Chapter 2

Author: Liora Z
Leo let out a mocking laugh, shaking his head.

“Aurora, that word should be coming from me. If it wasn't for this goddamn marriage alliance, why the hell would I have been in hiding for five years?”

“That car crash was the perfect escape..”

I stared at him.

I suddenly remembered the bodyguard who "escaped" with Leo.

He came back, said the car exploded and went off the bridge. Leo died instantly.

I thought it was strange then. If the explosion was that bad, how did the bodyguard get out clean?

Now I knew. The whole thing was a setup by this coward.

"Leo, you—"

"Sir!" A panicked voice cut me off.

Antonio, the head butler, rushed in. He saw Leo and his face went white.

"Sir, you cannot speak to the Madame that way!" he stammered, horrified. "She is the Don's wife! The sitting Don!"

He raised an amused eyebrow, looking from me to the terrified butler.

“The Don's wife?”

Cecilia beside me asked in a feigned innocent tone.

“Leo, didn't you say that once your father stepped down, he would pass the title of Don to you?

Leo's expression froze for a moment, then he looked at me indifferently.

“My father has only one son, and no one else is qualified to inherit the title of Don besides me.”

“Antonio, have you gone senile in the five years I’ve been away? Everyone in New York knows I am the one true heir to the Corleone bloodline.”

Antonio looked even paler, his voice shaking. "Sir, you... you misunderstand. The Madame is married to Don Cassiano. He is the head of the Corleone family now."

After Leo fled the wedding that day, I stood blankly in the church, surrounded by mocking stares from everyone around.

Just when I thought I would die of shame, the heavy cathedral doors swung open.

Cassiano walked in.

He wore a black, custom-tailored suit, his face as cold and hard as a marble sculpture.

“The wedding will proceed,” his voice was low, leaving no room for argument. “I will marry her.”

No one dared to question him. No one dared to object.

Because he was Cassiano Corleone. Leo’s uncle. The true power of the Family.

He saved my dignity. He saved my life.

If that's the case, why wouldn't I marry?

“I’ll admit, Aurora, it’s a clever move. But using my Uncle Cassiano as your shield? That killing machine who doesn’t even touch women? You really think I’m going to fall for that?”

Antonio kept persuading him: "Sir, this is the truth. You can check the news on social media, or ask the maids in the household if you still doubt it."

Leo turned to the other trembling servants. “And you all want to tell me,that this woman is now your mistress, hmm?”

The servants didn't dare look up. One maid whispered, her voice shaking, “…Yes, sir. The Donna… she is married to Don Cassiano.”

Another servant nodded as well.

Leo’s smile vanished from his face, replaced by the cold fury of a man who feels he’s been played for a fool.

He didn’t shout. His voice dropped to a low, dangerous growl. “Good. Very good. It seems everyone in this estate has learned to act in the five years I’ve been gone.”

“Aurora, your methods have gotten cheaper. Not only did you cook up this ridiculous excuse, but you paid off the entire staff to play along with this little charade to trick me?”

I calmly admired my diamond-studded nails, not even bothering to spare him a glance.

I was the Don’s woman. That was an unbreakable law.

Whether he believed it or not was completely irrelevant.

Leo was spoiled since childhood, and Antonio feared he might do something irrational, hastily ordered one of his men:

"Get a message to the Don!Tell him to abort the deal and get back to the estate. Now!"

Cassiano went to Sicily today, closing a heavy arms deal.

The old Don and his mother are not in the manor.

If they were here, Leo wouldn't have the balls to pull this crap.

Right in the middle of the standoff, a little voice called from the stairs.

"Mama, it's time for my target practice!"

No matter how tangled the past was, the name Leo was now completely erased from my world. But he was like a fly you couldn’t kill. A powerful sense of danger shot through me. My hand slipped down to the hidden dagger strapped to my thigh.“What do you want?”Leo tried to grab my wrist. I recoiled like he was a viper. The fool was insane. Right under the Godfather’s nose? Did he have a death wish?He saw the disgust on my face and gave a miserable laugh. “Aurora, are you that scared of me?”“We were almost husband and wife. And now you can’t even stand the sight of me?”I gave him a look reserved for something you scrape off the bottom of your shoe. “One more step, and I sever your carotid artery. You and I are finished. It’s over.”“Cut the disgusting act. Get out of my way.”I tried to walk around the statue, but he blocked me with his arm.His eyes were bloodshot. He stared at me, completely unhinged.“Aurora, I never meant to run out on our wedding. I only wanted to go out and clear my head.”“You told me you would be mine forever.I thought you would never leave me, that you’d wait for me to come back..”Where

Back in our bedroom, Cassiano handed Nico to the bodyguard waiting outside the door. He locked us in and immediately carried me to the bed. “You were scared today. Let me see where else he hurt you.”I shook my head. “I’ll live. It was just one kick.”His eyes were full of a frantic, aching pain. He roughly unbuttoned my silk shirt to check.Aside from the small cut on my cheek, he saw the shocking, dark purple bruise on my ribs. His eyes instantly turned red.Cassiano gritted his teeth. The room filled with his regretful, murderous energy. “That goddamn animal. I should have just pulled my gun and blown his fucking head off right then and there.”He retrieved a special salve, the kind of remedy money can’t buy.His large, calloused hand was gentle, unbelievably controlled, as he rubbed the cream into my bruised skin. When he was done, he couldn't help himself. He leaned down.He pressed a hot, possessive kiss just next to the bruise. His voice was husky. “Good girl. Say my name.”The

Leo grabbed his mother’s dress. “Mom,” he choked out, “Cassiano said Aurora is his legal wife. That the bastard is their son! Tell me it isn’t true!”His mother’s sobs stopped cold. She admitted the cruel truth.“After you went missing, everyone thought you were dead. Aurora pledged herself to the Godfather, right there in the church. The child… he is pure Corleone blood.”“If you were alive all this time, why didn’t you send a signal to the Family? Do you have any idea what I’ve been through? I’ve been a wreck!”Leo still tried to argue. “I merely loathe the family's arranged marriage and long to get away to clear my mind. How could you just give my woman to uncle?”He abandoned the wedding right then and there on their big day, leaving countless guests behind and forcing me to endure public humiliation alone—all just to clear his mind?It was laughable. What was I thinking back then? How blind was I to worship a coward like him? That year, I was cutting through a dark alley in Broo

Leo, having lost his senses, did not hear the man’s questioning.Antonio's face lit up with delight, quickly let go of Leo's arm.“Sir,Boss has returned.”They were greeting Cassiano as he stepped into the bloody room. The second he was inside, his eyes landed on me. I clutched our son, blood trickling from my mouth. In an instant, his dark, deep-set eyes were consumed by a murderous rage.He scanned the room, looking at everyone like they were already dead.Leo paid no heed to his uncle’s expression at all. He pointed at me and started to complain.“Uncle Cassiano, you’re just in time! This shameless bitch Aurora betrayed our engagement. She had a bastard. I’m just cleaning house for the Family!”The words hung in the air. The whole hall went dead silent. A deadly frost formed in Cassiano’s eyes. He pulled the gun from his thigh holster and smashed the butt of it into Leo’s cheekbone.“Open your goddamn eyes. Look closely,” he snarled. “She is my wife. The Donna. And Nico is my son
