Milo did not want to apologize to Lena.

He stood outside Beaumont Corp at 8:55 AM holding two coffees, wearing Lucien's blue shirt again. The same one he made Lucien wear yesterday.

Lena was at her desk. Back. Sharp bob. Sharp eyes. She looked up when Milo came in.

"Lucien told me you have something to say to me," she said.

Milo put one coffee on her desk.

"I bought you coffee," he said.

Lena stared at the coffee.

"It's not poisoned," Milo added.

"Milo."

"Okay, okay." Milo sighed. He had practiced this in the car with Lucien. "I'm sorry I texted you from Lucien's phone and told you to take the day off. It was... not professional."

Lena raised an eyebrow. "And?"

"And I'm sorry I told Alex he would be sent to New Jersey."

"And?"

Milo clenched his fists. This was harder than he thought.

"And... I'm sorry I sat in Lucien's chair all day," he mumbled.

Lena finally took the coffee. She sipped it.

"Thank you," she said.

Milo thought it was over. He turned to go to Lucien's office.

"But," Lena said, stopping him. "One condition."

Milo turned back slowly. "What?"

"If you're going to be here, you work. You don't just sit on his lap. You want to own him? Fine. But you have to learn how his world works. Otherwise you'll ruin him."

Milo blinked. "Work? Like... a job?"

"Like an assistant. For today. You will sit at the spare desk and you will sort the Tokyo investor files you almost made us lose. You will not interrupt meetings. You will not delete contacts. You will watch and learn."

Milo hated the idea of working. He was a photographer. He didn't do files.

But then he thought about Lucien. About Tokyo. About that dinner worth probably millions that he canceled because he was jealous.

"...Okay," Milo said. "One day. I will work one day."

Lena smiled for the first time. "Good boy."

Milo froze. "Don't call me that. Only he calls me that."

Lena laughed. "Possessive to the end."

Lucien came out of his office at that moment. He saw Milo at the spare desk, actually sorting files, wearing his blue shirt, looking miserable but trying.

He walked over and put a hand on Milo's shoulder.

"What is this?" Lucien whispered.

"I'm working," Milo whispered back. "Lena is making me work as punishment."

"You're doing files?"

"I'm trying! These are so boring. Why do you have so many numbers?"

Lucien tried not to laugh.

"You don't have to—"

"I want to," Milo said, and he meant it. "I want to know your world. So I can own it better."

Lucien squeezed his shoulder.

At 6 PM, Lucien had a charity gala. Black tie. Important people. Press.

He had never taken Milo to a public event before.

"You want to come?" he asked, while Milo was still sorting the last file.

Milo looked up. "To the gala?"

"As my boyfriend. Not as my secret. As mine."

Milo stood up so fast he knocked the files over.

"Yes!"

Lena watched from her desk and rolled her eyes, but she was smiling.

The gala was at The Pierre. Gold lights. Red carpet. Cameras.

Milo wore black. Tight black suit, no tie, his lip piercing shining, his hair messy on purpose. He looked like a rockstar next to Lucien's perfect CEO in black tie.

Lucien was nervous. He never got nervous.

"You okay?" Milo asked in the car.

"I've never... brought a boyfriend to something like this," Lucien admitted.

Milo took his hand. His nails were painted black tonight.

"You don't have to say boyfriend if you don't want to," Milo said, suddenly small. "You can say friend. I know I'm—"

"Mine," Lucien interrupted. He looked at Milo. "I'm going to say mine."

Milo's eyes went wide.

They walked in together.

The cameras went crazy. Whispers everywhere.

Is that Lucien Beaumont's boyfriend?

He's so young.

He's pretty.

Milo clung to Lucien's arm. Not because he was scared. Because he wanted everyone to see.

A reporter came up. "Mr. Beaumont! Who is this?"

Lucien looked down at Milo. Milo looked up at him.

Lucien put his arm around Milo's waist and pulled him close.

"This is Milo Chen," he said, voice clear. Loud enough for the cameras. "He's mine."

Milo's whole face turned red.

The cameras flashed.

Milo turned to the reporter, his arm around Lucien now, possessive even on the red carpet.

"Yeah," Milo said, chin up. "He's mine. So don't get any ideas."

The reporter laughed, thinking it was a joke.

Lucien didn't laugh. He looked at Milo like Milo had just given him the whole world.

Later, in the bathroom, away from the cameras, Milo pushed Lucien against the marble wall.

"You said I'm yours in front of everyone," Milo whispered, eyes bright and crazy and in love.

"I did," Lucien said.

"Say it again. Just for me."

Lucien leaned down, lips against Milo's ear.

"You're mine, Milo. And I'm yours. We're each other's. That's it. That's the whole story."

Milo kissed him hard, not caring about the cameras outside, not caring about Lena, or Alex, or Tokyo investors.

He had what he wanted.

Lucien said he was his. In public. In front of everyone.

And no one could take that away now.
