Chapter 5

Author: Tiny Pear
A week later, an entertainment news story about Jason went viral.

It contained screenshots from Naomi's Instagram posts over the past week.

On the first day, Naomi sat beside Jason's hospital bed with tear-filled eyes. Jason smiled reassuringly at her, and his eyes overflowed with tenderness and love.

On the third day, Naomi posted a photo of Jason's face as he slept. It was followed by a photo of their fingers intertwined and a caption.

[You will always be the love of my life.]

Finally, there was a video.

It showed Naomi taking meticulous care of Jason while he was being discharged from the hospital. A crowd of reporters surrounded the entrance and bombarded Jason with questions.

"Mr. Porter, there are rumors that Sylvia, a vile woman, forced you to jump from the building. Is that true?"

Jason said nothing. Instead, Naomi, who stood beside him, answered in a seemingly nervous voice. "Ms. Carter didn't mean to do it. Please don't blame her."

On the surface, she appeared to be defending Sylvia. But in reality, she had effectively confirmed the accusation.

Jason, who would normally coldly silence entertainment reporters, simply protected Naomi and walked away with her. He deliberately left room for the public outrage to grow and fester.

Sylvia exited the page. Yet the image of Jason's indifferent expression in the video kept flashing through her mind. It sent a sharp pain through her chest.

She had never cared about other people's opinions. She had long grown accustomed to being alone. It wasn't until Jason appeared.

He had pulled her out of the swamp of public opinion, only to release his hand and coldly watch her fall into the abyss the moment she began depending on him.

Fortunately, there was only one week left. After that, she and Jason would have nothing to do with each other ever again.

Just when Sylvia thought she could calmly wait for the divorce to be finalized, Naomi appeared in front of her with two bodyguards.

Naomi had come to settle the score. "I heard you even got your hands on surveillance footage from the Porter family and wanted to prove that I did it.

"Unfortunately, Jason trusts me too much. I didn't even have to explain anything before he decided it was only an accident."

Naomi chuckled sarcastically. "How dare you say those things to Jason? Don't you know? I'm someone who always gets my revenge!"

She waved her hand. "Teach her a proper lesson!"

The bodyguards immediately made a move. One grabbed Sylvia's limbs while the other pressed down on her back. They were trying to force her to her knees.

Sylvia struggled violently and yelled, "Let go! If you touch me one more time, I'll make sure you never have a place in this city again!"

The bodyguards hesitated for a moment, but they then kicked Sylvia hard in the knee. "I'm sorry, Ms. Carter. Mr. Porter ordered us to do as Ms. Luther says.

"He told us that as long as Ms. Luther is happy, we can do whatever we want, including hurting you."

Sylvia's knee slammed against the ground. There was a crisp sound of bones hitting the floor.

Sylvia looked up in disbelief. The next second, Naomi raised her hand and slapped her across the face.

"Did you hear that?" Naomi covered her mouth and laughed. She then looked down arrogantly at Sylvia's stunned, humiliated expression.

"I will always be number one in Jason's heart. You're nothing but trash hidden away in some forgotten corner!"

Then came the second slap, the third slap, and countless more.

The searing pain spread through Sylvia's nerves. The dizziness blurred her vision into double images, and her body went limp as she teetered on the verge of fainting.

That was when Naomi called for them to stop. She held her phone in front of Sylvia with a delighted smile. "I uploaded the video of you being beaten online. It's doing really well."

Sylvia's eyes went wide.

On the screen, she was seen kneeling on the floor with her hair being yanked back. Her face looked horribly swollen.

Naomi had exposed Sylvia at her most humiliating and degrading moment and trampled her dignity completely.

Naomi casually read out the comments beneath the video.

"Which hero stepped up to deliver justice? This is so satisfying."

"Seriously, that pathetic, miserable look suits her perfectly. Isn't she supposed to have slept with countless men? Is this how she normally seduces them too?"

"Arghh!" Sylvia let out a furious roar like a trapped beast that was desperately trying to break free. "Naomi! You should just go to hell!"

It was useless.

Naomi delivered one final slap and knocked Sylvia to the ground.

She sneered. "I'm giving you three days to ask Jason for a divorce.

"Or else, consider this an appetizer. The real fun comes later."

Jason stayed in the hospital for an entire month. The doctor looked at him but was clearly hesitant to speak. "Mr. Porter, if this happens again, even a miracle won't save you."Jason never cared about this.He quietly kept himself informed about Sylvia's life.He learned that she had become an excellent studio owner and had recently held a highly acclaimed art exhibition that had attracted widespread attention in the industry. He learned that she was living a happy married life. The Johansen family didn't care about her past. Instead, they treated her like one of their own.He learned how difficult her life had been over the past two years, how hard she had worked, and how Frank had always stayed by her side.Jason even started seeing a therapist. The therapist told him that sometimes, letting go was the best outcome for both parties. Loving someone didn't necessarily mean having to possess them.It was just like the way he had once treated Naomi. Quietly watching over her an

Meanwhile, Sylvia got into the car.It was her wedding night. Frank had spent more than six months preparing for this wedding, but because of her, Jason's appearance had caused a slight disturbance."I'm sorry."Sylvia had just parted her lips when she heard Frank's soft apology.Frank pulled the car over, gently brushed the loose strands of hair away from Sylvia's cheek, and said again, "I'm sorry. I should have checked the guest list more carefully."The Johansen family was several times more powerful than the Porter family. Their guest list included businessmen from all over the world. How could they possibly check every single name?Looking at the unwavering love in Frank's eyes, Sylvia's heart softened completely. She knew that the love she felt for Frank was different from what she had once felt for Jason.Jason had always been distant and aloof, so she had to keep her own personality in check around him. Her love for him had always carried an element of looking up to him

The hollow feeling that had haunted Jason like a demon suddenly vanished the moment he held Sylvia in his arms.He tightened his embrace. He was holding her so tightly that he almost wished he could merge her into his very bones and never let her go again.Soon, Sylvia struggled free and slapped him across the face. The crisp sound of the slap rang out.Taking advantage of Jason's momentary daze, Sylvia shoved him away with all her strength."We have nothing to do with each other anymore." Sylvia's voice was flat. "Mr. Porter, please have some self-respect."Jason's breathing grew rapid and ragged. He wanted nothing more than to kidnap Sylvia, yet he was terrified that she would hate him.He couldn't accept this outcome. After all, he was the one who had betrayed Sylvia."Sylvia, I love you." Jason was willing to tear his heart out and show it to her if that's what it took to convince her of how he felt. The man who could sign million-dollar contracts without the slightest cha

Sylvia hadn't noticed Jason's intense gaze at all.On this important occasion, the spotlight was focused entirely on her and Frank Johansen. Her palms were slightly sweaty, and her heart was beating rapidly.Frank noticed her nervousness too. He smiled gently at her. He then took the wedding ring from the attendant and got down on one knee.He treated her as solemnly as if she were the most precious person in his life. "Sylvia, I love you. Will you marry me?"Amid the cheers of the crowd, Sylvia's eyes gradually filled with tears. It felt like a dream to her. This was her second wedding. Even Sylvia herself was surprised that she had stepped into marriage again after such a short period of time.Originally, she had thought she would never trust anyone again in this lifetime. Yet Frank had entered her world and, with his tenderness, patience, and thoughtfulness, melted the walls of ice around her heart. He gave her the courage to believe in love once more. She nodded and was abou

Two years later, in a crowded bar, a woman wearing bunny ears tried to cling to Jason. She blew softly against his ear and asked sweetly, "Mr. Porter, would you like a drink?""Get lost." Those two simple words were enough to scare her into leaving in a hurry.Jason's friend Daniel let out a long sigh when he saw this. "Jason, it's been two years. Stop torturing yourself."This was far from the first time he had brought Jason out to take his mind off things. Yet every time a woman came anywhere near him, one cold look from Jason was enough to send her running.Daniel said earnestly, "Jason, let yourself go. Find someone better than Sylvia. One day, you'll move on, just like you did from the pain Naomi caused you.""She's different." His friend heard the exhaustion and hoarseness in Jason's voice. "Sylvia is different."Daniel fell silent. Watching Jason bury his head and drink himself into such a miserable state, he could not help but feel his own eyes sting.Indeed, Sylvia was

Jason slowly lowered his head. Looking at the woman he had once loved trembling uncontrollably in his arms, all he could see were the pieces of evidence Sylvia had posted online.Naomi had ordered the bodyguards he sent over to force Sylvia to kneel and beg for mercy, crushing what little remained of her dignity.Naomi had even conspired with her ex-husband by offering him a large sum of money just to deliberately torment Sylvia. At this moment, Jason found Naomi utterly unfamiliar. She no longer seemed like the innocent, kind-hearted girl he had once loved."What did you do to Sylvia?" Jason's voice was eerily calm. His dark eyes stared at Naomi as if they could drag her into an endless abyss."Don't lie to me, Naomi. You know me. I don't like betrayal, and I hate being deceived even more."His cold voice immediately stopped Naomi's tears.Naomi choked back a sob, and her gaze darted away. "I-I really didn't do anything. I just–"She clenched her jaw. She had no idea what othe
