ANGEL

Gideon left soon after, so I widened the door and let them in. They moved carefully around the room, setting their things down, and guided me to sit in front of my vanity.

“We’ll make you the prettiest woman tonight, okay?” the makeup artist assured me, her voice light and confident.

A small chuckle slipped from my lips. As if that could really happen. No amount of makeup could do that, not when Amanda would be there.

They began working on me, and I almost fell asleep as the brushes touched my face. They carefully covered my bruises with tone-up cream.

It took them two hours before they finished up my hair and makeup. When they were finally done, they stepped aside and showed me the gown I would be wearing tonight.

I did not waste any more time and slipped into it. I asked for their help as they fastened and adjusted it carefully. When they stepped back, I heard them gasp.

“You’re so pretty,” the makeup artist breathed, eyes wide.

“Oh my gosh. Is that really you?” the stylist exclaimed, staring at me in awe.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at their exaggeration.

“Your husband will definitely fall in love with you all over again,” he added with a grin.

I shook my head in embarrassment. No matter how exquisite I might be, he still wouldn’t love me.

I walked over and stopped in front of the full-length mirror. Just like their reaction, I couldn’t help but let out a soft gasp at what I saw. I looked completely different.

My soft features were barely recognizable under the makeup they had applied. My hair was pulled into a neat bun, a few strands framing my face. Even my bangs were gone.

It had been so long since I felt this beautiful. After marrying Gideon, I stopped taking the time to dress up like this. I was always inside the mansion, with nowhere else to go.

“Wait, I forgot the accessories.”

She grabbed two small boxes and handed them to me. One look, and I could tell—these pieces must be worth a fortune. I picked the pair of earrings I liked best, and she attached them carefully.

“Um, can I skip the necklace here? I’d rather wear the one I already have,” I requested.

“Of course. Can I see it first? We’ll just check if it goes with your gown,” she responded with a smile.

I reached for the box in the drawer. It was a diamond platinum necklace, a gift from Gideon on my eighteenth birthday. I rarely got to wear it since even when my parents had been alive, formal events I had attended were few and far between.

I handed it to her.

“Wow. This is stunning,” the stylist murmured.

I touched it gently as she fastened it around my neck.

Suddenly, someone knocked at the door. They opened it, but I remained glued to the mirror, barely believing how good I looked.

“Is everything ready?” my husband’s voice cut through the room.

I snapped my head toward him, my heart skipping a beat.

He looked incredibly handsome in his black tuxedo, his hair styled neatly, accentuating his sharp features.

“All done, sir. Your wife looks amazing. Bet you’ll fall in love all over again,” the stylist said with a smile.

His gaze shifted to me. He stared at me intently, taking in every inch. Heat rose to my cheeks.

“How’s it?” I asked, trying to sound casual.

“You look…” he paused, eyes still on me, then continued with a murmur, “decent.”

My shoulders slumped. That was it? I thought he’d at least find me a little attractive, not this lukewarm response.

  • He Divorced Me, Then Begged Me Back   Chapter 35

ANGEL “So… what’s your plan now?” my uncle asked. He was shocked by the news that he called me as soon as he heard about it. Even now, he still could not believe Gideon and I were getting divorced. Then again, he knew better than anyone how hopelessly in love I’d been with him. That even after my parents passed away, my uncle had begged me to stay in America—to heal and help manage the company—but I refused. I insisted on staying here… with Gideon… my soon-to-be ex-husband. It’s been a week since I left the mansion. He probably thinks I’m doing just fine, but the truth couldn’t be more different. Every single day has been a struggle. He has no idea that I’ve come so close to wanting to tie myself to the bed just to stop myself from running back to him. From begging him to take me back. I still haven’t told his parents about the divorce because I honestly don’t know how to break the news to them. Especially h

GIDEON Her words caught me off guard. I stared at the envelope on my desk, wondering if what was inside really was a set of divorce papers. Was she actually letting me go this time? Why all of a sudden? It almost felt too good to be true. Or maybe this was just another test. Knowing her, she would never let go of our marriage after everything she had endured because of me. Once we were no longer husband and wife, she wouldn’t have anything left to hold on to. So, what was this really? Wanting to know the truth, I reached for the envelope and pulled out the documents. Sure enough, they were divorce papers, and she had already signed them. The documents were authentic, yet I still couldn’t bring myself to believe it. This had to be another one of her tactics. Did she honestly think I wouldn’t agree? Well, I would prove her wrong. I stood to grab a pen before settling back into my seat. Pretending to read through the papers, I quietly waited for her to take back everything she ha

GIDEON I guess I was wrong this time. Days passed, then turned into weeks, I kept waiting for her to come to me again like a smitten wife, but she never did. “Karen,” I called when one of the maids happened to pass by. “Yes, sir?” “Knock on Angel’s room and tell her to go to my office.” Her brows drew together in confusion. “Sir… didn’t you know?” My eyes narrowed. “Know what?” “Your wife hasn’t been home for two weeks now. I thought you already knew about it.” She wasn’t home? Was that why I hadn’t seen her all this time? I had assumed she was simply avoiding me. “Never mind. You may go.” I dismissed her with a slight wave of my hand. “Just let me know when she comes back.” Without another word, I turned and headed back to my room. Was she really that mad that she left the mansion just to avoid me? Or maybe she’d kept her end of our deal, even though I didn’t show up that day? Now I couldn’t help but feel really terrible. I forced myself to brush it aside, telling mys

GIDEONI rubbed my eyes as I slowly woke up. My brows furrowed when I realized I was in Amanda’s room. The sunlight filtering through the curtains made me squint as I sat up on the bed and tried to recall what happened last night. My memories were a complete mess. I must have blacked out.I let out a sigh and ran a hand through my hair. Amanda and I drank quite a lot last night. I knew I was drunk, but I didn’t think I had gotten drunk enough to completely lose memory of what happened afterward.Pushing the thoughts aside, I got out of bed and picked up my shirt from the floor. I always slept shirtless, and judging from where it landed, I probably threw it somewhere before passing out.I headed straight to the bathroom. After taking a shower and brushing my teeth, I finally stepped out of the room feeling a little more human.I immediately spotted Amanda sitting on the couch. A smile automatically spread across my lips.

ANGELWhen I opened my eyes, a plain white ceiling was the first thing that greeted me. The familiar sterile scent lingered in the air, accompanied by the faint hum of machines nearby. My brows slowly knitted together as I stared blankly overhead, still trying to piece my thoughts together. Then, all at once, realization hit me.I was in a hospital. My eyes widened in terror. I immediately tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through my body, forcing a pained whimper from me. Everything hurt. My head felt heavy, my muscles ached, and even the slightest movement made me uncomfortable. What happened? Why does my whole body ache? The door suddenly opened, and a nurse walked inside. She looked surprised to see me awake. Before she could say anything, fragments of memories suddenly flashed through my mind. My breathing immediately became uneven.“No…”I shook my head repeatedly as more memories came flooding back.

ANGELI barely processed anything, yet somehow, I still found myself driving to the location he had sent.It was pathetic, really. Last night, I spent hours telling myself it was time to move on from him. Yet all it took was one message, and suddenly I was clinging to hope all over again.I knew I should be more guarded after what happened. I knew I should stop expecting things from him. But no matter what I did, I always found myself crawling back to him.I kept biting my nails nervously while the elevator ascended. My heart pounded harder with every passing second, although it wasn’t the kind of nervousness I wanted to feel. It wasn’t excitement. If anything, it felt more like anxiety. A strange feeling sat heavily in my chest, making it difficult to breathe properly. My palms were already damp with sweat by the time I reached the door. I wiped them against my clothes before reaching for the doorknob.I slowly pushed the door o

ANGEL I looked up at the sky, quietly admiring the full moon hanging between scattered stars. The night air was cold, and every time the wind passed, I instinctively rubbed my arms for warmth. “You’re here.” The sudden voice made me flinch. I turned around and saw Gideon standing a few steps awa

ANGEL I sat on a sun lounger by the poolside, letting the warmth sink into my skin. Zenaida was not around today, which meant I was free to do whatever I wanted. I closed my eyes and breathed in slowly, enjoying the moment. For once, my mind was calm. Then I heard footsteps drawing closer. I di

ANGEL “Hah!” I jolted awake, my body snapping upright as the nightmare tore me out of sleep. My chest heaved while I dragged in shaky breaths, my hand instinctively wiping the cold sweat from my forehead. Two years ago, our car was ambushed. Everything was still so vivid in my memory, as if it ha

ANGEL It was only six in the morning, and I was already awake to start the chores. The bathroom floor was cold against my knees as I scrubbed the tiles with a brush. My hands burned, red and rough from soap and water, but I kept going. The strong scent of bleach stung my nose, and my eyes watered
