Chloe was the one who suggested it.

She came home from her shift around three, dropped her bag by the door, and announced that the weather was too nice to waste inside. “Park. All of us. I already checked and Dad’s free. No arguments.”

Elias looked up from his laptop at the kitchen island. “All of us?”

“Yes. You, me, Riley. Fresh air. Walking. Maybe ice cream after if you’re both good.” She pointed at me. “You’re coming. You’ve been moping around this house like a Victorian ghost.”

I almost said no. The idea of the three of us out in public, acting like a normal unit, felt strange after everything that had happened inside these walls. But Chloe was already grabbing her keys, and Elias closed his laptop without arguing. Twenty minutes later we were in his car, Chloe in the front passenger seat, me in the back, the windows cracked to let the late afternoon air in.

The park wasn’t crowded. A few families near the playground, joggers on the path, someone throwing a tennis ball for a dog in the open field. We found a stretch of grass under a cluster of trees and claimed it. Chloe stretched out on her back immediately, sunglasses on, scrolling her phone. Elias sat with one knee up, forearm resting on it, looking out across the field like he was cataloguing the space. I sat a little apart from both of them, plucking at the grass.

For a while it was almost easy.

Chloe talked about work, about a coworker who’d gotten into a fight with a customer over a wrong order. Elias listened, occasionally adding a dry comment that made her laugh. I contributed enough to not seem checked out. The sun was warm without being aggressive. A breeze moved through the leaves overhead. If someone had taken a picture, we might have looked like any other group of people killing time on a nice day.

I caught Elias watching me once when Chloe was mid-story. Not long. Just a glance, unreadable, before he looked away again. I focused on the dog in the distance instead.

After a while Chloe sat up and declared she was going to the restrooms and then to check if the ice cream cart near the entrance was still open. She pointed at both of us. “Don’t move. I’ll be back.”

We watched her cut across the grass toward the path.

The silence she left behind felt different. Heavier.

Elias didn’t say anything at first. He just kept looking out at the field. I picked at a blade of grass until it split.

“You didn’t have to come,” I said eventually.

“Chloe wanted all of us.” He paused. “And I wanted to see you outside the house.”

I glanced at him. “Why?”

“Because everything between us has happened inside those walls. I was curious what it would feel like out here.”

“And?”

He considered the question. “Strange. Normal. Both.”

I didn’t have a good answer for that, so I let it sit. A couple walked past with a stroller. Somewhere behind us a kid screeched with laughter on the playground. Ordinary sounds. Ordinary afternoon.

Chloe was taking a while.

Elias shifted, resting his weight back on his hands. “How are you? After the call with your mom.”

“Better. Still weird. But better.”

He nodded once. Didn’t push.

We lapsed into quiet again. It wasn’t uncomfortable exactly, but it wasn’t easy either. Too much history compressed into too small a space, even out here under open sky.

I was about to ask how long he thought Chloe would be when I saw him.

At first it was just a shape on the path — tall, familiar posture, the way he walked with his hands in his pockets like he had nowhere particular to be. Then he turned his head and the recognition hit like a cold drop down my spine.

My ex.

Jake.

He was with someone. A girl I didn’t know, laughing at something he’d said, her arm looped through his. They were heading in our general direction, not looking at us yet.

I must have made a sound, because Elias’s attention snapped to me.

“What?”

I didn’t answer. Jake’s eyes landed on our little group a second later. He slowed. The girl kept talking for a moment before noticing he’d stopped. Jake’s expression moved through surprise, then something more complicated, then settled on a careful half-smile.

He raised a hand in a vague greeting.

I stayed frozen.

Elias followed my line of sight. His posture changed — subtle, but I felt it. Straighter. More alert.

Jake said something to the girl, then started walking toward us. She hesitated, then followed.

Chloe chose that exact moment to reappear from the other direction, ice cream in hand, grinning like she’d won something.

She saw Jake when she was about ten feet away. Her steps faltered.

“Oh,” she said. “Shit.”

Jake stopped a few paces from our spot on the grass. His eyes moved from me to Elias to Chloe and back to me.

“Riley,” he said. “Hey.”

The girl beside him looked between all of us, confused but polite.

I swallowed. My voice came out thinner than I wanted. “Hey.”

Jake’s gaze flicked to Elias again, lingering a second too long, like he was trying to place him. Then back to me.

“Didn’t expect to run into you here.”

Chloe recovered enough to step closer, positioning herself slightly between us without making it obvious. “Small world.”

Jake nodded at her, then at Elias. “I don’t think we’ve met.”

Elias stood. It wasn’t aggressive, but it changed the air. He was taller than Jake by a couple of inches, and the way he held himself made the difference feel larger.

“Elias,” he said simply. He didn’t offer a hand.

Jake’s smile tightened a fraction. “Jake. Riley’s—” He stopped himself, glanced at me, then adjusted. “We used to… know each other.”

The girl beside him shifted her weight. Jake didn’t introduce her.

Chloe jumped in, too bright. “We were just about to head out, actually. Ice cream’s already starting to melt.”

Jake looked at me again. There was something in his expression I couldn’t read — curiosity, maybe. Or the residue of old history that hadn’t fully settled.

“You look good,” he said.

I didn’t know what to do with that. “Thanks.”

Elias’s hand settled lightly against the small of my back. Not obvious. Not dramatic. Just there. Possessive in a way that would only register if you were already looking for it.

Jake noticed.

His eyes dropped to where Elias’s hand rested, then came back up. Something sharper moved through his expression before he smoothed it over.

“Well,” he said. “Good seeing you.”

“Yeah,” I managed. “You too.”

He nodded once more, then steered the girl away with a light touch on her arm. They continued down the path. I watched them until they disappeared around a bend.

Chloe let out a long breath. “That was awkward as hell.”

Elias’s hand was still on my back. He hadn’t moved it.

“You okay?” he asked quietly.

I nodded, even though I wasn’t sure it was true.

Chloe held out the ice cream like a peace offering. “It’s melted. But the walk back to the car is short.”

We gathered our things in silence. The sun was lower now, casting longer shadows across the grass. As we started toward the parking lot, Elias’s hand slipped away from my back, but he stayed close enough that his shoulder almost brushed mine.

I didn’t look back toward the path.

But I could still feel the weight of Jake’s eyes, and the quiet, deliberate way Elias had claimed the space beside me without saying a word.

  • Harder, Daddy   CHAPTER 0037- Still here

I woke before him.Gray light was leaking around the curtains. His arm was still heavy across my waist, his breath steady against the back of my neck. For a few minutes I just lay there, cataloguing the aches — the dull soreness between my thighs, the faint bruise-tenderness on my wrists where he’d pinned them, the leftover heat in my face from everything I’d admitted the night before.I’d told him.And he was still here. That fact sat in my chest in a complicated way. Not relief exactly. Not safety either. Something closer to the feeling of standing on a ledge and realizing the drop hadn’t taken me after all.He stirred behind me. His hand flexed once on my stomach, then slid up to rest between my breasts.“You’re awake,” he said, voice rough with sleep.“Yeah.”“How long.”“A few minutes.”He made a low sound and pulled me more firmly against him. I felt him hardening slowly against the curve of my ass. Neither of us moved for a while. The quiet felt different from the night before

  • Harder, Daddy   CHAPTER 0036- Thursday night

Elias’s flight landed at 8:40.I knew because I tracked it. I knew because I’d spent the entire day cleaning an already clean house, changing sheets that didn’t need changing, and rehearsing versions of the truth that all sounded equally bad. By the time the garage door rumbled open at 9:15, my hands were cold and my pulse was doing something uneven in my throat. He walked in with his bag over one shoulder and the tired posture of a man who’d spent two days in meetings. He set the bag down, loosened his tie, and looked at me standing in the kitchen like he’d been counting the hours too.“Hey,” he said.“Hey.”He crossed the space, cupped the back of my neck, and kissed me. Slow. Thorough. The kind of kiss that felt like checking for changes. When he pulled back his eyes searched my face.“You okay?”“Yeah.”He didn’t look convinced. He poured himself a glass of water, drank half of it, and leaned against the counter.“House smells like lemon,” he said.“I cleaned.”“Thoroughly.”I nod

  • Harder, Daddy   CHAPTER 0035- Old and New

Elias left early for a two-day work trip.He told me the night before, voice even, eyes steady on mine while he packed a small bag. “I’ll be back Thursday night. Don’t do anything you’ll have to confess when I walk through the door.”I nodded. He kissed me hard enough to leave my mouth tingling, then left. The house felt too quiet after the garage door closed.By noon the quiet had turned into restlessness. I told myself I was just bored. That the ache he’d left between my legs the day before was the only reason my skin felt too tight. I lasted until one-thirty before I picked up my phone.Jake answered on the second ring.“Didn’t think I’d hear from you,” he said.“Are you free?”A pause. “When?”“Now. And… I might not be alone.”Another pause, longer. Then a low, interested sound. “Text me the address again.”I did. Then I opened the conversation with Jenna.**Riley:** Are you working today?**Jenna:** Off at two. Why?**Riley:** Come over after. Someone else will be here too.She d

  • Harder, Daddy   CHAPTER 0034- Prove it

We stayed in bed most of the morning. Not talking much. Not sleeping either. His hand rested on the curve of my hip under the sheet, thumb moving in slow, idle strokes like he was reminding himself I was still there. Every so often I’d feel his eyes on me. When I looked back he didn’t look away.Around eleven he finally spoke.“Get up. Shower. Then come back here.”I did what he said. The shower was quick. I didn’t bother with clothes after. When I walked back into the bedroom he was sitting up against the headboard, sheet pooled around his waist, watching me with that same unreadable focus from earlier.“Come here.”I climbed onto the bed. He caught my wrist before I could settle beside him and pulled me forward until I was straddling his thighs again. His hands slid up my sides, slow, mapping skin he already knew by heart.“Last night I made you wait,” he said. “This morning I made you ask. Now you’re going to show me you meant it.”My pulse kicked. “How?”“You’re going to ride me u

  • Harder, Daddy   CHAPTER 0034- On your knees

Morning came slow and gray.I hadn’t really slept. The light in the guest room had stayed on all night like a punishment that didn’t need raising its voice. My body felt heavy. My mouth tasted like I’d been clenching my jaw for hours. Somewhere down the hall I heard movement — a drawer, the soft sound of feet on hardwood — then nothing.I got up.I didn’t put on clothes. He’d seen me naked the night before when he sent me up here. Clothes felt like armor I hadn’t earned. I walked down the hallway on bare feet and stopped outside his bedroom. The door was half open. I pushed it the rest of the way.Elias was sitting on the edge of the bed in dark sweatpants, no shirt, elbows on his knees. He looked up when I entered. His expression didn’t soften. It didn’t harden either. He just watched me like he’d been waiting for this exact moment and had already decided how it would go.I closed the door behind me.For a second neither of us spoke. The air between us felt thick enough to choke on.

  • Harder, Daddy   CHAPTER 0032- Six O'clock

The house felt different after he left.Bigger. Quieter. Like the walls were listening.I stayed in his bedroom for a long time, sitting on the edge of the bed in my underwear, replaying the look on his face when I said Jenna’s name. Not explosive anger. Something colder. More deliberate. The kind of anger that planned.Eventually I forced myself up. Showered. The hot water did nothing to loosen the knot in my chest. I stood under the spray until my skin turned pink, then got out and stared at myself in the mirror. Same face. Same body. Everything underneath rearranged.I spent the day moving through the house like a guest. Made coffee I didn’t drink. Tried to watch something and failed. Checked the clock every twenty minutes. Chloe texted around noon asking if I wanted to meet her after her shift. I told her I wasn’t feeling well. She sent a sad-face emoji and said she’d bring soup tomorrow. The hours crawled.By four I was restless in a way that felt physical. I cleaned the kitchen
