Aaliyah’s POV

Suddenly the penthouse felt like a prison. Orrin—his past, his mother’s deception, the cruelty he’d faced—consumed my thoughts.

His mother's story was a dark reflection of my own story, and I was paralyzed.

I grabbed my phone, my thumb hovering over Lisa’s name. I needed to tell her what I found out but doubt gripped me.

Lisa would urge me to tell him, and I couldn’t face that. What if she didn’t understand? What if she— judged me?

“Pull it together, Aaliyah,” I whispered, dropping the phone onto the couch. I sank down, my pulse racing.

My child was safe, but for how long? Orrin was too perceptive—he’d already questioned the hospital. One misstep, and It’ll all be out.

I pondered till a plan crystallized, cold and resolute.
