Chapter 4

Author: Breezy Rise
"Their heir?!" Margo stared at me. "What does your kid have to do with the Harding family?"

Then it clicked. She lunged, grabbed my hair, and yanked me back. "No wonder you have my fiancé's contact! Say it—is this his illegitimate kid? Did you seduce him?

"And this mansion—he bought it for you too, didn't he? If that's the case, give it back!"

Jason just gawked at me. "Tessa and my new dad?! No way. Impossible. Five years ago, she was obsessed with me. Why would she go for an old guy? She's gotta be desperate to marry me—just grabbed some random kid and claimed it's mine. Yeah, that's it."

Half-convinced, Margo called Arthur and put him on speaker. The second he picked up, her voice went syrup-sweet. "Babe, I ran into this shameless woman. She says her three-year-old is yours."

Arthur snapped. "What?! That's ridiculous! Where is she? How dare she slander me—I'll make her apologize. Margo, relax. I'd never betray you."

I cut in fast, "It's me, Tessa!"

He paused. "Tessa?"

Margo frowned. "Arthur, how do you—"

He cut her off. "She's my daughter-in-law. Of course I know her. Her child is my grandson. How could he be mine? Who's spreading this nonsense?!"

He was about to keep going when Margo blew a couple kisses into the phone. "Alright, don't get mad. Just a misunderstanding. Don't worry—I'll make sure our son marries her."

She hung up, looking pleased with herself.

Then she exhaled and turned to Jason. "You were right. She's lost it—trying to stick you with a kid so she can marry into money. Even Arthur's already calling her his daughter-in-law, so she must've planned this.

"Since you two clearly want each other, just sleep together today. I'm not accepting some random brat as my grandson. Once she's actually pregnant, Arthur might be so happy he hands you shares."

My stomach dropped. What was she even planning?

Before I could figure a way out, Jason grabbed my wrist and dragged me toward the bedroom. "You keep saying no, but your actions say otherwise. You've already gotten close to my dad—how do you explain that?

"My patience isn't endless. Drop the act. I'll give you what you want and make you a rich wife for real."

I fought back, panic hitting hard. "You're insane! My husband will be home any minute—let me go!"

Jason didn't even slow down. "Your husband? That's me."

He was too strong. I couldn't break free.

Margo jumped in, tugging at my clothes, grinning like a psycho. "Once Jason's done with you, transfer the house. Can't have him looking bad in front of Arthur.

"Just stick with Jason, and I guarantee you'll live it up in the Harding family."

The front door slammed open.

"Touch my wife and you're dead!"

Hank stormed in, Arthur right behind him, looking rattled.

Margo frowned, thinking. "Arthur and I were together for two years. He even proposed. No way he'd just cut me off. And look at her—she's scared out of her mind. That's not fake."She looked at me, eyes sharp now. "One chance. Go convince Hank. Fail, and you'll never see your son again."She tossed my phone at me.My hands shook as I stood up and called Hank. He'd been in business long enough—he got it instantly. The second he picked up, he played along."Babe, what's up? I'm still at work."I swallowed the panic. "Nothing. I just noticed your dad hasn't been happy lately. Maybe... give his phone back."He paused. "After what they did to you, are you sure—"I softened my voice. "He's been alone for years. He finally met someone he likes. I don't have the heart to break them up."He sighed. "Fine. I'll do it your way."I hung up. Margo stared at her phone like it might explode.Ten minutes later, it buzzed.[Margo, my son agreed to our relationship. I'll pick you up in ten mi

The next second, everything spun.My vision blurred. My legs gave out—I pitched forward.Jason caught me, way too fast, then sighed at the crowd like some poor, exhausted husband. "Sorry, everyone. We argued, and she refused to eat again. Her blood sugar dropped. I'll take her home."I tried to talk, but my tongue wouldn't move. Then I caught it—a faint smell on him.Did he drug me?Jason shoved me into the car, then dragged Leo in too.The second the door shut, his whole act dropped. He looked at me, eyes cold. "If you don't want anything happening to your son, behave."I turned to Leo—my chest dropped. He was out cold.To protect Leo, I stayed quiet.Jason started the car. I edged closer to Leo, fingers shaking, and felt his kid smartwatch.I pressed Hank's number. The call went through. Jason had no clue.As he drove, he laughed, all smug. "Tessa, five years ago I was just testing you—seeing if you cared about money. After everything we said, you know I still have feel

He acted like nothing happened. "Tessa, I'm here to pick you and our son up.""Wasn't the last lesson enough?" I said, ice-cold.He reached for Leo. "Why do you keep twisting this? I'm here to apologize."I ignored him, tightened my hold on Leo, and walked to the car.A few steps in—he grabbed my arm.I jerked back. "What are you doing? Let go!"His grip tightened. "Not until you accept my apology."The noise pulled other parents over."What's going on?""Should we call the police?"Jason waved it off, playing victim. "It's fine, really. Just a little argument between husband and wife. Nothing serious."Like that wasn't bad enough, he casually said Leo's name—perfectly. Then he pulled out his phone, flashing photos. "See? Leo's my son."My scalp prickled. How the hell did he have those? The crowd eased up, buying his act.Jason smirked. "Usually the staff picks him up. I finally had time to come myself."I felt like I was losing it.Hank was slammed with work, and to

"Why?!" Margo screamed, sobbing. "Because Jason's not your real son, right?!"Arthur's hands shook. "After what you did to my son, my daughter-in-law, and my grandson? You're lucky I don't have you beaten to death."The cops moved in, quick and cold, snapping cuffs on Margo and Jason. "You're under suspicion of attempted coercion. Move."Dragged toward the door, Margo kept screaming, "I'll tell everyone Arthur Harding played me! I'll go to the media and expose the Harding family!"Jason fought the officers, still running his mouth. "Hank Harding, you slept with my girl! You'll regret this!"Then the house went quiet.I held Leo while he cried, checking him over for any injuries.Hank walked over, guilt and anger all over his face. "I'm sorry. I should've protected you. I won't let them walk."That night, he moved Leo and me to another mansion. Fast. No chances.Later, his lawyers told me the damage wasn't "serious enough." The video was too short. So those two? Seven days, a f

"Dad?!" Jason and Margo froze. "Don't call him that! How could he be your father?!"Arthur cut them off fast, turning to us, voice shaking. "Hank, it's all a misunderstanding—completely! I had no idea she'd go this far, making things up and even trying to take my daughter-in-law!"He spun around and shoved Margo. "Take your son and get out. Now."Jason started to panic, but his eyes stayed locked on me. His hand shook as he pointed at Leo and me. "So... you're actually married? And that's your kid?"I slipped my arm through Hank's and smirked. "I told you from the start. You just refused to hear it."Jason shook his head like he could undo reality. "Tessa! We never broke up—it was just a cold war! How could you betray me? If you were married, why take my money? Playing both sides?"Then he grabbed Arthur's sleeve, all aggrieved. "Dad, this is a misunderstanding. If she hadn't taken the money, I wouldn't have gotten the wrong idea. This is on her."I just stared at him. Then, sl

The second Margo saw Arthur, she dropped me and rushed over. Her eyes lit up, voice going sickly sweet. "Babe! What are you doing here?"Then she shoved Jason in front of him. "Babe, this is the son I told you about—OUR son. Handsome, right? Once he's running Harding Corp, you can finally relax."Arthur's face went green. His voice shook. "What are you talking about? What 'our son'?"Margo patted his chest, all fake sweet. "Oh, you're so silly. Didn't you say we're becoming a blended family? Doesn't matter whose kid it is—we treat them like our own."Arthur shot a nervous look at Hank and started waving his hands.I got it instantly. He'd meant that after marrying her, he hoped she'd treat Hank well. No way he expected her to drag in a son like this.Jason grabbed my hand and stepped forward, smug as ever. "Dad, perfect timing. Let me introduce you—this is my fiancée. This mansion? I bought it for her. Not huge, but I earned it myself. And my mom's not with you for your money."
