Chapter 4

Author: Elizabeth
From that night on, Leo dropped all pretenses.

He would hurled vicious insults at me, lock me inside the den, and forbid anyone from speaking to me. As the alpha of the pack it was easy for him to do anything he wanted to me.

He confiscated my phone, and every time my father or brother called, I could only answer under his watchful, icy gaze.

He said I needed to atone for my sins, the sin of taking the life of the she wolf he loved.

Without me knowing, he had come to hate me so deeply that he wished I would die without a trace. And later, he got what he wanted.

But why? Why was he still not happy? Did I suffer for nothing? Pain wretched through my wolf.

Now, standing there with my prenatal report in hand, Leo was trembling with rage. It said I was seven weeks pregnant.

The pup was only the size of a bean, barely able to be called a life yet but that was my pup. I could feel his heartbeat.

But Leo couldn’t. So why did it hurt him too? Why is he acting all hurt when he hurt us?

Why did he cry heavy tears that fell onto the paper, soaking the final image of our pup?

“Go and find Butterfly’s parents,” Leo said through his teeth and ordered his beta in a broken voice.

Maybe he still refused to believe that the truth was different from everything he had believed. But had to dig it all up all the secrets before he could be satisfied.

It seemed like he was punishing himself. One wound was bad enough. He had gotten his revenge, Now he wanted to reopen the wound for more pain?

She’s dead. Even if the truth clears my name, what does it change? He had already killed me. He had already killed our pup.

I resisted the urge to curl up and cry. I needed to see how this ended.

I sat beside him, waiting. As I looked at his wretched state, I wondered, if only he had woken up a little earlier.

Why didn't he find this out earlier? Then he would not have pursued me, I would never have bonded with him. I would never have died. What was the use?

I felt that we were cursed. Cursed to destroy each other.

Butterfly’s parents hadn’t gone far. They had used the money to build their family and moved to a pack in a different territory.

When Leo showed up, they were so frightened they didn’t even dare breathe. Leo was no more that scrawny wolf in love with their daughter. He was the alpha of a powerful pack.

“Two years ago, when Butterfly’s heart was donated to the temple, what happened?” Leo asked icily.

Their faces turned dark.

Clearly, they knew he had uncovered something.

"Isn't she just a she wolf? An omega at that. It was her job to contribute to the family," Butterfly's father said.

Crash.

A chair slammed into her father. Leo lost all control.

He attacked with his claws extending, smashing blow after blow. “She was your daughter! Your daughter!” how could they fight an angry Alpha? It was utter chaos as Leo raged.

I stood off to the side, watching coldly. What was the use of all this now? Did I not pay the price for her death?

Leo came from a poor pack and knew the power of position. He had seen families sacrifice weaker wolves or she wolves for a better life, but he could not understand this.

He tore their house apart. A punch went through the walls, cracking it.

Under torture, the family confessed what had happened to Butterfly.

One day, while leaving the infirmary, they had overheard a healer talking about my case. They heard that my family had money and came to an idea.

They orchestrated a tragic accident for Butterfly, and through a middleman, they "donated" her heart to me in exchange for ten million dollars from my father. They deceived the temple. This was surely a lot of work.

The truth finally came to light, and Leo was left shattered.

He returned to the den, his usual composure gone.

The den was empty, nothing I owned reminded.

He lay on the couch, surrounded by silence, with only the butterfly chandelier above us as though to remind us of our past.

Our relationship was of love and hate and had ended in destruction.

Leo's behavior at first had made me conflicted. He was angry, yet still showed moments of tenderness. I struggled to understand his emotions, so I walked on eggshells around him.

We continued to play the role of each other's mate, but it was a twisted bond that was sure to end badly and it did.

I could feel my body slowly slipping away. Maybe my obsession for Leo was what kept me longer than I should.

Now that my name was cleared, I felt like I had no reason to stay. I shouldn't exist anymore.

Tomorrow marked the seventh day since my death, and I hope tonight will be my last night by his side.

I really couldn’t understand what was going on in Leo's mind at that moment. And what gave him the audacity to think I wasn’t actually dead and demand I be returned when he dumped my ashes himself. At this moment, all that mattered was that I felt lighter and lighter. I felt so light that even a gust of wind could carry me away. It was clearly almost time for me to vanish.Leo paced around the house. His inner wolf rage madly as he called my name over and over again. When no answer came, his wolf went crazy and he started smashing things one after another.it was only after he had broken everything in sight that he woke up from his stupor and his mind cleared slightly. He made a phone call to his assistant and the request he made a request for an urgent meeting with the Oracle. The Assistant paused. Even though their pack had an oracle, all oracles truly belonged to the moon goddess' temple. How wa she to get him to the Alpha's den?Since the Alpha had requested it, he had to see it t

Leo was frantically searching through the den, but there wasn't much left to search. Most of the cabinets had already been emptied. I watched him from a nearby spot for a quarter of an hour as his wolf grew increasingly agitated. At 3 a.m., he barked into the phone at his assistant to come over.Soon the assistant arrived. Leo pointed at a cabinet and roared;"Where are the items that were in this cabinet?" The sleep-deprived assistant hesitated before responding, "Alpha, you instructed us to clear everything out..." Leo's outburst was silenced by those few words. The assistant arrived and departed, equally perplexed by the situation. Leo slumped to the floor, his gaze fixed on the diamond rings, his voice barely above a whisper: "This can't be happening. Judy, even in death, you're still tormenting me."Sure enough, he was pinning the blame on me.My wolf was furious at first, then weak again, at the thought of how insane he was acting.I really wanted to know what exactly he wa

The first thing leas saw as he opened the box, was a knitted sweater.Leo frowned and took out was a half-knitted little sweater. He had already found out about my pregnancy, so it was clear it was for our pup we never got to have.A long time ago, I had just found out I was pregnant. I was overjoyed. I’d bought yarn and started learning how to knit from a blogger online.I had no talent as the lines were crooked and the stitches wrong. But I recall how excited I was to learn and create something for the pup. I had thought Leo would like it too.But I never expected that less than a month later, that dream would be shattered. Now that he knew I’d once been pregnant, he didn’t show much of a reaction. But I could see him clench the tiny sweater tightly in his hands.Long time ago, when he was still pretending to love me, he used to say how he would love a pup in the future. A pup, a symbol of our love. I didn’t know how he would feel now, seeing this.My inner wolf was nervous as I wai

That final night seemed like nothing had happened.Leo showered, and I sat nearby, staring to my favorite flower I had tended to when I was alive. "Judy," he called out suddenly. I stiffened. I had to remind myself that he could not see me. But it was hard after the years of suffering not to flinch from hearing my name.I waited until he didn't call again, then let out a silent sigh of relief. He had forgotten his clothes. In the past, I would bring them to him, but now I just stood outside, sulking. I knew he only called my name out of habit. When someone gets used to another's presence, the absence feels like a loss. The name he said was just a sound, not a real call for me.I went back to staring at my plants. I reached out and touched them and they moved. If Leo came out and saw them shaking, maybe he'd think the house was haunted. Scaring him wouldn't be bad, I thought. But an hour passed, and he still didn't come out. Out of habit, I started to worry. I opened the door, an

On the way back, Leo drove faster than he ever had before. His face was darker than ever, his wolf panicking wildly..I could only sigh at this. I had always believed I wasn't the one who caused his beloved's death. But seeing him so sure and seeing how many things remained hidden, I was not so sure.Leo sped all the way, finally slamming the brakes at the gates of my family’s estate. The once-grand Judy’s family villa had fallen so quickly. Sure enough, one should not fight with a strong pack or make their Alpha your enemy. My family was a big example of this. As Leo entered, not a single servant was in sight. “Leo, you still dare to come here?!” My brother grabbed his collar and threw a punch at him, but he was too weak to fight an alpha. Leo casually shoved him away.“Get out of my way!” Leo’s face was like that of a demon. “I’m not here to fight you. Just tell me. Where did Judy’s heart come from?!” Leo asked.“Hahahahaha, where it came from?” My brother laughed wildly, breaki
