Chapter 4

Author: Noorie
“I have every reason to hate her!” I said, my voice cold. “But tonight it's for ruining my mother’s pendant.”

“Nora would never do something like that.” He spat, “She was only cleaning it.”

“And of course you would believe her!” I screamed, “Even if you have to hurt me for her lies, you would not hesitate.”

Only then did his gaze fall to my arms that were dyed red in blood. He frowned.

“Isadora…” he whispered my name, his eyes reflecting genuine concern, “I didn't mean to hurt you–”

“Kneel!” I commanded, “You failed your duty, Lucian. You have committed the heinous, declared crime of attacking the person you swore to protect.”

He immediately knelt. No question. No hesitation.

The Alpha of the Shadow Pack was kneeling before me. I felt no pride. There was only pure fury and vengeance.

I pulled out the Alpha Commanding hunter, a gift from my paternal uncle. I raised my hands to hit his shoulder.

“This is to fail your duty, Lucian–”

I did not realise when Nora walked past Lucian and covered his back, shedding feigned tears. “It's not his fault. He was just trying to protect me. If you want to hit, hit me instead.”

Before I could stop, the hunter had already landed on her back, spilling blood all over.

“Nora…” Lucian screamed.

Nora let out an ear-piercing shriek, collapsing against Lucian as blood soaked the back of her dress.

Lucian’s breath hitched. In a split second, he caught Nora in his arms, his eyes snapping up to meet mine. The raw, murderous rage radiating off him made every instinct in me scream to retreat.

Yet, he didn't strike. He couldn't. Bound by his solemn oath and my direct command, he forced the suffocating anger down, his chest heaving as he suppressed the beast thrashing beneath his skin.

Without a single word, he scooped Nora into his arms, casting one final, ice-cold look at me before rushing her out of the room.

Night fell, heavy and suffocating. Seeking space away from the lingering scent of blood and betrayal, I walked near the borders of the pack lands. I never saw them coming.

A heavy cloth slammed over my mouth, smelling of foul, bitter wolfsbane.

Hands—rough, filthy, and reeking of rot—dragged me into the darkness.

"The little princess thinks she can bleed our Alpha's favorite?" a gruff voice spat.

Before I could summon a command, a heavy blow cracked across my jaw. I hit the dirt hard.

A barrage of kicks rained down on my ribs and stomach, shattering bone and stealing my breath. Rouge wolves. The Shadow Pack's filth, doing dirty work in the shadowy treeline.

I lay in a pool of my own blood, gasping, unable to trigger my healing through the wolfsbane paralyzing my veins.

Through the ringing in my ears and the haze of fading consciousness, heavy footsteps approached. Someone stopped just out of my restricted line of sight.

"That's enough," a voice deep, dark, and unmistakable commanded through the shadows.

It was Lucian.

"You shouldn't have hurt Nora, Isadora," he whispered, his voice completely devoid of warmth. "Actions have consequences."

He didn't lift a finger to save me. He simply turned and walked away, leaving the rogues to toss my broken, bleeding body back onto the main path near the pack house hours later as a warning.

Dragging myself through the dirt, every breath a jagged blade in my lungs, I hauled my shattered body toward the courtyard. I needed to reach my quarters, to survive.

Then I saw them under the moonlight near the sacred ancestral stones. Just next to my mother’s grave.

Lucian stood tall, his head tilted back, eyes closed. Nora was draped over his chest, her hands resting softly on his shoulders, completely unbothered by her supposed injuries. She gave me a slow, victorious smirk over his shoulder as I collapsed against a stone pillar, paralyzed by agony.

She leaned in, her fangs extending under the full moon, and sank them deep into the junction of Lucian's neck and shoulder.

A low, guttural groan tore from Lucian’s throat as the bond sealed. My heart shattered into a thousand jagged pieces right there in the dirt.

He had let her mark him—the Alpha of the Shadow Pack was now bound to the woman who destroyed everything I had left.

And the place they chose—my mother's ancestral land?

I had once disclosed my wish to Lucian: I’ll take my mate to my mother's graveyard and mark him before her, taking her blessings, trying to give him some hints.

He knew what this place meant to me, yet he let her ruin everything for me.

After Nora left, Lucian stood behind, alone for a moment-until his Beta emerged from the trees, his forehead wrinkled in anxiety,

“Did you really let her mark you?" Rolan growled, “And you didn't bite her back?"

Lucian replied in a soft voice, like it was nothing. "She wanted it this way."

"She's not even your mate, Alpha," Roland hissed, brows furrowed. "You're not thinking straight. You're the Alpha of Shadow Pack, and you let an ordinary wolf claim you without letting you own her.”

"I don't need to claim her." Lucian replied, “I’m his. That's all that matters.”

  • He Recognized My Worth After I Was Gone   Chapter 11

Isadora's POVThe silence of the northern woods was the only thing that had ever truly belonged to me. It didn’t demand my silence; it simply shared it.I stood by the wooden table, my fingers stained green and brown with the bitter mountain roots I had spent the afternoon grinding. Then the quiet shattered. The thundering of hundreds of heavy hooves vibrated through the floorboards. Iron armor clanked, horses neighed into the freezing air, and the sheer, suffocating pressure of a High Alpha’s aura washed over the cottage. My heart did not leap with hope. It sank into a cold, hollow pit.The heavy oak door swung open, framing the winter storm outside and the figure standing on the threshold.Lucian.He wore the dark, shadow-gold armor of the realm’s supreme ruler. His dark hair was windblown, his breathing ragged, and his eyes were wide with a frantic, wild energy."Lucian," I said quietly, the sound of his name feeling foreign on my tongue. "Why are you here?"He took a step into the

The silence that followed was heavier than the shadow-gold blade at my hip.Nora flinched as if struck, her outstretched hand freezing mid-air. "Lucian... please," she whimpered, the smooth coaxing tone falling apart into sheer panic. "I was deceived! Isadora lied to me! She made me think—""You dare utter her name?" My voice vibrated with a low, primeval growl that brought the surrounding nobles to their knees, their hands covering their ears in agony.I stepped past her, ignoring her desperate, trembling figure, and knelt in the dust. My fingers gently brushed away the dirt from the ancient crest etched into the shadow-gold ring before picking it up. I pocketed it, my gaze locking onto Nora with a coldness that made her shrink back."Three years," I said softly, every word heavy with the weight of my past foolishness. "For three years, you forced the savior of my bloodline to sleep in the servants' quarters. You took her mother's only legacy, the silver pendant, and burned it in the

"Charade?" I took a step forward, holding out the crushed velvet box in my palm. The ancient shadow-gold ring inside glinted under the sun, etched with the holy crest of my lineage. "It is no charade, Nora. For three years, I had been sneaking out to meet you, to watch you. Today, I stand before you without any duty holding me back. I have come to offer you my heart."For a second, total silence gripped the courtyard. Then, Nora let out a harsh, screeching laugh."Are you insane?" She stepped back, looking at me with absolute contempt, her lip curling in revulsion. "Your heart? You are a lowly, nameless guard who spent three years running after my every whim like a desperate street cur! Do you think putting on a velvet cloak and bringing a few hired mercenaries makes you royalty? Your heart doesn't even compare to the dirt beneath my heels""Nora—""Shut your mouth!" she screamed, her cheeks flushing red with humiliated rage as she looked around at the murmuring noble crowd. "You pathe

Later that night, my beta, Rolan, showed up in my quarter. His chest heaving, his dark eyes ablaze with a fierce, unstable anger. As my Beta and closest confidant from our home realm, he had accompanied me into this territory under the guise of a loyal lower-ranking warrior. But tonight, he looked ready to tear the palace apart with his bare hands."Have you completely lost your mind, Lucian?" Rolan’s voice was a low, dangerous growl, tight with suppressed rage as he stepped into the room and shoved the door shut behind him. "A pet? She called you a dangerous pet! In front of half the noble bloodlines in this territory!"I didn’t move. I remained seated on the edge of the narrow cot, my fingers lightly tracing the sharp edge of the star-engraved dagger resting across my lap."Lower your voice, Rolan," I said evenly."Lower my voice?" Rolan stormed forward, his boots heavy on the stone floor. "I watched that arrogant she-wolf throw the dagger you forged in the dragon-fire onto a plate o

The moment Nora left, I sank to my knees holding my head in confusion. What was wrong with me? Nora was right. That was what I always wanted. To be closer to Nora. Then why was I suddenly feeling this mad? Why was Isadora’s absence affecting me this much?“Nora…” I chased after her. “I… I’m sorry. The shift… it was so sudden that it got on my head. I’m really happy to be your shadow guard.”“No worries…” Nora replied, a sweet and innocent smile touching her lips. “I knew you would be more than glad to serve me instead of that Isadora! In fact, I have already announced a celebration tonight. Pick me up on time. This time we will be entering together!”“Sure…” I replied.***The royal hall was blinding. Crystal chandeliers dripped with light, reflecting off the silk dresses and gilded armor of the pack’s highest noble families.I stood two paces behind Nora’s chair, rigid, my hand resting heavily on the pommel of my longsword. This was what I had bled for.Nora was the she-wolf foretol

  • He Recognized My Worth After I Was Gone   Chapter 6

Lucian’s POVThe silence in her empty quarters was louder than any roar of battle.I stayed on my knees, my fingers pinned to the stone floor by the sheer weight of the air. It smelled like nothing. No lingering trace of winter jasmine, no heat of her anger, no soft warmth of her presence. Just a sterile, freezing draft sweeping through the open window.Do not look for me.My wolf thrashed inside my chest, clawing at my ribs in a sudden, frantic panic that made my throat tighten until I couldn't breathe. The dark magic of the Whispering Woods was still sloshing through my blood, burning my veins, but the pain in my chest felt infinitely worse."Lucian!"Heavy footfalls echoed down the corridor, followed by the rustle of fine silk. Nora stepped into the doorway, her chest heaving slightly from chasing after me. She paused at the threshold, her eyes scanning the stripped bed, the bare wardrobe, and finally landing on me, kneeling on the rug like a broken man.A long, slow smile spread a
