ELIJAH’S POV

I stared at Laura across the bar, my jaw tightening as the air between us stretched thin.

The strange lady was still beside me, practically glued to my side like some desperate leech. Her perfume was too sweet, her lips too red, her intentions obvious. They seemed to know each other, the way Laura's eyes glared at her.

But my eyes were on Laura.

My wife.

She stood at the entrance, her hair messy from the hospital, her eyes glassy from crying, but damn it, she was still the most beautiful thing in the room.

And she was still wearing my ring, after everything I made her go through.

“Elijah,” she whispered again, her voice low but trembling. “You're with Irene?”

Irene shifted beside me, fingers brushing my sleeve. “Ignore her,” she whispered, lips too close to my ear. “Let her cry to John Deere. That’s what she does best.”

I frowned.

How did she know about that?

I turned slightly, studying Irene.

“I don’t remember giving you permission to talk about my wife.”

Her face paled

The Girl Who Shouldn’t ExistIVY’S POVThe coffee shop was quiet, tucked away in the far corner of town where secrets liked to breathe. She was already there when I arrived—sitting in the booth by the window, twirling a silver spoon between delicate fingers. Her face lit up when she saw me, but it wasn’t the smile that chilled me.It was the face. That face. The exact replica of the one that had haunted headlines a decade ago.Lillian Michelson. Seventeen years old. Bright eyes, sweet voice, eager hands. But no matter how she styled her blonde hair or softened her expression with that practiced innocence, I couldn’t unsee it.Luna Jones. The murdered child. The name the world still whispered about with aching hearts and disbelief.“Ivy,” she greeted, standing to hug me.I didn’t return it. I was still staring. Still trying to understand. She tilted her head. “You’re staring again.”“I told you not to contact me in public,” I muttered, slipping into the seat. “You’re a damn ghost.”She

UsLAURA’S POVI sat on the stone bench at the far end of the garden, the folder lying open beside me like a crime scene. The pages fluttered in the wind, dancing with the ghosts of everything I had once believed.I didn’t cry anymore.I had shed my last tear for Elijah Reed the moment he looked me in the eye and didn’t deny it.Now… I was hollow.Hollow, but determined.I pressed my fingers to my lips, remembering the way he used to kiss me like I was the only thing that kept him breathing. Had it all been a lie? A calculated act to keep his puppet from cutting the strings? The scent of blooming roses filled the night air, mocking me. Even nature had the audacity to bloom when I was breaking.I stood and brushed the hem of my dress, then picked up the folder with careful fingers and made my way back to the mansion. My body moved like it belonged to someone else, someone who wasn’t crumbling with every step. The moment I stepped inside, I froze.Melina stood in the hallway, eyes locke

Beneath the VowsLAURA’S POVIn my hands was the contract that had dictated the last several months of my life.Marriage, bound by ink.Love, forced through obligation.Promises, now splintered and splattered across cold paper. One week left. Seven days. And I’d be free. But why didn’t it feel like freedom?I traced the signature line with my finger, heart pounding behind my ribs like it was begging me not to finish this—begging me to stay. But stay for what? For him?Elijah Reed—the man who looked at me like I was his world… until that world cracked under the weight of doubt. Until trust turned into surveillance, and love curdled into paranoia.A soft knock tapped against the bedroom door.I didn’t answer. It creaked open anyway.“Laura,” Richard said gently, stepping in with a porcelain mug between his hands. “You looked like you needed something to settle your nerves.”I didn’t move. Just stared out the window, the silence stretching so thin it could snap.“Thanks,” I finally whisp

A House Built on SilenceLAURA’S POVThe first morning back in the Reed mansion felt like waking up in a stranger’s bed.The sheets were too soft. The silence too loud. The memories tucked in every corner a little too sharp.I sat on the edge of the bed, still in yesterday’s clothes, my fingers tangled in the hem of Elijah’s shirt—one of the few things I hadn’t packed when I left.I didn’t know why I’d kept it.Maybe part of me still held onto some foolish idea of home. But home didn’t look like granite walls and designer rugs.It looked like safety.Trust.It looked like being believed. And Elijah had failed at all three.A soft knock interrupted the stillness.I didn’t answer, but the door cracked open anyway.Richard stepped in, holding a tray. “He made breakfast.”I blinked. “Elijah?”He nodded. “Burned the first batch. Nearly set off the alarm.”I sighed, half amused, half heartbroken. “He doesn’t cook.”“He’s trying.”“I didn’t ask him to.”“No. But you haven’t asked him to stop

The Weight of Walking AwayLAURA’S POVThe motel room smelled like damp linen and old cigarettes, but it was better than my mansion that brought memories of the nights I swept after prison. It was the kind of place no one asked questions. Just handed over the key with eyes that didn’t care who you were or why you were running.I sat by the window, hugging my knees, watching the rain streak down the glass like the world itself was grieving with me.I hadn’t heard from him.Not once.No calls. No texts. No “come home.”And maybe that was the cruelest answer of all.Because I hadn’t left hoping he’d chase me.But part of me… still wanted him to.I curled tighter into myself. Was this what freedom felt like?Empty. Cold. Lonely. The soft knock on my door startled me.I stayed frozen. Silent. The knock came again—more insistent this time.I crept toward the door and peered through the peephole.Richard.A breath escaped me.Of course it was Richard.I opened the door slowly. “How did you f

The Lie That Broke UsLAURA’S POVThe moment I saw the second faint line on that pregnancy test, the world shifted. It didn’t explode, didn’t crack apart in some cinematic display of chaos. It simply... twisted.Like a soft rug pulled an inch beneath my feet, enough to make me stumble. Not enough to scream.I sat on the bathroom floor, still in my nightgown, knees tucked to my chest. The tile was cold beneath me, grounding and unrelenting. My fingers trembled as I held the test in my lap, barely able to process what I was seeing.Positive.The word blinked in my mind over and over again.I touched my stomach like I was checking for proof. But all I felt was skin, confusion, and the sudden, terrifying realization that I had no idea what to do next. How could I possibly bring a child into this chaos?Into this... contract?A shaky breath slipped from my lips. This wasn’t how I imagined finding out I might be pregnant. Not hiding in a marble-tiled bathroom. Not alone. Not with my heart s
