SEBASTIAN'S POV

My heart squeezed tightly as I absorbed my questions.

For a brief moment, I was rendered speechless as I processed the revelation my grandfather had just shared with me.

I was to enter into an arranged marriage with the Douglas family, specifically with their spoiled princess, Dahlia Douglas. This felt like a nightmare, not going to lie. I didn’t know Dahlia very well, but from the little I've heard, she's a no for me.

I had heard rumors of her before. There had been chatter among my colleagues some time ago when a scandal about Dahlia escalated, claiming she was romantically involved with two brothers at the same time. However, those rumors faded when she clarified publicly that they were merely business associates and not lovers. Some hadn't believed her claims, she had.

Although her affairs were not my problem, I realized, after my grandfather's announcement just now, that I could never go through with it. Dahlia had earned a reputation for being notorious,

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    082 ~ A Ploy with old allies

LYDIA's POV"Come on, Diego, let's get you freshened up first before we have dinner, hmm?" I called out to my toddler as we entered my apartment. We had just returned from my office after the day's work. It was already evening, past 6, to be exact.Diego was still clad in his school uniform, with a few buttons undone and his hair all tousled—he basically looked a bit scruffy since he had been playing in my office earlier after I picked him up from school.I genuinely felt grateful to see him lively; it was a welcome change from a few weeks prior when he had been lying on a hospital bed, looking frail and sick. His current energy was a stark contrast to that time. I guess I really do owe it to Sebastian for bringing back my healthy boy—he had been the one who paid for his surgery. I couldn't even express my gratitude enough, even if I wanted to."Coming, Mom!" he shouted back excitedly, kicking off his shoes before scampering across the room to join me. I tossed his backpack, which I h

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    081 ~ 'See you when I get back,'

My brows furrowed in a frown as my gaze trailed from pale Kristine to Mia. What was this about? I had witnessed the color drain from Kristine the moment Mia revealed something happened at her school the prior day, and now my curiosity was piqued. What happened? And why did it provoke that reaction from Kristine?"What happened, baby?" I asked Mia, my tone questioning yet tender. She was about to respond when Kristine cleared her throat noisily, interrupting her. "Okay, Mia, that's enough. Get inside and go wait for me in the bathroom."My frown deepened, and my gaze darted to Kristine. "Baby?" I arched my brows in demand. "What are you not telling me?"She made a nervous swallow despite her efforts to remain composed. She averted her gaze and shrugged. "I don't know what you're talking about."I huffed. "You do realize you're a terrible liar, don't you?" I urged, "Look at me."She didn't.Knowing Kristine wouldn't be the one to quell my curiosity, I returned my focus to Mia. I encoura

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    080 ~ Family moment

SEBASTIAN'S POVI arrived at Kristine's residence the following morning a few minutes after 8. I had informed her the previous night that I'd be leaving for Clasold City today, hence I needed to see them before I left.I suspected my daughter would still be in bed, but given that it was a Friday, I doubted that eventually. Kristine wouldn't allow it, as she needed to prepare her for school. So maybe they were both up already, I don't just know—just my thoughts.I alighted from the car, retrieving the big bouquet of flowers I had gotten for Kristine, as well as a basket of chocolates and sweets for Mia. I wanted to get her more, but I knew Kristine would complain. The ones I had were already more than enough for her; adding more to it would simply make Kristine go ballistic. And now wasn't really the time for me to make her mad. It could deny me a pleasant farewell from her.I pushed aside my thoughts.I was radiating with enthusiasm as I approached her porch. Even though I hated the f

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    079 ~ Precautions

I tucked Mia into the passenger's seat before rounding the car to settle behind the wheel. I spared her a glance, my heart fluttering with warmth at the sight of her eating her ice cream. She looked happy, completely unaware of her mother's inner turmoil.I expelled a deep breath, my gaze still lingering on her. I had been so worried earlier when I found out Dave had taken her. I couldn't let such a thing repeat itself. I needed to tell Mia the truth about the situation with Dave. I doubted she'd fully understand my plight, but I just had to try and convince her."Mia?""Yes, Mama," her tiny voice sailed into my ears as she turned to face me.Reaching forward to tuck strands of hair behind her ear, a small smile crossed my face. Yet, I felt skeptical inwardly. I didn't know how to even start; she looked so happy, and I knew it was because of her hangout with Dave. He was her favorite person after Sebastian, and now I was about to ruin their bond because of what had happened between us

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    078 ~ There was before him

KRISTINE'S POV"Found her yet?" Miss Wright's voice pulled me from my trance. I twisted my head to face her and nodded curtly."Yeah, she's with Dave."Her face was etched with a mix of relief and remorse. "Thank goodness, I was scared for a moment..." She paused, noticing I wasn't sharing the same feeling. My expression was deadpan, and I was lost in contemplation. But once again, she broke into my thoughts as she asked with concern, "I'm sorry, but should I alert someone? The school board? The cops? Or even Mia's father..."I flinched at her last suggestion. She must have noticed my reaction as she furrowed her brows in worry. "No," I said resolutely. "No, no need to alert anyone. I know where she is, and Dave won't harm her. I was just upset he'd taken her without my consent.""Are you sure?" she asked skeptically, and I nodded reassuringly."Yeah, I'll take care of it." A notification chimed on my phone, and I glanced to check—Dave had just sent me the address. They were at the p

  • HIS REGRET; Chasing back his rejected ex-wife    077 ~ 'Where is she?'

KRISTINE's POVThe piercing ring of my phone pulled me from my focus on the computer. My heart skipped a beat as I saw Miss Wright's name flashing on the screen.I pushed aside my documents on the desk as the door to my office swung open. I didn't have time to check who it was as I finalized the work I had been doing on the computer. Fuck, I didn't realize how much time had passed. I finally finished with the computer and logged out, glancing up at the lady who had just walked in."I'm heading out now to pick Mia up," I said to my assistant, who had just dropped by my office with a case file. She stared between me and the file in her hand with parted lips, and I reassured her immediately. "I'll check the paperwork once I return. Is that okay?"She nodded in understanding. "Sure, ma'am. I'll leave it here," she said, placing the file on my desk. I nodded at her affirmatively before rising to my feet. I was already late, and I knew Mia would be worried sick by now. It was twelve minute
