Genevieve's Point of View

While in my state of confusion, he took off his jacket and draped it around my shoulders, his eyes softened.

"Give me a minute," he said.

He faced Fred with a deep frown and narrowed, blood-red eyes. "How dare you treat my wife with so much disrespect?!" He landed a punch on Fred's face, sending him straight to the ground.

Fear. For the first time since I knew Fred, this was the first time he was actually afraid of someone. He shook his head in desperation.

"Don... I'm afraid you've misunderstood something. She's actually my wife. We've been—"

"Shut the fuck up!" the man snarled as he gave Fred a hard kick to his stomach.

Maybe I'm secretly a wicked person, because I felt so much satisfaction seeing Fred suffer from this man's wrath.

"You think I wouldn't recognize my wife when I see her?!"

Fred couldn't speak. He wanted to say something, but he looked so scared that he kept quiet instead.

"Take this motherfucker back!" he ordered his men. "I'll deal with him later."

Two of his men stepped forward, grabbed Fred, and dragged him outside.

Before he was dragged out completely, Fred ordered the housekeeper to take care of Kelvin until he got back.

"Come on, baby, let's go home," the man told me.

I shook my head in denial and tried to get up, but I was too weak and cold. I passed out.

*******

I don't know how long I was unconscious, but by the time I regained consciousness, I realized I was no longer lying on the floor of Fred's living room but on a soft bed.

Low-key panicking, I kicked off the blanket and was about to jump out of the bed, but someone rushed to me and stopped me.

"Good morning, Mrs. Enzo," she greeted me with a warm smile.

I cleared my throat and took a deep breath to remain calm. "Good morning. Where are we?" I asked.

"Raffaele's Estate," she replied casually, but I was dying inside.

Raffaele's Estate... There's only one Raffaele's Estate, and it's owned by the most ruthless Mafia boss, Enzo Raffaele Fabio. I recalled Fred calling him Mr. Enzo last night. Adding Enzo and Raffaele together, I confirmed he's definitely the Mafia boss.

How on earth did I get involved with Enzo Raffaele Fabio? Could it be that my father owed him some money before his passing, and he's here to retrieve it?

"My name is Cora, and starting from today, I'm your personal maid," the woman's voice cut through my thoughts.

"Huh?" I muttered. She chuckled at my confused expression before proceeding to introduce the two other ladies, whose presence I hadn't noticed earlier.

"This is Renee; she's the cook, and this is Patricia; she's your nutritionist."

"Nutritionist?" I asked, wondering why I'd need a nutritionist.

"Yes. According to the doctor, your health is not so great at the moment because of the miscarriage you had last night..."

"What?" I interrupted her, my eyes widening in shock. "Miscarriage? Was I pregnant?"

She tilted her head with a confused expression. "Yes, you were pregnant. You bled so much last night," she said.

How did I not know about my own pregnancy? Then it dawned on me that Fred and I had sex without protection two months ago because he was too lazy to get a condom from the drawer right next to his bed.

"Where is..." I trailed off, not knowing how to address him—he's the Mafia boss, after all.

"Master Enzo?" she asked, and I nodded simply. "He's waiting for you at the dining table."

"Okay." With a lot of questions flooding my mind, I quickly hopped out of the bed and was ready to step out, but Cora stopped me.

"Mrs. Enzo, you should wash up before meeting Master Enzo."

"Oh..."

"What would you like to wear?" she asked, opening a door that led to a walk-in closet.

My mouth fell open in perplexity as I walked into the closet. The clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry were screaming luxury. Although there were also men's clothing and accessories inside, it was as if this closet was designed for a woman.

"Is... whose closet is this?" I asked.

I tensed as I felt hot breath tickling my neck, and a rich baritone voice whispered in my ear, "It's ours, baby."

Even though I already knew who it was, I turned around and saw it was the man from last night—Enzo Raffaele Fabio. Cora bowed respectfully, then left.

"A Greek god!" I gasped as I took in his features.

His tall and athletic frame towered over me. His eyes were blue and dreamy, but there was something dark lingering around them, giving off the "don't mess with me" vibe.

"Who are you?" I asked.

He frowned slightly as he stared at me for a brief moment. "Did you really forget about me, or are you pretending not to know me?"

"I don't know you," I replied.

He nodded. "I'll tell you who I am. But let's have breakfast first and pay that motherfucker a visit." Without waiting for my response, he left.

Eager to get answers, I snatched whatever clothes I got my hands on and dashed into the bathroom.

Genevieve's Point of ViewI don't know how Kayla managed to do it, but we successfully slipped past Enzo's men, who were supposed to be guarding the door of my ward. She already had a cab ready, so once we got out of the hospital, we boarded the cab and drove off. We're currently at her place."I can't believe I just did a human heist!" Kayla said immediately after we entered her house."Argh!" I hissed in pain as I slumped on the sofa too hard."Easy, easy," she said, rushing to support me. "The wound on your chest is still fresh," she reminded me.I gasped for air as I tried to catch my breath. I found out later from the doctor's discussions with Enzo during my coma that the bullet had merely missed my heart by an inch."This isn't right. You shouldn't be out of the hospital," Kayla complained. It was obvious she was regretting her decision to help me."I have to leave," I replied. Her brows furrowed as she squinted her eyes."You have to leave?" She shook her head. "Speak. Why did

Genevieve's Point of ViewI couldn't move, but I heard everything Enzo's father said. My father was such a heartless monster. I can't believe I was so eager to know someone as malicious as him.Now I understand why Enzo's father was so against my union with his son—anyone in his position would be hostile towards me too.My heart broke when I felt Enzo's grip around my hand loosen. He must hate me now. He must be regretting his decision to marry me."Are you okay, Enzo?" I heard his mother ask, but there was no response from him. Then I heard heavy footsteps walking away from me. That must be Enzo—he stormed away."Ma'am, you have to believe my husband. He did not kill your husband. Yes, it hurt to lose a child, but with me around, he would never come after an innocent person," Enzo's mother said.My mom didn't say anything; she was only crying. I used to be angry at her and blame her for moving on too quickly by marrying my stepfather, but now I see that she only did that to give me a

Third Person’s Point of ViewEnzo's eyes widened when Genevieve slumped down before him. He reached for the gun in his pocket and shot aimlessly in the shooter's direction. His men surrounded him in an instant, shielding him and firing back, but they were a bit late—the shooter had already shot his leg and arm twice."Keep him alive. I need to know who's behind this!" he ordered his men, then gave his attention back to Genevieve."Babygirl! Babygirl! Can you hear me, babygirl?" he called, shaking her, but she didn't move as her eyes remained tightly shut."Quick, get my wife to the hospital!" he screamed. As if his men wouldn't be fast enough, he scooped Genevieve into his arms and ran toward his car, not minding his wounded arm and leg.> > > > > > > "Doctor! Genevieve's Point of ViewEnzo cried for a while. I let him cry to his heart’s content, and when he’s had enough, we sat in a moment of silence."Are you okay?" I asked, breaking the silence."Yeah.""You can stop. You don't have to tell me everything," I told him, but he shook his head in disagreement."I have decided to tell you everything about it, and I must tell you."He cleared his throat, then continued his story."It was later found out that a Mafia member was behind the accident. It took a long time, but my father eventually hunted him down and killed him," he said.I tensed instantly. My biological father was also a Mafia member. Could it be the one? Could this be the reason behind the decade-long enmity between our families? No, the time frame isn't right. I couldn't have been a baby when Enzo's sister was a teenager, right?"Although my father got revenge for my sister, I couldn't stop blaming myself. We were attacked because they knew I wasn't strong enough to fight back.
