Chapter 5

Author: Bagel
The agent's words made my mind go completely blank. I even thought it was a prank call.

I had personally gone to the Pack Council to register the territory of the Starfall Lake Resort. How could the owner suddenly become Serena!

Sensing my silence, the agent sighed helplessly and forwarded the digital deed transfer to my email.

I clicked open the document. The dense legal clauses made my eyes sting, but I still managed to instantly catch my own familiar signature.

My whole body stiffened. I searched through all my memories but couldn't recall when I had ever signed this transfer agreement.

It wasn't until my eyes landed on the date that the memory flooded my brain like an explosion.

It was the night before Serena's coming-of-age ceremony. Felix had suddenly handed me a thick stack of documents.

"Nova, these are the applications for tax exemptions and border defense upgrades for the resort. They need your consent as the co-owner. Just sign here for me."

I was busy processing a batch of film negatives I had just shot. I didn't even look up, assuming it was the boundary defense planning he had mentioned adding to Starfall Lake.

Because it was Felix, I signed my name without hesitation.

I never expected my trust in him would be met with such cold calculation.

It turned out he had tricked me into signing a contract, giving up my joint ownership and transferring the territory to Serena for free.

The next day at Serena's coming-of-age ceremony, I even wondered why Felix hadn't prepared a massive gift. He usually spoiled her rotten, so it was completely out of character.

But when I asked, Felix just rubbed his chin against my neck and chuckled. "You already gave her one. What's yours is mine. We don't need to be so formal."

Back then, I naively thought he was finally planning to keep his distance from his sister. I happily let my gift count as a gesture from both of us.

But I forgot that Felix could never change. In his heart, Serena would always come first.

So when he said he already gave her one, he really meant it. He didn't put his name on my gift. He took my life's work and my savings and handed them over to her on a silver platter.

I stared at the cold clauses on the screen, every ounce of strength draining from my body.

I used to be so infatuated with his sharp negotiation skills as an Alpha, but I never imagined he would use those very same skills against me.

To prove she wasn't lying, the agent on the phone was still detailing the specifics of when Felix processed the transfer that day.

Every single word felt like a silver needle piercing my eardrums. I swallowed hard against my tight throat.

"Fine. I understand. I'll talk to the current owner."

After hanging up, I slammed on the gas pedal and sped straight toward the Pack headquarters.

Ignoring the shocked looks of the staff at the entrance, I kicked open the door to the Alpha's office.

But I never expected that the moment the door bounced open, I would see two people tightly embracing each other. Their scents were intimately intertwined.

Felix almost instinctively pulled her behind him, taking a protective stance. The movement was so practiced that it looked like it had been rehearsed a thousand times.

Seeing the fleeting guarded look in his eyes, my heart seized violently.

Just how crazy did Felix think I was? For him to assume I would hurt Serena the second he saw me.

I scoffed coldly and looked away, not even bothering to question him. I just slammed my phone onto his desk, displaying the digital contract.

"Felix, give me an explanation."

He clearly didn't expect me to come for this. He frowned, picking up the phone in confusion.

After seeing what it was, he actually let out a sigh of relief and spoke dismissively.

"Is that what this is about, Nova? We're Serena's only family. What does it matter whose name the resort is under?"

"Besides, didn't I let you look over it back then? You signed it yourself. Serena's coming of age is a big deal. A defenseless girl needs a property to rely on. What exactly are you mad about this time?"

Felix furrowed his brows and looked at me in confusion. He looked exactly the same as he had every time Serena was involved over the past seven years.

He would never understand why these little things broke my heart, and he didn't understand where my emotions came from.

He could never see his own bottomless favoritism, much less care about my pain of being ignored.

My hands clenched into tight fists by my sides, yet I didn't feel a trace of pain.

He felt that his sister needed a property to rely on. But did he forget that I was also a mate who needed a sense of security?

That land at Starfall Lake wasn't just any random territory.

That resort wasn't just some barren wasteland we bought on a whim. It was the sacred place I had joyfully prepared for our honeymoon and vacations after our bonding ceremony.

I took a deep breath and stared unblinkingly at Felix. The longer I looked, the more unfamiliar the face in front of me became.

We really weren't like this in the beginning.

Serena always clung to him back then too, but Felix wasn't like this.

While he was used to taking care of Serena and always giving her the best, he never forgot about me.

During the winter photoshoot, he held onto my wrist desperately at the edge of the cliff and refused to let go.

When our camp was attacked, he pressed me into his arms and used his back to shield me from falling rocks.

On nights when I was terrified of lightning, he would sit with me under the stars all night.

But I didn't know exactly when his eyes only had room for Serena.

And as the future Luna, I was supposed to be generous enough to step back at every turn. Even if it meant giving up my fated mate, my savings, and my territory.

I gave a bitter smile, feeling that fighting over who owned this land was nothing but a joke.

I just wanted to leave this office as fast as possible. I wanted to get away from these two people who constantly suffocated me.

"Felix, I'm not throwing a fit."

"Since you think she needs the resort to rely on, I don't want the land anymore. Buy out my half of the investment and wire me the money. Two million dollars, as soon as possible."

Relief flooded my chest. I unzipped the tent, grabbed Rowan's hand, and we sprinted into the blinding snow. The rogues quickly recovered from the Alpha command and chased after us. In seconds, they were snapping at our heels.Rowan squeezed my hand tight, pulling me faster."Don't look back! Keep running!"I nodded. My lungs burned like fire, but I forced my heavy legs to keep moving.Suddenly, my boot caught on a hidden ice ridge, and I went down hard. Before I could scramble up, a rogue lunged for my throat.Rowan reacted instantly, violently yanking me behind him. But as he did, another leaping rogue sank its teeth into his exposed side.Ignoring the blood, Rowan shifted into his massive wolf form to fend them off, roaring at me to climb the nearest pine tree. But a tide of glowing eyes blocked my path. I was forced backward, completely cut off from the tree.I kept inching backward. Finally, my fingers brushed against the rough bark of a trunk. But just as I turned to climb, I hear

I turned on my heel and walked away, determined not to let him touch me again.I wasn't going to cry over him again, and I definitely wasn't making the same mistake twice. But Felix just blindly followed right behind me."Nova, please. I never gave her a sample for that test. I sat in the clinic and then I walked out. I swear! I regretted it the moment I left your room.""It's okay if you hate me. I'll just stay out here with you. I'll follow you until you're ready to come home."His desperate, obsessive words only made my blood run cold.I whipped around to scream at him to back off. But before I could, one of the camp scouts came running out of the storm, screaming."Run! We're under attack! A massive pack of rogues is coming, and they have silver weapons! Grab the hard drives if you can, but run!"The peaceful camp instantly exploded into chaos. Horrifying howls echoed through the wind. They weren't regular wolves; they were feral rogues stuck in half-shifts. And they sounded comple

"Nova, take a break. We probably won't catch the center of the storm today. Let's rest and head back to camp."I waved him off, my eyes never leaving the weather monitor.I had been in the northern wilderness for over a year. Filming in this frozen tundra was brutal. We barely had any usable footage, and a few crew members had almost been mauled by wild animals. Many people had simply quit out of fear, packing up overnight and fleeing back to civilization.Right now, there were fewer than twenty people left on the ice, which was nothing for a professional film crew. But we still hadn't given up. We kept the cameras rolling with our frozen fingers.A thermos of hot tea appeared next to me. The faint, comforting scent of pine needles drifted over, making my ears turn a bit red."Drink something hot. I'll watch the screen for you."I murmured a thanks and gave him my seat. Just as I was about to step away, he grabbed the hem of my coat."Nova, I'm just an amateur. If you don't stay here a

The warden lazily twirled a remote in his hand."Don't worry. It's just some mild shock therapy to help with the Wolfsbane detox. It won't kill her. Our main goal is breaking the patient's delusions."Hearing this, Felix actually felt relieved. He leaned down and, just like he used to do, gently patted the top of Serena's head."Be good, Serena. Do the treatment. Once your system is clean, I'll come get you. I kept that little apartment I rented for you in town, but Nova and I are moving to the Starfall Lake resort. You don't mind, do you?"If this were the past, Serena would have thrown a tantrum and cried. But right now, she had no power to fight back.Terrified of the silver cuffs, she nodded frantically. "Felix, I don't mind! I can move far away, I won't bother you and Nova! Just please don't leave me here, okay? It's me, Serena. You raised me! You can't leave me behind!"The same sweet tone, the same desperate words. But this time, Felix felt absolutely nothing. He pushed her slig

Serena lunged up like a madwoman, trying to kiss him. He jerked back in disgust, but she pressed forward.Felix had no idea an Omega could have this kind of strength. In his eyes, his sister had always been so fragile that a strong wind could knock her over. Her hot breath, heavy with lust, hit the side of his neck. He instantly snapped back to reality and shoved her away hard."Enough, Serena! I'm your brother!"Felix's low growl was laced with Alpha command. But the heavy pressure did absolutely nothing to stop the crazed Omega. She wiped the fake tears from her cheeks, a sick, obsessive smile spreading across her face."Felix, doesn't it feel ridiculous when you try to play the 'brother' card on me?""We don't share a single drop of blood. You're not my brother.""Why are you acting so high and mighty now? Haven't you wanted me this whole time? If you didn't, why did you let me kiss you? Why did you let me wear the Luna ring, let me wear her dresses, and put my name on her Starfall

Felix's ears rang, and the world seemed to go quiet.A terrifying thought slammed into him. Without another word to the priest, he hung up and dialed Nova's number.Less than a day had passed. But the phone didn't ring. Instead, he heard a cold, automated voice: "We're sorry, the number you have dialed has been disconnected."Felix's breath hitched, his eyes losing focus. With trembling fingers, he found Maya's number and dialed it again and again. She hung up on him every time, until she finally just blocked his number. His frantic mind-link requests slammed against a thick mental wall, unread and unanswered.Absolute panic gripped his heart. He had truly lost his fated mate.He shook his head wildly, rejecting the thought. Impossible! It couldn't be true!Nova was just angry with him. She would never abandon her Alpha! If the ceremony was canceled, they could reschedule it. If she was angry, he would just win her back. They had seven years together. How could she just sever their bon
