught the tease in his tone.

He clearly didn’t care that I was w

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    050 ~ What it felt like

KRISTINE's POV "Get over here, mi vida."For some reason, I found those words extremely hot. Perhaps it was the way he had said them, with such a gravelly voice. Maybe, or maybe it was just something else entirely and I was being delusional.Nonetheless, I felt an irresistible urge to get up, as if I had been compelled by his command. Or maybe it could have just been because of my daughter, who was eagerly beckoning me to join them by the swing. Her genial grin was too adorable to ignore, and I certainly didn’t want to dampen her spirits by ignoring her invitation. Hence, I rose from where I sat and made my way towards them.As I approached them, I deliberately avoided his gaze, focusing on my daughter instead, who was now sprinting toward me."Mama!" She called out, leaping into my arms as I bent down to her level. My heart fluttered with delight. Stroking her hair fondly, I beamed at her. "Are you having a good time, sweetie?"She nodded vigorously, her enthusiasm contagious. "Yes,

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    049 ~ The perfect family

KRISTINE'S POVMy heart slammed in my chest as I watched them approach us. Just then, I caught Cassidy's comments."Their resemblance is remarkable. Unreal. Are you sure your genes even tried to claim her?" she asked, and I couldn't help but scoff at her ridiculous question, even though deep down I knew it was facts. Mia looked far too much like Sebastian, and it felt so unfair, especially since I was the one who had carried her for nine months, while he had... Done nothing. He missed her very first words and her initial steps. It was almost unbelievable to remember that Mia's first word had been "Daddy." I recalled the dismayed looks Amelia and I exchanged that day; I even tried to encourage Mia to call me instead. But she didn't. It took a while before she started referring to me as Mommy. I was heartbroken, but there was nothing I could do about it.Hooked back to the present by the familiar scent of his cologne, I realized he was already in front of me, holding Mia in his arms. S

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    048 ~ Silent treatment 2

KRISTINE's POV This day marked three days since my last conversation with Dave, where he had spoken to me in such a dull tone that made me question my decision to be with him.Three days since he returned any of my calls or texts, and nearly a week since he'd been ghosting me. I've experienced heartache and sleepless nights that caused me to toss and turn on my bed as I tried to understand where things went wrong.I felt so exhausted and regretted ever getting into a relationship with him in the first place. It hurt. This silent treatment from him was killing me. I feared losing him, knowing if it happened, I'd be forced to repeat past mistakes I so desperately wanted to avoid.Anyways, it was the weekend, a Saturday to be more precise. I had plans to spend time outdoors with Mia that day, considering she had been disturbing me all week that we should visit the park. I was sitting in the living room, waiting for her to finish her meal while I watched her closely. My gaze remained o

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    047 ~ His intentions

SEBASTIAN's POV"Goodbye, Sebastian," She drawled, her voice sounding like interesting music to my ears. My heart squeezed as I began to watch her walk away with our daughter in her arms. Although she ignored me, Mia continued waving at me genially until Kristine finally settled her into her car. I desperately hoped she would spare a fleet glance my way, at least for her to see that I was watching her. I had been watching her. But she didn't. Her face remained expressionless as she hopped onto the driver's seat and started the car ignition before driving out of the school gates. I felt a wave of heartbreak washed over me. However, I dispelled my thoughts. Why had I expected too much from her? Of course, she was still cold and indifferent towards me. I should even feel fortunate enough that she had spoken a word to me while we were with Mia. I had no right to expect too much from her, not after the way I left things last time. Yes, I was aware I already sent her flowers and apology

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    046 ~ His little girl

KRISTINE'S POV.I struggled to break away from his piercing gaze, my heart racing and my throat feeling parched suddenly. I momentarily lost track of everything until Amelia's voice snapped me back to reality."Kris, are you still with me?" It was then that I regained my focus, my gaze wavering as I finally managed to pull away from Sebastian's intense stare.Gosh, that was close. With my heart still pounding in my chest, I tried to steady my voice as I spoke to Amelia. "I'll call you back later, Amelia. I'm already at Mia's school to pick her up.""Since when do you end our calls just to pick up our daughter, Kristine? That's unusual."I swallowed hard, knowing she had seen through me, but I remained undeterred. "I’ll call you back later, okay? Goodbye for now," I replied. She was about to argue, but I quickly disconnected the call, my heart racing as I realized Amelia would be furious I had done that. Yet, I knew she wouldn’t back down until I took action myself.Sighing in frustra

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    045 ~ Silent treatment

KRISTINE'S POVThe moment the lunch break alarm sounded, I quickly wrapped up my tasks, shutting down my computer before rising to my feet. The conversation I had with Dave just a few minutes ago still lingered painfully in my heart, causing my chest to tighten with heartbreak, but I forced myself to set the feelings aside. Now wasn't the time for all that.Grabbing my bag from my desk, I made my way out of the office to pick up Mia from school. As I walked towards the elevator, my thoughts were still consumed by my interaction with Dave. No matter how hard I tried to push it away, the memories kept flooding back and I couldn't help it.I felt a wave of sadness wash over me, still grappling with his cold silence. It wasn't fair; I hadn’t done anything wrong. However, I refused to resort to begging or appearing desperate for his love. I had been down that path before, and it hadn't ended well. I'd never repeat that mistake again. Heaven forbid a lady like me becomes a simp because of a
