Chapter 1

At the Awakening Ceremony, I awakened Caine as my mate, but Caine awakened Sera as his.

No one had seen anything like it. The entire pack erupted.

Sera looked at me with smug satisfaction. "Evelyn, this is a first for me, seeing a she-wolf fake a mate bond. Are you really daring enough to defy the Moon Goddess?"

I frowned, glanced up toward the Moon Goddess, and focused. My wolf pointed straight at Caine. "Evelyn! It's him!"

Why couldn't he sense me?

Caine studied me for a moment, then said flatly, "Evelyn, you're already a commander. There's no need to fight over Luna as well. Sera is naturally delicate. Compared to you, she needs the pack's support more."

But the next instant, Sera suddenly burst into tears.

"Caine, Evelyn has feelings for you! Her wolf will always be drawn to you. How am I supposed to feel safe..."

Elder Thorne was the first to speak up. "We should just send Evelyn back to her old pack!"

I clenched my fists so hard my nails bit into my palms.

I was the daughter of Black Stone Pack's Alpha.

But my uncle colluded with a rival pack and murdered my father, wiping out my entire family.

It was then that the Moon Goddess revealed my true destiny: I was not meant to become the Alpha of Black Stone, but the Luna of Frost Fang.

The Moon Goddess told me that my fate awaited me there.

So I worked tirelessly to earn the acceptance of the Frost Fang pack.

But now, it seemed I had only become a nuisance to their new Luna.

But these people I had looked after all along were now stabbing me in the back, every single one.

"Are you sure you want me to leave?"

Elder Thorne said, "You're not a wolf born of this pack, Evelyn. A Luna needs the trust of her people! Your leaving is the best choice."

Beta Dallas stepped forward as well. "Sera is gentle by nature, the purest she-wolf in all of Frost Fang. You, on the other hand, carry foreign blood that runs too hot, too dangerous. We don't need someone who could turn on us at any moment!"

"That's right." Rose, who had once been close to me, now looked at me with open disgust. "Besides, Evelyn, it's not like your family never had a Luna. Your mom was Luna before your dad died, right? You've seen that being Luna isn't all it's cracked up to be. Why fight Sera over it?"

I let out a cold laugh and turned to Elder Thorne. "Thorne, if I remember correctly, three years ago your only son Reid was sentenced to death for breaking pack law. I used my reputation and my service record to save his life."

Elder Thorne's gaze darted away, unable to meet mine, but his flicker of guilt vanished in an instant. "What nonsense! You only did that to curry favor and meddle in Frost Fang's internal affairs! I heard you even channeled your wolf's energy into him."

"I did that to heal him! He had been brutalized!"

"You just wanted to turn him into your puppet!"

What a masterful twisting of the truth.

My fists clenched tighter. I turned to Dallas. "You say I'd turn on you? Then who pulled you out of the fighting pit back then? And who spent three sleepless days and nights building you up from a wreck who couldn't even shift, all the way to the Beta you are today?!"

Perhaps it was guilt, because Dallas suddenly raised his voice and roared at me, "I got where I am today on the strength of my own wolf and my own merit. What does any of that have to do with you, Evelyn?"

Fine. Fine. So none of it had anything to do with me!

"And what about you, Rose? When your mother was dying in labor, I went deep into the Miasma Woods to find the herbs that saved her life and yours. Are you going to deny that too?"

Rose said nothing. She glanced instinctively toward Sera.

An awkward silence settled over the crowd.

That was when Caine stepped forward once more. He walked up to me and said, "Why does it have to come to this? Evelyn, everyone's only asking you to leave Frost Fang for now. As long as you accept Sera, I can still let you come back..."

"No need." I refused without a moment's hesitation.

If they refused to accept me, why should I waste my energy protecting these heartless people?

Under the gaze of the entire pack, I walked slowly up to the Moon Altar.

"Evelyn, what are you doing?" Caine started forward to stop me.

But I had already bitten my finger and pressed my bloodied hand against the altar. "With the Moon Goddess as my witness, I, Evelyn, ask that you revoke my mate bond!"

Caine's eyes tightened, and the way he looked at me turned impossibly deep.

  • He Crowned Her Luna, So I Walked Away   Chapter 8

I bided my time at Frost Fang for a full six months before I finally selected a successor capable of keeping everything running: Rachel.Once I formally handed over the staff of authority and severed the last tie to Frost Fang, I set off on the journey home, claiming my rightful title as Alpha of Silver Moon Pack with uncontested authority. With the throne secured, news of the old Frost Fang wolves drifted to me in fragments, like dead leaves on the wind.I heard that Caine, now nothing more than a broken husk, scraped by like a defanged dog at the edges of the territory, chewing on the bitter fruit of his own making as he rotted away in endless despair and madness.Sera's end was worse. She never managed to hold onto the bargaining chip she had gambled on. On the day of her miscarriage, she lost the last shred of her usefulness and was exiled without mercy to the frozen wastelands of the far north.Still hollowed out from the miscarriage, with the wasteland's cold and the beasts' teet

I stood on the altar, my gaze calm as it swept over Caine. "First, honor your promise. Strip Sera of her Luna status."Caine didn't hesitate. He raised his hand at once. Two Frost Fang guards escorted Sera from the Moon Hall back to the center of the altar.Bathed in moonlight, under the Moon Goddess's witness, Caine stepped forward and removed the moon crown from Sera's head. "From this day forward, you, Sera, are no longer the Luna of Frost Fang."When he finished, I walked up to Sera and wrenched the fragments of her wolf from her body, slowly absorbing them into my own.Sera let out an agonized scream. Her aura crumbled visibly, collapsing in on itself. The Luna's dominance vanished completely, replaced by the feeble weakness of the lowest Omega.Caine stared hard at Sera, then wrenched her collar aside to reveal the brand on her neck, Frost Fang's mark. He raised his hand, wolf power gathering in his palm, preparing to tear the brand from her skin. "You don't deserve to carry this

When Sera saw me again, she lunged at me like a woman possessed. "Evelyn, it was you. You altered the ward formations and caused Frost Fang's barrier to collapse. You wanted to humiliate me in front of the pack, didn't you?"Looking at Sera, who could still lie without flinching, I smiled. "Was it my fault, or did your own greed trigger a backlash from the dark magic and bring the seal crashing down?"Faced with my accusation, Sera's eyes went wide. "I don't know what you're talking about."I scoffed. Just then, Vera walked in, dragging behind her a woman in black robes who reeked of decay."Sera, do you know her?"The instant Sera saw the dark witch, the color drained from her face. But she denied it vehemently. "I've never seen her before."Before the words had settled, the dark witch jabbed a finger at Sera and shrieked, "You're lying. I still have the tokens you paid me with, and I have proof of every word you said. You're the one who hired me to use dark magic to drain Evelyn's wo

Without the barrier's protection, Frost Fang territory became easy prey for every rogue in the wild.A bone-chilling howl split the night. With blood-curdling cries, dozens of rogues reeking of decay smashed through the hunting ground's perimeter and poured in like a black tide."Protect the winter stores!""Where's the patrol? Why isn't the patrol here?"Screams, the sounds of tearing flesh, and the crash of collapsing structures tangled into chaos.Several massive rogues rammed through the doors of the winter storehouse. Hundreds of pounds of provisions were stripped clean in moments. The entire Frost Fang pack plunged into panic unlike anything they had ever known. On the altar, Sera was clutched in Caine's arms. She coughed up black blood while glaring at me. "It's her! Evelyn, that wretch, must have tampered with the boundary ward records before she left! She wants to destroy Frost Fang!"Caine unleashed his full Alpha dominance, driving back every rogue that had broken through, b

A gentle stream of warmth flowed through my fingertips, spreading slowly into every limb.I forced my eyes open. Above me was an unfamiliar, vaulted stone ceiling."You're awake." A low, steady female voice sounded beside me.I tried to sit up, but a pair of cool hands pressed down on my shoulders. "Don't move. Your body has been pushed far past its limit."I turned my head and saw an older woman in a silver-gray robe, a bone-carved healer's emblem pinned to her chest."This is the Moon Hall of Silver Moon Pack. I'm the healer here, Vera. You collapsed in the pine forest near the border. Our patrol brought you in."I opened my mouth, but my parched throat couldn't produce a sound."Take it easy. Let me continue treating you." Vera placed her palm over my chest, and a thread of soft silver light seeped from her hand into my skin. But the next second, her expression changed completely. The silver light recoiled as though it had touched something deeply corrupt, snapping back and dissolvi

  • He Crowned Her Luna, So I Walked Away   Chapter 3

The fire basins on the Moon Altar blazed high as the Luna ceremony officially began.Caine stood beside Sera, leaned down, and sank his teeth into the back of her neck.Blood seeped from her nape, trailed down along her collarbone, and bloomed into a vivid red flower on her moon-white gown."From this day forward, Sera is officially the Luna of Frost Fang."Caine lifted the moon crown and placed it gently on Sera's head.Sera raised her chin slightly, her gaze sweeping past the crowd before settling on me."My fellow pack members, the annual Full Moon Border Rite is approaching. As your Luna, I will complete the preparations as quickly as possible. I hope you will all bear witness."So she was going to take credit for the ritual work I had already all but finished?Utterly shameless. But I wasn't angry about it.Sera's confidence told me one thing for certain: she had no idea that the final step of the Full Moon Border Rite required activating the seal with her own wolf.I wanted to se
