Chapter 3

When Kara saw Evelyn come out, she narrowed her eyes and looked at her coldly.

“Evelyn, does your Human Resources Department not want to keep its jobs anymore?”

“You actually dared to bring an intern of this caliber into the Group?”

She pointed at me, her tone growing increasingly vicious.

“Let me tell you something. Just because she used the Group’s main entrance without permission today, I now have to arrange for someone to inspect the entire entrance area again!”

“Shouldn’t your Human Resources Department be responsible for this additional expense?”

I was so angry that I laughed.

“Using the main entrance once means the Group has to spend extra money?”

“And you think that’s a valid reason to make things difficult for an employee?”

I looked at her, my voice turning completely cold.

“And just now, you publicly threatened an employee and even put your hands on me.”

“You’d better think carefully. This is no longer just an ordinary workplace dispute.”

“I reserve the right to hold you accountable.”

Kara froze for a moment before throwing her head back and laughing.

“Hold me accountable?”

“You?”

She crossed her arms, her face full of disdain.

“Let me tell you something. At the Castellano Group, as long as President Damian is on my side, no one can touch me!”

“With him backing me, what exactly do you think you can do to me?”

With that, she turned directly toward Evelyn and ordered,

“Cancel her internship immediately.”

“After today, I don’t want to see her anywhere in the Group!”

“Otherwise, once President Damian finishes his meeting, I’ll hold you accountable too!”

Evelyn finally came back to her senses.

But she completely ignored Kara and instead hurried over to me, reaching out to support my arm.

“President… are you all right?”

She had just begun checking whether I was injured when Kara grabbed her and yanked her away.

“Didn’t you hear what I said?”

“Why are you helping an intern?”

As she spoke, she looked me up and down, suspicion filling her eyes.

“Could she be someone you got into the company through connections?”

“I knew there had to be a reason she was acting so arrogantly!”

“She even dares to ignore my orders. So it turns out she has someone backing her!”

Hearing this, the employees around us also turned their accusations toward Evelyn.

“Evelyn, you really are in the wrong this time.”

“We’ve worked together for so many years. I once asked you to help arrange a position for my son, and you refused.”

“And now look at you. You’ve brought someone into the Group through connections yourself?”

“Exactly. We respect you because you’re senior, but you can’t abuse your authority to play favorites.”

“Thank goodness Assistant Kara saw through the problem.”

“That shove just now was seriously satisfying.”

Evelyn’s expression grew uglier with every word.

Then she noticed the thin streak of blood on my arm, left by the scuffle, and her pupils suddenly contracted.

“Are you people insane?”

“How dare you lay a hand on her!”

She instinctively looked at me, her voice changing completely.

“Do you have any idea who she—”

Before she could finish, I gently placed a hand over hers.

I shook my head at her.

I wasn’t ready to reveal my identity so soon.

Since Kara had grown accustomed to abusing her power and acting recklessly because of Damian’s indulgence, I wanted to see just how far she was willing to go.

It would also be the perfect opportunity to find out exactly how many people inside the Group were still on her side.

Evelyn clearly understood what I meant.

She clenched her teeth and ultimately swallowed the rest of her words.

Kara, however, became even more smug.

She crossed her arms and looked at Evelyn mockingly.

“What?”

“Is she your sister, or your daughter?”

“Whoever she is, deal with her immediately!”

Just then—

The conference room doors at the end of the hallway suddenly opened.

The meeting was over.

I raised my eyes.

A familiar figure emerged from behind the crowd.

Damian Castellano.

He had clearly heard the commotion outside. His brows were tightly furrowed as his gaze swept across the crowd.

He barely hesitated before walking straight toward Kara.

“Kara, what happened?”

“I could hear you losing your temper all the way from the conference room.”

There was obvious concern in his voice.

“With me here, who would dare bully you?”

The moment she saw him, Kara immediately put on a wronged expression.

She gently tugged at his sleeve, her voice turning soft and sweet.

“Damian…”

“It’s her.”

“She’s a new intern. Not only did she violate the Group’s rules without permission, but she even threatened me in front of everyone and said she was going to hold me legally accountable.”

Hearing this, Damian’s expression instantly darkened.

He whipped his head around, his voice turning icy.

“Who dares to treat you like—”

The next second, the moment he saw my face, he froze completely.
