Chapter 2

Autor: Fox C
The next instant, something ruptured inside me.

A wet, choking sound tore out of me.

I retched violently, spewing a mouthful of blood. My body drained of all strength in an instant, and I pitched forward.

Caine staggered too, stumbling backward.

The mate bond had not been severed.

The light on the Moon Goddess's altar dimmed, fading away piece by piece.

Because of my forced resistance, a power like thorns dipped in venom tore through me, shredding everything inside.

Sera looked at me, a mocking smile curling her lips.

She pressed close to Caine and pouted, "Evelyn just won't give up, will she, Alpha? I'm your true mate. What kind of sorcery is she trying to pull?"

Something was wrong.

The Moon Goddess's power had clearly been responding to me, but at the very moment it was about to succeed, it had suddenly redirected toward Sera.

Sera's mate bond was fake.

But I still didn't know exactly why.

I studied Sera carefully. But she wouldn't meet my eyes.

But Caine, having heard Sera's words, turned to me with fury in his eyes.

He stepped forward and seized my chin. "Evelyn, hand over all pack affairs to Sera before sunset. Once the handover is done, you leave immediately. I'm letting this go because of your past service. There won't be a next time."

In that instant, the agony inside me was crushed beneath something far larger.

I gazed at him. The mate bond surged, and Caine's breathing grew heavier.

But he shoved me away.

I reined in my restless wolf, lifted my gaze, and answered evenly, "Fine."

The moment the word left my mouth, several pack stewards crowded around me:

"The winter provisions ledger, the alliance roster for the three southern packs, the western patrol rotation. You must hand all of it over to Sera."

"And the trade terms for the northern route, plus the hunting ground allocation we just negotiated with Silver Mane last month."

"Don't forget the pup academy roster. Make sure every pup's awakening timeline and bloodline rank are sorted out, so Sera doesn't have to redo the work."

I laughed when they finished.

"None of this falls under my responsibilities, does it? What exactly are you asking me to hand over?"

Dallas said, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world, "You've been doing all of it, so of course you have to hand it over."

"So you do know I've been the one carrying everything."

That was right. Every task in the pack had someone assigned to manage it.

But because I carried Alpha blood, I was naturally sharper and more capable than the rest. Whenever they couldn't handle something, they came to me for help.

Over time, no one ever thought to take their responsibilities back.

Not because they trusted me.

Because they couldn't function without me.

Yet now, just as I was about to rise to a position of power, they wanted to push me out.

The mood in the room turned heavy.

Elder Thorne stepped forward. "Enough, Evelyn. Don't play the victim. You made sure everything went through you so you could strip everyone of their authority and keep Frost Fang in your grip — isn't that it? Hurry up with the handover. The Alpha said you leave before sunset. Don't even think about stalling."

The forced rejection had injured my wolf, and my body was already at its limit. Too tired to argue with these people any longer, I led them to the stone vault.

Both walls of the vault were carved with rows upon rows of niches, every one of them stuffed with scrolls.

These were five years' worth of records I had painstakingly organized.

"Everything the pack needs is here. I've sorted each row by category. Take whatever you need." I handed the key to Sera. "This is the key to the vault."

"Good heavens! There's so much of it!"

"She must have done this on purpose. Otherwise, how could one person possibly handle all of it?"

"Exactly. She wanted us to think we couldn't survive without her. Typical outsider wolf, cunning as a fox."

Looking at their self-righteous faces, I nearly laughed out loud.

They probably had no idea how much energy it took to compile all of this, still less that I slept no more than four hours a night and sometimes not at all, just to have the next day's patrol schedule ready before dawn.

I let out a quiet laugh and turned to leave.

Sera stepped in front of me, blocking my path. "Evelyn, the Luna ceremony is about to begin. You're still one of Frost Fang's subjects, after all. Surely you should stay and watch the Luna receive her moon crown before you go?"

"By all means." I stepped back, leaned against the stone wall, and crossed my arms. "I'm curious to see how long that crown lasts on your head."

  • He Crowned Her Luna, So I Walked Away   Chapter 8

I bided my time at Frost Fang for a full six months before I finally selected a successor capable of keeping everything running: Rachel.Once I formally handed over the staff of authority and severed the last tie to Frost Fang, I set off on the journey home, claiming my rightful title as Alpha of Silver Moon Pack with uncontested authority. With the throne secured, news of the old Frost Fang wolves drifted to me in fragments, like dead leaves on the wind.I heard that Caine, now nothing more than a broken husk, scraped by like a defanged dog at the edges of the territory, chewing on the bitter fruit of his own making as he rotted away in endless despair and madness.Sera's end was worse. She never managed to hold onto the bargaining chip she had gambled on. On the day of her miscarriage, she lost the last shred of her usefulness and was exiled without mercy to the frozen wastelands of the far north.Still hollowed out from the miscarriage, with the wasteland's cold and the beasts' teet

I stood on the altar, my gaze calm as it swept over Caine. "First, honor your promise. Strip Sera of her Luna status."Caine didn't hesitate. He raised his hand at once. Two Frost Fang guards escorted Sera from the Moon Hall back to the center of the altar.Bathed in moonlight, under the Moon Goddess's witness, Caine stepped forward and removed the moon crown from Sera's head. "From this day forward, you, Sera, are no longer the Luna of Frost Fang."When he finished, I walked up to Sera and wrenched the fragments of her wolf from her body, slowly absorbing them into my own.Sera let out an agonized scream. Her aura crumbled visibly, collapsing in on itself. The Luna's dominance vanished completely, replaced by the feeble weakness of the lowest Omega.Caine stared hard at Sera, then wrenched her collar aside to reveal the brand on her neck, Frost Fang's mark. He raised his hand, wolf power gathering in his palm, preparing to tear the brand from her skin. "You don't deserve to carry this

When Sera saw me again, she lunged at me like a woman possessed. "Evelyn, it was you. You altered the ward formations and caused Frost Fang's barrier to collapse. You wanted to humiliate me in front of the pack, didn't you?"Looking at Sera, who could still lie without flinching, I smiled. "Was it my fault, or did your own greed trigger a backlash from the dark magic and bring the seal crashing down?"Faced with my accusation, Sera's eyes went wide. "I don't know what you're talking about."I scoffed. Just then, Vera walked in, dragging behind her a woman in black robes who reeked of decay."Sera, do you know her?"The instant Sera saw the dark witch, the color drained from her face. But she denied it vehemently. "I've never seen her before."Before the words had settled, the dark witch jabbed a finger at Sera and shrieked, "You're lying. I still have the tokens you paid me with, and I have proof of every word you said. You're the one who hired me to use dark magic to drain Evelyn's wo

Without the barrier's protection, Frost Fang territory became easy prey for every rogue in the wild.A bone-chilling howl split the night. With blood-curdling cries, dozens of rogues reeking of decay smashed through the hunting ground's perimeter and poured in like a black tide."Protect the winter stores!""Where's the patrol? Why isn't the patrol here?"Screams, the sounds of tearing flesh, and the crash of collapsing structures tangled into chaos.Several massive rogues rammed through the doors of the winter storehouse. Hundreds of pounds of provisions were stripped clean in moments. The entire Frost Fang pack plunged into panic unlike anything they had ever known. On the altar, Sera was clutched in Caine's arms. She coughed up black blood while glaring at me. "It's her! Evelyn, that wretch, must have tampered with the boundary ward records before she left! She wants to destroy Frost Fang!"Caine unleashed his full Alpha dominance, driving back every rogue that had broken through, b

A gentle stream of warmth flowed through my fingertips, spreading slowly into every limb.I forced my eyes open. Above me was an unfamiliar, vaulted stone ceiling."You're awake." A low, steady female voice sounded beside me.I tried to sit up, but a pair of cool hands pressed down on my shoulders. "Don't move. Your body has been pushed far past its limit."I turned my head and saw an older woman in a silver-gray robe, a bone-carved healer's emblem pinned to her chest."This is the Moon Hall of Silver Moon Pack. I'm the healer here, Vera. You collapsed in the pine forest near the border. Our patrol brought you in."I opened my mouth, but my parched throat couldn't produce a sound."Take it easy. Let me continue treating you." Vera placed her palm over my chest, and a thread of soft silver light seeped from her hand into my skin. But the next second, her expression changed completely. The silver light recoiled as though it had touched something deeply corrupt, snapping back and dissolvi

The fire basins on the Moon Altar blazed high as the Luna ceremony officially began.Caine stood beside Sera, leaned down, and sank his teeth into the back of her neck.Blood seeped from her nape, trailed down along her collarbone, and bloomed into a vivid red flower on her moon-white gown."From this day forward, Sera is officially the Luna of Frost Fang."Caine lifted the moon crown and placed it gently on Sera's head.Sera raised her chin slightly, her gaze sweeping past the crowd before settling on me."My fellow pack members, the annual Full Moon Border Rite is approaching. As your Luna, I will complete the preparations as quickly as possible. I hope you will all bear witness."So she was going to take credit for the ritual work I had already all but finished?Utterly shameless. But I wasn't angry about it.Sera's confidence told me one thing for certain: she had no idea that the final step of the Full Moon Border Rite required activating the seal with her own wolf.I wanted to se
