ENZO
“I don’t want to go back with you, Enzo!” His green eyes blazed, wet with tears. His fists clenched at his sides. “You can’t make me go back with you!”
I stood there with the gun still in my hand. My gaze flicked past him to the girl tied to the chair and she glared at me with contempt.
There was something about her face that tugged at a memory I couldn’t grasp, like a shadow slipping through my fingers. It felt like I'd stumbled on her before now.
“Kai,” I called in a steady voice despite the heat simmering beneath me. I didn’t break eye contact with her as I tested that flicker of recognition. “Make sure she leaves this place safe. No detours.”
Kai nodded and turned his broad frame toward her.
I turned to Jaden. “Let’s go,” I said, holstering the gun. He hesitated and I gripped his arm, leading him out. His warmth burned under my fingers, alive with defiance, and it stoked the fire in my gut as we crossed the cracked pavement to the waiting car.
I pushed Jaden into the backseat of the idle black Sedan and slid in after him, the door thudding shut behind me.
The driver pulled away and I watched the warehouse shrink in the rearview.
Thick silence stretched between us, save for the sound of the tyres against the asphalt.
I’d found that damn letter days ago and immediately knew that something was going on.
'Pier 17, 1 a.m. I love you.'
I’d pieced it together, turning their little escape plan inside out. I even told my men to play along and let him think he had won.
What the hell did Jaden think was going to happen? Did he think I was that stupid?
He thought he’d drugged me and I’d be drooling on the bed while he ran to her. But I'd taken the antidote Kai brought immediately Jaden walked out. I had watched him sneak out before jumping into a car and going with my men.
Now, here he was, alive and breathing beside me, and I was livid. Not just at the betrayal—though that cut deep—but at how he’d been with her. Jaden, who dragged his feet around me, who dulled his eyes and slumped his shoulders like every touch was a chain, had lit up for her.
His voice had trembled with concern, his hands frantic as he freed her, his whole damn body alive in a way I’d never seen.
Jealousy clawed at me. It was a bitter, gnawing thing, twisting tighter every time I pictured them together. And that look she’d thrown me kept nagging at me. I knew her face, but from where?
It all made me mad. Why couldn't I get Jaden to be free with me? Despite how I'd showed him nothing but love, why did he despise me this much?
And how the fuck had he even met that Sophia girl in the first place?
I glanced at Jaden. He sat rigid, pressed against the door, staring out the window like I didn’t exist.
I shifted closer and lowered my voice. “Don’t be mad at me, Jade,” I whispered, letting a thread of softness slip in. “I didn’t want it to go like this.”
“Bug off,” he snapped, his head whipping toward me. “I hate you, Enzo. I fucking hate you.”
Pain bloomed in my chest, cracking through the armor I’d built. I’d seen him cry before. Hell, I’d made him cry, but this was different. This was pure rejection and it hurt more than I could ever admit.
I swallowed thickly and forced my voice to be steady. “I was mad, Jaden,” I said, softer now, leaning closer until I could smell the faint salt of his sweat. “I was mad seeing you like that all over her, so alive, so desperate when you’re supposed to be mine. We are engaged, you and me. Promised. And you looked at her like she’s your whole world.”
He didn’t respond. He just turned back to the window, giving me the cold shoulder.
I was about to lean back into the chair when I saw a tear sliding down his cheek, glinting in the passing streetlights. Another drop followed silently. My heart collapsed, a heavy aching sinking into my ribs.
I wanted to reach for him, to wipe those tears away like I had earlier, and tell him that I’d fix this, but I didn’t. I couldn’t. Not when he’d just carved me open with his words.
The car rolled to a stop and Jaden didn’t wait. He shoved the door open and bolted, disappearing into the house before I could blink.
I stepped out and paused as headlights flared behind me. Kai’s car pulled up with the other set of my men who followed us on the mission.
I beckoned Kai over. “Kai,” I said, glancing back at the house where Jaden had bolted into. “That girl. Look into her for me. Dig deep. She’s familiar, too damn familiar, and I need to know why.”
He nodded. “On it, boss.” His dark eyes flicked to the house, then back to me, but he didn’t ask questions.
Good. I didn’t have answers yet. I turned and walked inside, the door clicking shut behind me, sealing me in with the weight of Jaden’s hate and the ghost of that lady's face.
I paused on the stairs as I ran over the thought of going to him. With a sigh, I realized that I was tense. I needed to let go of the stress in my chest and shoulders before approaching him.
You're mine, Jade... Forever.
ENZORico did what?! I stalked across the warehouse floor, each step sharp and loud, my boots echoing off the cold, concrete floor. The air inside was thick, stagnant with smoke and tension. Fury pulsed through my veins, boiling just beneath the surface, begging to be unleashed. By the door, Kai stood with his arms crossed, his expression unreadable but grim. I didn’t have to look at him to feel the heat in his stare. He was waiting for the explosion. My men lined up along the far wall, their faces pale and stiff with anxiety. No one spoke. They knew better. I stopped in front of them, breathing hard, letting the silence drag until it suffocated.“A shipment got hit last night,” I said like it wasn't already news, in a kind of tone that made grown men sweat. “Ten kilos. Gone. Vanished like smoke. Now, Rico doesn’t get his hands on that kind of intel without help. Someone,” I paused, sweeping my gaze across their faces, “opened their goddamn mouth.”The silence that followed was loud
JADENI waited for the perfect night to make my move. Days had passed with me watching Enzo closely, memorizing his habits, his routines, and the way his brow creased when something wasn’t right. That evening, he came home later than usual, the set of his jaw tense, his eyes stormy with whatever dealings had soured his mood. I knew then that he wouldn’t stay long.At dinner, I pushed my food around my plate, feigning fatigue. “I’ve got a headache,” I murmured, rubbing my temples as though the dull throb was real, careful not to meet his eyes. “I think I’ll just lie down early.”He paused with the fork halfway to his mouth. His gaze softened instantly, concern settling over him like a shadow. “Are you okay, Jade?” he asked, setting his fork down and reaching for me, his palm warm against my forehead.I nodded slowly, curling into the comfort of his touch even as guilt coiled in my gut. “Yeah. Just tired. I’ll be fine after some rest.”He leaned in and kissed my cheek with deliberate t
JADENIt was the first day of college.I woke to the sound of my alarm cutting through the silence, the sky outside still painted in sleepy hues of gray and gold. My stomach churned with nerves as I forced myself out of bed. I moved like I was underwater, stumbling to the bathroom, and dragging on a hoodie and jeans when I got out moments later. Downstairs, the scent of coffee drifted from the kitchen. Enzo stood there, framed in the morning light, dressed sharp as ever in a dark shirt that hugged his frame. His eyes found mine the moment I entered, softening in that way that always caught me off guard. He set the mug down and crossed the room without a word, pulling me into his arms like he’d been waiting all morning just to feel me breathe.“There’s my college boy,” he murmured against my hair, his voice low and warm, threaded with something unspoken—pride, maybe, or fear. Maybe both.“Morning,” I whispered, burying my face against his chest. His hand cupped my cheek, tilting my
ENZO Fuck this. I crouched low behind a stack of rusted crates, the warehouse thick with the stench of oil, gunpowder, and damp concrete. Every breath I took felt heavy in my lungs, laced with adrenaline and anger. Beside me, Kai knelt in the shadows. The sodium lights overhead flickered, casting everything in a sickly amber glow that painted his face like a war mask. Three of my men were already in position, silent shadows fanned out along the perimeter like they were born to hunt in the dark. We’d been chasing this rival crew for weeks now, a bunch of arrogant little shits trying to muscle their way into my territory to steal from me. To challenge me. I knew that they had a connection with Rico, but I would have time for that bastard later on. They had no idea who they were playing with. But tonight, they’d find out. “Ready, boss?” Kai’s voice barely broke the silence. He was always calm before the chaos. I nodded. “Move on my signal.” My blood was hot beneath my skin b
JADENI woke up feeling like I’d been wrung out and left to dry. My eyes burned, swollen from all the crying the night before. Every part of me felt heavy like my emotions had settled into my bones. The morning light had already spilt into my room, draping everything in a soft golden hue. It should’ve felt comforting, but all I felt was the weight of the day waiting for me.As I blinked against the brightness, trying to stretch the sleep from my limbs, something caught my eye on the windowsill; a small, neatly folded piece of paper. My heart skipped a beat. It hadn’t been there when I went to bed. I sat up fast, a jolt of adrenaline surging through me as I reached for it with trembling fingers. The handwriting was sharp and rushed but unmistakably hers."Jaden,We’re running out of time. Convince Enzo to let you attend college. It’s our chance to meet, to plan. Make him say yes, Jade. I’ll find you there. We’re so close.—Sophia" I read it three times before the words fully sank in.
ENZOI jolted awake, the shrill blare of alarms tearing through the quiet like a knife. Beside me, Jaden stirred under the covers, his body still warm, but I was already halfway out of the bed, my instincts flaring like wildfire. Then came the sharp crash of glass downstairs, followed by shouts and gunfire. “Jaden, get up!” I snapped, grabbing his arm and yanking him upright. His eyes flew open, panic already rising in them. I was putting on a shirt as fast as I could, my hand darting for the gun on the nightstand.“What’s happening?” he asked, his voice trembling as he fumbled with his pants.“We’re under attack,” I said, forcing my voice to stay calm, even as my heart pounded like a war drum. “It’s Rico. It has to be that bastard. He’s coming for revenge after the party.”I grabbed Jaden’s wrist and dragged him toward the walk-in closet, not giving him a chance to ask more questions. “Stay close to me. Don’t let go.”I shoved aside a panel in the back of the closet, revealing the
JADENI was lounging on the couch, casually flipping through the pages of a worn book when Enzo walked into the room. He had an apron tied around his waist and a playful smile tugging at his lips.“Jade,” he called out, his voice light and teasing, “Come help me cook. I’m making dinner. Just the two of us.”I arched an eyebrow in surprise, setting the book aside and rising to my feet. “Do you cook?” I asked, genuinely curious as I followed him toward the kitchen.“Damn right I do,” he said with confidence, pulling me closer and planting a quick kiss on my cheek. “We’re making pasta from scratch. You’re gonna love it.”The moment we stepped into the kitchen, I was greeted by the rich aroma of garlic and herbs. A pot was already simmering on the stove, steam curling into the air. Enzo dumped a pile of flour onto the counter, sending a puff of white dust into the air.“Here,” he said, handing me a bowl filled with ingredients. “Mix this with the eggs.”I cracked the eggs in and stirred t
ENZOI woke up early. Jaden was still asleep beside me, his face soft in the morning light. I needed to get him out of the house today, away from the tension of my world. I slipped out of bed, called Kai to arrange the car, and got ready, pulling on a dark shirt and jeans. Jaden stirred as I sat back on the bed, kissing his cheek. “Wake up, Jade,” I whispered, nuzzling his neck. “We’re going to the city.”He blinked groggily and finally smiled when the sleep dissipated. “City?” His voice rasped, sleepy, and I nodded, pulling him up.“Yeah, just us. Let’s have some fun.” He stretched, yawning, and I watched with a smile, my chest tight with how much I wanted him happy today. We drove into the city, my men trailing in a car behind us like a shadow I couldn’t shake off. I knew how much Jaden didn't like being followed by my boys, and seeing that I was with him, it almost wasn't necessary, but with Jaden, I wasn't going to take any chances. Jaden didn’t even seem to notice. His eyes w
JADENI woke to soft kisses trailing my jaw, Enzo’s lips warm against my skin. I grunted softly, stirring, my body heavy with sleep. He deepened the kiss, his mouth claiming mine, his tongue slipping in slow and teasing. I groaned and kissed him back, our tongues playing tag in a lazy dance that sent heat curling through me.Within moments, I was rock hard. There was something about Enzo that always turned me into a horny rabbit.Enzo's hair was tied behind him, his blue eyes glinting warmly. His hand cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing my skin, and I melted into him. The morning haze made it all feel too good.He pulled back, his breath hot on my lips. “Morning, baby,” he murmured, his voice rough. “I need to head out for a meeting. Business stuff.”I blinked, still half-asleep, and propped up on my elbow. “Already?” My voice came out groggy, and I rubbed my eyes, trying to focus. “It’s still so early.”“Yeah, I know. The meeting can’t wait.” He kissed my forehead and lingered there
