KRISTINE'S POV.

It had been two days since Dave's encounter with Sebastian. Also two days since he'd returned to Puwak City, yet I had barely gotten a hold of him. He hadn't bothered to visit me after his return. He only settled for texting and calling to check up on me at least once a day.

Now, I found that unusual, given this was the first time he was behaving this way towards me, especially since I was already accustomed to his usual special treatment whenever he returned from any business trip in the past.

Seated behind my desk at the office, my heart ached as I pondered my musings. I couldn't shake off the feeling that Dave might be avoiding me. It all started from the day he had informed me about his bad experience with Sebastian. Ever since then, there's been changes in the way he talked to me.

Even though he tried to mask his true feelings whenever we spoke on the phone, I couldn't help but notice the little changes. Like how I could sense he couldn't wait for our conversatio

I felt my breath catch in my throat, but I fought to maintain my composure. Even if what Dave said were true, I couldn't allow him to see my bewilderment and heartbreak.I fixed my gaze on him, even as my heart raced erratically in my chest. What did he mean when he said Sebastian was getting married to whoever the hell Dahlia was in two days? How credible was this? How did Dave even know? Had Sebastian lied to me? Was he really marrying someone else? Was that the reason he had left so abruptly? And what about the messages he sent me last night? He had professed his love for me and promised to make our relationship work. So what the fuck was this about, really?I shouldn't be getting paranoid, but I was. My insides twisted in turmoil over these conflicting thoughts. The worst part was that I had no answers to any of the questions flooding my mind.My expression tightened, but inside, I was crumbling. I couldn't even tell if this news was true, yet it was already having a profound imp

"Good morning, Kristine," Amelia greeted me as she entered the living room, where I was still gathering a few work files. I had been up since dawn, arranging these files I couldn't yesterday.I lifted my gaze from my workload and smiled at her, taking in her disheveled hair and sleepy face. "Good morning. How was your night?"She rubbed her eyes, a yawn escaping her lips. Covering her mouth as she yawned, her gaze drifted to the clock. "Shit, it’s 10 AM?""Yeah," I replied with a chuckle. "Good thing it’s Saturday. You should try to get some more rest if you’re still feeling exhausted.""No, thank you. I think I’ve had enough rest," she said, glancing between me and the scattered workload on the floor, her brows lifting with curiosity. "What are you working on?""Just finishing up some tasks I couldn’t complete yesterday at the office," I replied, returning my focus to the files I was sorting."Oh, alright then," she replied, turning toward the couch at the center of the living room.

~KRISTINE~I made my way to the airport that morning, with Mia occupying the passenger seat of my car. I was buzzing even as I drove, my heart swelling with elation. The same could be said for Mia, who was currently giggling in her seat, clapping her hands as she sang with enthusiasm."Aunt Amelia is back! Aunt Amelia is back!"A wide grin spread across my face, my hands steady on the steering wheel as I pressed down on the gas pedal. My excitement was palpable and the reason was obvious. Finally, Amelia had decided to return to us. She'd been away for quite some time—I had lost count of the weeks she's been away, anyhow, I was truly grateful that she was coming back just when I needed her most—when my life felt utterly chaotic. It wasn't just because of that, I missed her too. She's the only friend aside from Dave that I had in this City. And I could say my life had been a void without her presence. When she told me the news last night that she was coming back to Puwak City today, I

I arrived at Grandfather's residence a few minutes after 6 PM. My mission had been abruptly derailed earlier when Chris called, inviting me to S.M.K Industries to review the sales report I had requested initially. He felt something was amiss and wanted my input. He was right, but that issue had already been resolved. We had spent several hours questioning the staff responsible, trying to diagnose why some figures weren't matching. By the end of the day, everything was cleared up.I felt a wave of relief, but my emotions shifted as I walked toward Grandfather's slice of paradise. I felt plagued.I hadn't had the chance to check the Internet for confirmation of Lydia's news. Still, I preferred to discuss my fate with Grandfather. If Dahlia was truly returning to the city in two days, I was doomed—unless I could somehow persuade Grandfather to call off the wedding or postpone it while I resumed my pursuit of my ex-wife.When I finally reached the porch, I opened the door to the huge mans

Lydia's revelation shook me, but my expression gave nothing away. Inwardly, I was engulfed in disbelief and confusion. I couldn't fathom the information she had just disclosed. How had I been unaware of this? Was it even true? If Dahlia was really returning to the City in two days, shouldn’t I have been informed? As I wrestled with these thoughts, I huffed out a scoff, dismissing Lydia's news as absurd. There was no way I wouldn’t have found out by now. She claimed it was all over the news, but I couldn't bring myself to check the Internet; I didn’t want to give her any reason to believe that she had insight into my life."Let me guess," I started, breaking the heavy silence that hung between us. "Your source informed you about this as well?""I’m being serious, Sebastian. As I said before, I’m here to help," she insisted, but I brushed her off once more."You know, I've never encountered a woman so hell-bent on helping someone through marriage, especially when that someone is her ex?

I froze in my seat momentarily, my spine stiffening with a chill. I could hardly believe my eyes. My surroundings blurred as my focus zeroed in on the toddler scampering toward my corner, screeching with untamed enthusiasm."Daddy!" Diego exclaimed in elation, and I only jolted from my thoughts when he finally halted by my side, behind the mahogany desk. His small hand rested on mine, compelling me to turn my face to him.To say I was surprised to see him in my office this random afternoon would be an understatement. I couldn't comprehend it. But if he was here, that meant Lydia was nearby, possibly already walking through the entrance while I pondered my thoughts.Regardless, I pushed those concerns aside, focusing on the little boy standing before me. He looked nothing like me but resembled Lydia in every way—except for the wavy brown hair, which I now realized he must have inherited from his father's side. I felt a pang of guilt constrict my heart as I stared at him. "Daddy?" he
