Chapter 4

作者: Ethereal
Elena's POV

Over the next few days, messages from Damian and Isabella continued to arrive.

Three days before our fifth anniversary.

Isabella: The ocean breeze in Hawaii feels amazing. The seafood here is incredible too, but he said I shouldn't eat seafood while I'm pregnant, so he went all the way across town just to get me some food I'm used to.

Attached was a photo of the Hawaiian beach, the sand, the palm trees, and Damian in the distance, opening a takeout box.

Damian: The food here isn't really like what we have back home.

Damian: Baby, what did you eat today?

That day, I met up with a few of my closest friends at an Italian restaurant.

We ordered pizza, pasta, and tiramisu. We talked about everything we had been through over the years.

No one knew that it was the last time I would ever meet them as Elena.

We laughed. We talked about old memories. We were happy.

Because after today, I would leave this world behind under a new identity.

Seeing them again in the future would probably be impossible.

So before I disappeared, I wanted to see them one last time.

Two days before our fifth anniversary.

Isabella: The baby is only a little over a month old, and he's already researching how to raise children.

Isabella: For a first-time father, he's already so responsible. I can't wait for our little family to begin.

Attached was a photo of Damian's desk. A thick stack of parenting books sat on top.

I glanced over them casually.

The titles were:

Newborn Parenting Guide

The Science of Early Childhood Education

A Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Infant Care

Damian: Baby, I've been reading these books all day.

Damian: What did you do today?

That day, I went to the bank.

I converted all the money in my accounts into cash. Then I closed every financial account registered under Elena Blackwood's name.

From that moment on, there would be no place left in this world that carried my name.

One day before our fifth anniversary.

Isabella: He knows how exhausting pregnancy has been for me, and he didn't want the hotel staff touching my things.

Isabella: So he did my laundry himself.

Isabella: A man like this is really impossible not to love, right?

In the photo, Damian was standing in the laundry room, folding clothes.

I stared at the photo and couldn't help laughing.

Five years of marriage.

I was the one who made sure his suits were perfectly tailored, his shirts were pressed, and everything he wore was taken care of.

I had spent years looking after him in ways no one else saw.

And now, he was taking care of another woman's clothes himself.

The irony was almost laughable.

How ironic.

The night before our fifth anniversary, I went alone to the Blackwood family pier.

The ocean wind swept across the harbor.

My hair whipped across my face, but I didn't feel the cold.

I simply stood there, staring at the endless darkness beyond the water.

The waves crashed softly against the shore. The moonlight reflected on the surface of the sea.

For the first time in a long while, everything felt strangely peaceful.

By the time Damian called, it was already late at night.

His voice sounded unusually cheerful.

"Baby, I just landed. I'll be home soon. I even brought your favorite dessert. Are you happy?"

"I'm not at home."

There was a pause on the other end. "It's so late. Where are you?"

"Harbor."

"Why are you there?"

"I wanted to see the ocean."

"Wait for me. I'll be there right away."

Just then, a burst of noise came from his side of the call. It sounded like someone was talking. A woman.

Damian lowered his voice and said something. But the woman didn't seem to leave.

After a while, the phone became quiet.

And then, I heard a sound that was both familiar and unfamiliar.

The sound of a man and a woman kissing. Intimate. Passionate. And they weren't even trying to hide it from me.

I let out a soft laugh. "Damian, are you still coming?"

There was silence for several seconds. His voice was slightly hoarse.

"Baby, starting tomorrow, I'll spend all my time with you. Tonight, I just need to finish handling the remaining family matters. So I can focus on you afterward. Okay?"

I looked at the distant city lights across the water. Then softly replied, "Okay."

"You are so understanding." Damian laughed. "Then I'll see you at the ceremony tomorrow morning. Oh, and remember to bring the gift you prepared for me. I'm really curious what surprise you made."

"Damian." This was the last time I called his name.

"What is it?"

"Nothing."

Nothing anymore.

Because starting tomorrow, there would be no Elena Blackwood in this world.

I took one last look at the dark ocean.

Then I hailed a taxi.

"Hello. To the airport."

The driver glanced behind me.

Noticing that I had no luggage.

He asked with concern, "Miss, do you need help with your bags?"

I shook my head. "No. I don't have any luggage. Just drive."

Only a passport, a plane ticket, and the cash I would need for my new life.

Everything else that belonged to Elena Blackwood had already been taken care of.

Things worth donating were donated.

Things that needed to be destroyed were destroyed.

Everything connected to this identity would disappear completely.

Half an hour later, the taxi pulled up outside the airport terminal.

I stepped out of the taxi and walked away without looking back.

  • He Betrayed His Donna, So She Disappeared   Chapter 10

Damian's POVBy the time the investigator brought me to the apartment building, the entire place had already fallen silent. No Elena. No belongings. No trace that she had ever lived there.I stood outside the empty apartment, my voice low and almost emotionless."Where is she?"The investigator looked through the documents in his hand. "Don, our investigation confirms that someone did live here. The woman captured on the surveillance footage also bears a strong resemblance to the photos you provided.""But," I paused. "She isn't Mrs. Blackwood."My head snapped up. "What?""She isn't Elena." The investigator shook his head. "She's just an ordinary international student. Her identity, immigration records, school history, and personal records over the past few years all check out. We've confirmed that she has no connection to the Blackwood family."I stood there in silence. For a long time. I thought I had finally found her.I thought fate had given me one last chance. But in the end, it

  • He Betrayed His Donna, So She Disappeared   Chapter 9

Damian's POVI stood there. Scrolling through the messages on the phone one by one.So this was the truth. For the past six months, Isabella had been sending messages to her.Almost every day without stopping. The last one was from yesterday morning. My grip tightened little by little. Every word on the screen burned itself into my eyes.Isabella: You must have noticed by now, Donna.Isabella: Damian is only staying by your side because he feels responsible for you.Isabella: The person who truly makes him happy, the person he can actually relax with is me.Isabella: How pathetic.Isabella: You may have the title of Mrs. Blackwood, but you couldn't keep his heart. The next message contained a photo.A diamond necklace.Isabella: Damian designed this for me himself.Isabella: Isn't it more beautiful than your wedding ring?I kept scrolling.More messages.More photos.More cruelty.Isabella: It's my birthday today.Isabella: Did he tell you he had family business to handle?Isabella: Th

  • He Betrayed His Donna, So She Disappeared   Chapter 8

Damian's POVI looked like someone had taken my soul away.I sat alone in the garden behind the manor until darkness completely swallowed the sky. There was a swing there. Elena's favorite swing.Every evening, she used to sit there and wait for me to come home. But tonight, the swing was still there. The person waiting for me was gone.Only after night had fully fallen did I finally return to the bedroom.I didn't turn on the lights. I simply walked to the bed and lay down on the side where she used to sleep.I closed my eyes, trying to find even the last trace of her warmth. But all I felt was cold sheets, an empty room and a silence so heavy it was suffocating. Then, suddenly, I remembered the black gift box.Elena had told me there was a surprise waiting inside.Maybe she was still waiting for me, maybe opening it would lead me back to her.I suddenly sat up. The antique clock on the wall had just passed midnight.Today was our fifth wedding anniversary. I practically lunged for t

Damian's POV"No, that's impossible."I gripped the phone tightly, my voice already trembling."Elena can't be dead. She was just talking to me. She said she was only going to the harbor to look at the sea. She's fine. She has to be."I kept shaking my head, as if I was trying to convince the officer on the other end.Or maybe trying to convince myself."You made a mistake. She's just angry with me. She's hiding somewhere. She wants me to find her. She's waiting for me. I know she is. Elena, I'm coming."I had no idea when the call ended.I only knew that, suddenly, the entire world went silent. The next second, I rushed out of the bedroom like a man losing his mind. The study. The greenhouse. The terrace. The home theater. The wine cellar. I threw open every door in the manor."Elena!""Elena!"No answer. The entire Blackwood Manor was terrifyingly quiet. Finally, I ran back to our bedroom. And only then did I notice that half of the walk-in closet was empty. Her clothes. Her shoes. H

  • He Betrayed His Donna, So She Disappeared   Chapter 6

Damian's POVI drove all the way back to Blackwood Manor. This was the home we had shared for five years.Elena was the one who had turned this place into a home. She had personally chosen every piece of furniture, selected every member of the staff, and decided where every bouquet of flowers should be placed, especially over the past few days. The entire manor had been preparing for our fifth anniversary ceremony.Black tuxedos. Crystal chandeliers. Endless arrangements of white roses.Everyone was waiting for tomorrow.Waiting for me to once again announce my Donna to the entire New York underworld. I stepped into the grand foyer quietly, hoping to surprise Elena. But every room was empty. My brows slowly furrowed as I looked toward the servants working nearby. "Where is Elena?" Everyone stopped what they were doing at once. They exchanged uncertain glances. But no one answered. My voice turned colder. "I asked you a question. Where is Mrs. Blackwood?"The butler hesitated before a

In the meantime, at the other end of the airport.A black armored SUV sat quietly outside the private terminal. The windows were tinted so dark that no one outside could see what was happening inside. But within the car, the air still carried the lingering heat of what had just happened.Damian's POVIsabella leaned against my chest, one hand resting lightly over her stomach."Are you really going back tomorrow to celebrate your fifth anniversary with her?"She bit her lip, her voice soft and coaxing."Even the baby and I don't want you to leave. Can't you stay with us for just one more day?"I lowered his eyes to her, only smiled faintly and ran my fingers through her hair."Weren't you looking at that beachfront villa the other day? I'll have my lawyer take care of it tomorrow."Isabella's eyes immediately lit up. "Really?"I gave a careless smile. "When have I ever lied to you?"Isabella instantly wrapped her arms around me and kissed my cheek. "I knew it. You're the best, Daddy."I
