ENZO
I shoved the door to my quarters open, the hinges creaking as I stepped inside. The air was heavy, stale with the scent of leather and cigar smoke that clung to everything I owned. I yanked my coat off and tossed it over the arm of a chair, then walked to the punching bag hanging in the corner.
My knuckles were itchy so I didn’t bother with gloves. I slammed my fist into the bag. The thud reverberated through the room, a dull echo of the chaos in my head.
Jaden’s eyes flashed in my mind, green, blazing, and spitting hate as he’d screamed, “I hate you, Enzo. I fucking hate you.”
I delivered another punch, harder this time and the bag swung back. Jaden's voice had been a blade slicing through me, and I hated how it lingered, how it hurt. I drove my fists in again, left, right, left, the rhythm pounding out the memory of his tears, his contempt, and the way he’d looked at her instead of me.
Sweat beaded on my forehead and dripped down my temples as I hammered the bag, my breaths coming sharp and ragged. He’d been mine—promised and bound by a deal he couldn’t escape—and yet he had decided to run.
He choose her!
I’d given him a roof, protection, my name, and he’d thrown it back in my face. My knuckles split and a thin smear of blood stained the bag. I stepped back, my chest heaving, the ache in my hands a faint shadow of the one in my ribs.
I stripped down and headed for the bathroom. The tub filled slowly, steam curling up as hot water stung the cuts on my hands. I sank in but the heat didn’t touch the cold knot inside me.
It was one thing to see those letters, and it was another witnessing Jaden glued to her like a tick. I scrubbed my skin raw, trying to wash off the anger, but it stuck to me.
When I climbed out moments later and toweled off, my mind was already drifting to Jaden.
His room was down the hall, and I didn’t knock. The door creaked as I pushed it open, the dim light from his lamp casting shadows over his curled-up form on the bed. He faced away, brown hair spilling across the pillow. His shoulders were hunched.
I crossed the room, running my gaze over his form, and sat on the edge of the mattress.
“Jade,” I murmured softly as I leaned in, brushing my lips against his neck. His skin was warm and tasted faintly of salt. I kissed him again slowly, gently, my hand sliding up his arm.
He didn’t move. Hell, he didn’t even speak, but I felt the shudder under my touch, and the faint hitch in his breath.
“Are you still mad at me?” I asked, tracing his shoulder, petting him like he was something fragile. There was no response. All I got was the quiet sound of his uneven breathing.
I shifted closer and pressed my chest to his back, my lips grazing his ear. “What’s going through that head of yours, huh? Talk to me.”
Silence again.
I tried again in a low voice, almost coaxing him. “You know I didn’t mean for tonight to go like that. I just… I couldn’t lose you.”
Still, I got nothing. My hand moved to his hair, threading through the soft strands as I kissed his jaw tenderly. “Jade, look at me,” I whispered, but he stayed still with his face buried in the pillow.
Then I heard a muffled sob and my fingers froze. I pulled back just enough to see tears streaking his cheeks and glistening in the low light. His eyes were squeezed shut.
My gut twisted. A sharp, hollow ache was imprinted on my chest. I sighed and dropped my hand.
“Alright,” I said in a voice that was barely above a whisper. “I’ll be patient. I’ll wait for you.” I stood immediately, the mattress creaking as I left him there.
Back in my room, the silence was too thick. I sank onto the bed. The sheets were cool against my skin, but my blood ran hot.
Jaden’s face swam behind my eyes: those tear-streaked cheeks, the way his lips had parted when I’d kissed him, even through his crying. My hand slid down past the waistband of my pants and I gripped myself, slow at first, as I imagined him. Not the hate, not the tears, but him.
I could remember the way he’d felt under me before, his mouth stretched around me, his eyes wide and locked on mine. I stroked harder, my breath catching as I pictured his body pressed to me, his resistance melting into want.
Heat built within me, coiling tight in my core, and I groaned against the image in my head.
I saw him as he could be. His head was thrown back, and my name was on his lips, not hers. That fucking bitch.
My hand moved faster, slick with sweat, and I pictured pinning him down, claiming him, his skin flushed and trembling under my touch. The memory of his taste flooded me—salt and submission—and it tipped me over.
My hips jerked, a growl tearing from my throat as I came. Warmth spilt over my fist, pulsing hard and fast. My chest heaved, the room spinning as I rode it out. Jaden’s image burned into me as curses filtered past my lips.
I lay there, panting, looking at the mess cooling on my skin. My eyes drifted to the ceiling.
He hated me. He had said it, and he probably meant it, but that didn’t change the truth. He was mine. Promised, bound, marked by my hands and my will. I’d seen the fire in him tonight and it only made me want him more.
“You’re mine, Jaden,” I swore to the empty room, my voice rough with conviction. “No matter how much you hate me, you’re mine.”
ENZORico did what?! I stalked across the warehouse floor, each step sharp and loud, my boots echoing off the cold, concrete floor. The air inside was thick, stagnant with smoke and tension. Fury pulsed through my veins, boiling just beneath the surface, begging to be unleashed. By the door, Kai stood with his arms crossed, his expression unreadable but grim. I didn’t have to look at him to feel the heat in his stare. He was waiting for the explosion. My men lined up along the far wall, their faces pale and stiff with anxiety. No one spoke. They knew better. I stopped in front of them, breathing hard, letting the silence drag until it suffocated.“A shipment got hit last night,” I said like it wasn't already news, in a kind of tone that made grown men sweat. “Ten kilos. Gone. Vanished like smoke. Now, Rico doesn’t get his hands on that kind of intel without help. Someone,” I paused, sweeping my gaze across their faces, “opened their goddamn mouth.”The silence that followed was loud
JADENI waited for the perfect night to make my move. Days had passed with me watching Enzo closely, memorizing his habits, his routines, and the way his brow creased when something wasn’t right. That evening, he came home later than usual, the set of his jaw tense, his eyes stormy with whatever dealings had soured his mood. I knew then that he wouldn’t stay long.At dinner, I pushed my food around my plate, feigning fatigue. “I’ve got a headache,” I murmured, rubbing my temples as though the dull throb was real, careful not to meet his eyes. “I think I’ll just lie down early.”He paused with the fork halfway to his mouth. His gaze softened instantly, concern settling over him like a shadow. “Are you okay, Jade?” he asked, setting his fork down and reaching for me, his palm warm against my forehead.I nodded slowly, curling into the comfort of his touch even as guilt coiled in my gut. “Yeah. Just tired. I’ll be fine after some rest.”He leaned in and kissed my cheek with deliberate t
JADENIt was the first day of college.I woke to the sound of my alarm cutting through the silence, the sky outside still painted in sleepy hues of gray and gold. My stomach churned with nerves as I forced myself out of bed. I moved like I was underwater, stumbling to the bathroom, and dragging on a hoodie and jeans when I got out moments later. Downstairs, the scent of coffee drifted from the kitchen. Enzo stood there, framed in the morning light, dressed sharp as ever in a dark shirt that hugged his frame. His eyes found mine the moment I entered, softening in that way that always caught me off guard. He set the mug down and crossed the room without a word, pulling me into his arms like he’d been waiting all morning just to feel me breathe.“There’s my college boy,” he murmured against my hair, his voice low and warm, threaded with something unspoken—pride, maybe, or fear. Maybe both.“Morning,” I whispered, burying my face against his chest. His hand cupped my cheek, tilting my
ENZO Fuck this. I crouched low behind a stack of rusted crates, the warehouse thick with the stench of oil, gunpowder, and damp concrete. Every breath I took felt heavy in my lungs, laced with adrenaline and anger. Beside me, Kai knelt in the shadows. The sodium lights overhead flickered, casting everything in a sickly amber glow that painted his face like a war mask. Three of my men were already in position, silent shadows fanned out along the perimeter like they were born to hunt in the dark. We’d been chasing this rival crew for weeks now, a bunch of arrogant little shits trying to muscle their way into my territory to steal from me. To challenge me. I knew that they had a connection with Rico, but I would have time for that bastard later on. They had no idea who they were playing with. But tonight, they’d find out. “Ready, boss?” Kai’s voice barely broke the silence. He was always calm before the chaos. I nodded. “Move on my signal.” My blood was hot beneath my skin b
JADENI woke up feeling like I’d been wrung out and left to dry. My eyes burned, swollen from all the crying the night before. Every part of me felt heavy like my emotions had settled into my bones. The morning light had already spilt into my room, draping everything in a soft golden hue. It should’ve felt comforting, but all I felt was the weight of the day waiting for me.As I blinked against the brightness, trying to stretch the sleep from my limbs, something caught my eye on the windowsill; a small, neatly folded piece of paper. My heart skipped a beat. It hadn’t been there when I went to bed. I sat up fast, a jolt of adrenaline surging through me as I reached for it with trembling fingers. The handwriting was sharp and rushed but unmistakably hers."Jaden,We’re running out of time. Convince Enzo to let you attend college. It’s our chance to meet, to plan. Make him say yes, Jade. I’ll find you there. We’re so close.—Sophia" I read it three times before the words fully sank in.
ENZOI jolted awake, the shrill blare of alarms tearing through the quiet like a knife. Beside me, Jaden stirred under the covers, his body still warm, but I was already halfway out of the bed, my instincts flaring like wildfire. Then came the sharp crash of glass downstairs, followed by shouts and gunfire. “Jaden, get up!” I snapped, grabbing his arm and yanking him upright. His eyes flew open, panic already rising in them. I was putting on a shirt as fast as I could, my hand darting for the gun on the nightstand.“What’s happening?” he asked, his voice trembling as he fumbled with his pants.“We’re under attack,” I said, forcing my voice to stay calm, even as my heart pounded like a war drum. “It’s Rico. It has to be that bastard. He’s coming for revenge after the party.”I grabbed Jaden’s wrist and dragged him toward the walk-in closet, not giving him a chance to ask more questions. “Stay close to me. Don’t let go.”I shoved aside a panel in the back of the closet, revealing the
JADENI was lounging on the couch, casually flipping through the pages of a worn book when Enzo walked into the room. He had an apron tied around his waist and a playful smile tugging at his lips.“Jade,” he called out, his voice light and teasing, “Come help me cook. I’m making dinner. Just the two of us.”I arched an eyebrow in surprise, setting the book aside and rising to my feet. “Do you cook?” I asked, genuinely curious as I followed him toward the kitchen.“Damn right I do,” he said with confidence, pulling me closer and planting a quick kiss on my cheek. “We’re making pasta from scratch. You’re gonna love it.”The moment we stepped into the kitchen, I was greeted by the rich aroma of garlic and herbs. A pot was already simmering on the stove, steam curling into the air. Enzo dumped a pile of flour onto the counter, sending a puff of white dust into the air.“Here,” he said, handing me a bowl filled with ingredients. “Mix this with the eggs.”I cracked the eggs in and stirred t
ENZOI woke up early. Jaden was still asleep beside me, his face soft in the morning light. I needed to get him out of the house today, away from the tension of my world. I slipped out of bed, called Kai to arrange the car, and got ready, pulling on a dark shirt and jeans. Jaden stirred as I sat back on the bed, kissing his cheek. “Wake up, Jade,” I whispered, nuzzling his neck. “We’re going to the city.”He blinked groggily and finally smiled when the sleep dissipated. “City?” His voice rasped, sleepy, and I nodded, pulling him up.“Yeah, just us. Let’s have some fun.” He stretched, yawning, and I watched with a smile, my chest tight with how much I wanted him happy today. We drove into the city, my men trailing in a car behind us like a shadow I couldn’t shake off. I knew how much Jaden didn't like being followed by my boys, and seeing that I was with him, it almost wasn't necessary, but with Jaden, I wasn't going to take any chances. Jaden didn’t even seem to notice. His eyes w
JADENI woke to soft kisses trailing my jaw, Enzo’s lips warm against my skin. I grunted softly, stirring, my body heavy with sleep. He deepened the kiss, his mouth claiming mine, his tongue slipping in slow and teasing. I groaned and kissed him back, our tongues playing tag in a lazy dance that sent heat curling through me.Within moments, I was rock hard. There was something about Enzo that always turned me into a horny rabbit.Enzo's hair was tied behind him, his blue eyes glinting warmly. His hand cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing my skin, and I melted into him. The morning haze made it all feel too good.He pulled back, his breath hot on my lips. “Morning, baby,” he murmured, his voice rough. “I need to head out for a meeting. Business stuff.”I blinked, still half-asleep, and propped up on my elbow. “Already?” My voice came out groggy, and I rubbed my eyes, trying to focus. “It’s still so early.”“Yeah, I know. The meeting can’t wait.” He kissed my forehead and lingered there
