Chapter 5: But then the storm came

Hailstorm’s POV

The door closed behind me and when I looked up, my friends were both staring at me. How was I going to tell them these assholes weren’t going to let us go? I couldn’t do that to them.

“Can we go?” Lacy asked, her eyes full of hope. Hope I was about to crush.

I shook my head, my eyes filling with tears.

“O Killer, it… it is okay” Lacy said, sliding off of the bed and walking towards me. She put her arm around me, guiding me to the bed where Hayley was sitting, she herself giving me a light smile.

“These guys are nuts” she grumbled, falling back on the bed and looking at the ceiling.

Hey my baby girl

I really hope your tummy bug has passed by now, I attached some recipes you can use to help you get over it. Also, think it’ll be a good idea to go see the doctor, don’t want my baby girl to lose school work because of this. Send regards to your friends and tell them I am on the lookout for a sweet boy for you. But you know Frenchman and no offence honey, but language aren’t your strong suit.

I’m eating all the croissants I can get my hands on and miss you so, so, so much. Miranda is here now and sends her regards to her baby sister. She’s basically just shopping the whole time and I worry about her finances. But all in good faith.

Love you baby girl

Hailstorm’s POV

The rest of the day we basically spent together. At one stage, the boys came around giving us some food and threw us our bags (so the assholes had went into Lacy’s house) and we got to change and shower.

“This sucks” Lacy said as she came into the room, drying her hair with the towel. She was dressed in her pyjamas, her blonde hair making little droplets on the white tank top she had on, “I am flipping bored!”

“Where are these guys even? Like honestly? I swear we’ve been stuck in here and they aren’t even home” she continued.

I sat up at that, my mind spinning. We can leave…

“Come on” I said, getting off of the bed. Without hesitation Lacy threw the towel down, rushing towards me. Kira got off of the floor, following behind Lacy. I slowly opened the door, peering at the corridor.

Empty…

“Come on” I whispered, tip toeing out of the room with Lacy behind me and Kira to follow. We headed down the corridor, Lacy later on taking the lead. We made it down the stairs and to the front door but just our luck, the thing was locked.

“This way” Kira whispered, pointing to an entrance into another room. We headed in there, it being a huge sitting room. Dark wooded and with couches, a television about the size of Lacy’s and a huge fire place. Again, the walls were filled with portraits of random people and scripts I wasn’t able to translate. On the ground were soft carpets, they ruby red and woven into beautiful patterns.

“Whoa” I sighed, looking around the place.

“Damn…” Lacy whispered, “These people are rich” she said, her eyes moving to the grand piano in the corner of the room. In the other corner was a bar, the wall behind it filled with liquor, “At least you guys won’t have to worry about money?” she said, looking over at me.

“O shut up” I whispered, moving further into the room. I headed to the curtains, hoping that behind one would be a door. The second one I opened, made me smile. I tried the door, it luckily sliding open.

“Let’s get out of here” I said, turning to my friends. They nodded, all of us moving outside… and onto a balcony.

For fudge sakes. I moved to the edge, looking down and sucked in my breath. The area was as big as two fields (maybe even three) with wooden obstacles everywhere, climbing walls, swinging logs, what have you. I swear there was even a spot of swords. Shit…

Beyond the obstacle grounds was the woods that had gotten us captured. Acres upon acres of trees went through the landscape making me doubt our escape a bit.

“See you guys tried to escape again” I heard a manly voice. My eyes widened and I spun around, seeing Liam standing by the door with his arms folded. Next to him, Chris stood – looking a lot less angry than his friend.

“We were just looking at the view…” I tried, feeling my nose twitching.

“You know – when you lie you do this thing with your nose” Liam stated, “It makes you look like a rabbit”

“Shut up” I grumbled, looking over at my friends.

“Go back to the room”

“We’re bored there” Lacy spoke up, folding her arms.

“We were just looking for something to do” Kira said, putting a strand of hair behind her ear. Chris turned towards her, the smirk becoming wider, “What do you want to do then?”

“Um… can, can we…”

“Television, see the view. I don’t know – not die of boredom?” I tried, glaring at Liam.

“You can’t die of boredom” Liam said, annoying me even more, “But fine, you guys can hang out in the living room? There’s books and junk there” he said.

He opened the door wider, “Move”

Kira was the first to move, heading inside and followed by Lacy. Just as I was about to move, Liam came to stand in front of the door.

“Look, before you give me a speech-“

“How’s the baby doing?” he asked, catching me by surprise.

“Think okay? I don’t really know…” I mumbled, once again putting my hand on my stomach.

“Haven’t you gone to a doctor or something?”

“My appointment was supposed to be Tuesday” I said.

“I’ll take you then”

I gaped at him, my eyes widening, “What?”

“This is my baby too – well, according to you – so I want it to be safe”

I nodded, still a bit shocked.

“What time?” he asked.

“Eleven, after Killer’s test” I said, trying to get him to allow Kira to go write her exam as well.

“Okay great, I’ll take you”

Nope, no budging. Asshole…

He went inside, me following him. My friends were already sitting on the couch, the television on “Before you go”, Kira’s favourite film.

“Look what’s on!” she grinned as she turned to me.

I smiled at her, going to go sit next to her.

“Well, I’m going to go get some dinner, Chris will you stay with them?” Liam asked. The blonde boy nodded, going to sit on the seat in the corner.

That evening we got to eat some spaghetti (which had clearly been made by a boy) and then we were sent back to the rooms. All of us got separate rooms, Kira moving to a completely new one. I was just glad we were all still in the same hallway but felt like I needed my friends more than anything that evening. Yet, when I had tried to sneak out I was caught with a locked door. Which only pissed me off even more. I think I slept two hours that evening and when the light filtered in through the curtains I was greeted with an upset stomach.

“Hayley, where are you? We have to go” I heard him before I saw him. Well, obviously… I was staring down the contents of my stomach. I caught him in the corner of my eye, his eyes widening when he saw me.

“Are you okay?” he asked and I felt his hands holding up my hair.

“Morning sickness” I grumbled, unloading once again.

“O”

Useless, this man was completely useless.

Mason’s POV

“Liam says he’s preoccupied so we’re just going to show the two girls” Chris said, walking towards us. My hands were once again clasped onto the blonde’s wrist, my other one on Killer.

“Where’s Hayley?” Killer asked, looking around.

“She’s fine” I answered, “Liam went to get her, so she’s probably with him”

“We don’t trust Baby daddy” the annoying one snapped, glaring at me.

“Too bad, come on. Time to go meet everyone”

“We’re not going without Hailstorm”

“Yes you are, now – Christopher is going to get everyone so long while YOU try and behave” I said, staring straight at the blonde one.

“No promises”

“Please try and behave?” I groaned.

“Can we just get some reassurance that Hayley is okay?” Killer asked, looking over at Chris.

He sighed, “I’ll go get the group so long, and will you take the girls to check up on Hayley?” Chris nodded, heading down the corridor.

“Come on” I sighed, walking to Hayley’s room. I opened it, letting the two girls peer into the room. It smelt like vomit, the smell too toxic for my sensitive nose.

“Hayley!”

“I’m fine!” it came out muffled and a moment later, Liam appeared. He was ashen white and looked as if he was about to puke as well.

“It’s just morning sickness” he said, reassuring the girls, “I’m with her. Now – please go with Mason”

The blonde one hesitated for a second but then she slowly nodded, “If anything happens to her – I will destroy your whole supposed army”

“Have no doubt you will” Liam sighed, and a moment later I heard Hayley call his name. Yip, the girl actually called his name.

Killer’s POV

Once we were outside, my eyes widened at the mass of people in the field. There were at least a hundred, all of them training hard and looked as if they’d use Lacy and I as toothpicks. Mason whistled and almost immediately all the attention turned to us. I took a step towards my friend, sucking in a breath as everyone came towards us, creating a half circle. Chris was standing in the front, grinning at me.

I really did not trust that guy. Not at all. When everyone was standing, their gazes making me feel too uncomfortable for the moment, Mason spoke up.

“Right so, Liam apologises for not being here but he has other matters to deal with” Mason said, his voice echoing, “So I’ll be leading this meeting”

Some of the men nodded, others folding their arms.

“We got you guys’ nurses” Mason said and gestured to us, we looking upon the mass of muscle and un-nurse-ness.

“We don’t need nurses!” Chris yelled, some of the people snickering. I felt my cheeks going red and I looked down on the ground. That was, until I saw Lacy moving. She walked towards Lacy and as I starred with wide eyes, she retracted her arm and gave a full blow fist on the guy’s nose.

I guess she wanted to say: you do need a nurse but instead all that came out was, “You do ne-“before she clutched her seemingly very bruised – probably broken – hand, “I need a nurse” she whimpered and walked back to me, her chin wobbling slightly. Chris starred at her wide eyes before a smirk appeared on his face. Lacy came to stand next to me and I lightly took her hand, inspecting it.

“So um” Mason coughed, the moment clearly awkward to him, “It’s just for precaution. Chris, let the girl take a look at your um… nose”

“The one with the broken hand or the one who looks as if she’s about to wet her pants?” my cheeks once again flooded with heat and I tried not to collapse with embarrassment. At the moment I was more concerned over my friend’s hand and stressed out. And it didn’t help that Chris was mocking me.

“The pants-wetter” Mason coughed, giving Lacy a quick glance before trudging off, calling behind him that everyone should get back to practicing. The crowd slowly fazed out and I saw Chris approaching me.

“So, Killer – care to take a look?” he grinned, his cheekiness making me frown.

I nodded and watched as Mason bent down, his eyes locking with mine.

“It… it seems fine”

“Too small for your face though” Lacy grumbled, unhappy about her hand.

Chris chuckled, “Listen here love, you do know nurses don’t cause the injuries right?” he smiled, “Or you know, get themselves injured?”

Lacy glared at him, ready to say something but then Chris got called by some person by the fighting area.

“See you girls! We need to get you guys’ uniforms!” he called and ran off.

“Jerk” Lacy said, folding her arms.

“Is your hand okay?”

“Fine, just need some ice”

“Come on” I smiled, heading to the small room Mason had said would be where our stuff was. Everything looked brand new and the place was filled with dust.

“Jeez, do you think these people ever get hurt?” Lacy said as I got an ice bag out of the freezer.

“Well if you’re going to keep hitting people?” I joked, handing it to her.

“He pissed me off” she shrugged, “They all do”

A knock sounded at the door and Liam appeared with Hayley.

“Hailstorm!” Lacy said, rushing towards our friend, the ice still on her hand, “How are you feeling?”

“Good, Liam said we can go get breakfast. What happened to your hand?”

“I punched Chris”

“You what!?” Liam gaped.

“I punched your friend” she shrugged, “Let’s go get food. I’m starving”

She moved past Liam, the guy rolling his eyes.

Hayley followed behind her and then Liam but just as I was about to leave, Chris appeared.

“Can I help you?” I asked as he came in, my heart immediately speeding for no reason at all.

“Yeah, can you check my nose again? It’s hurting a bit”

I nodded, gesturing for him to come in. He immediately settled himself on the freezer, starring down at me with the same smirk.

“So, how does it look doc?” he smiled, leaning down.

“It seems fine but I can give you some ice?” I said. Chris nodded, jumping off of the freezer… and right in front of me.

“You sure it looks fine love?” he smirked, looking into my eyes.

Damn, why was this guy making me feel so flustered?

“Yeah” it came out squeaky and when his hands landed up on my hips, I sucked in a breath.

“What’s your name?” he whispered, moving his body closer to mine.

“Ki-Kira”

“That’s a pretty name” He leaned down and I could feel my lips parting. And just as we were about to connect, my senses came back. I ducked under him, getting the ice out of the freezer and throwing it at him, “There”

Before he could say anything, I was out of there, rushing up the stairs and to the head house – trying not to start crying.
