I held my cane tighter, feeling the cool metal in my hand as I stood outside the ReyCorp Foundation meeting room. Through the partly open door, I could hear Alejandro Vega talking confidently about the children's hospital, my hospital. My dream. My legacy.

"As you can see, the children's hospital east wing is almost done," he was saying. The sound of his voice carried clearly through the gap. "We've fixed the building problems from the first check, and I think we'll finish three weeks early."

The soft sounds of approval from the board members floated through the doorway. I took a deep breath, fixing my Alexander McQueen cream top and smoothing down my gray skirt. The doctors had been clear—avoid stress, stay away from arguments, rest. But I'd rested enough in that cold hospital room and at home, looking at blank walls while my husband and his lover thought they were taking apart my life's work bit by bit.

I heard Daniela's voice, sounding fake-worried. "Great timing, Mr. Vega. Though

"Here's the truth."I pulled out my phone and connected it to the wireless speaker Sofia had set up for me. The first recording began to play—Carlos's voice, clear as day, talking to Daniela about their plan to "break Emily down slowly."The reporters went completely silent. Cameras zoomed in on my face as Carlos's words filled the morning air:"She trusts too easily. Make her doubt herself first, then cut her off from her friends. Once she's alone and confused, she'll sign anything."Daniela's laugh followed, cruel and cold: "American women are so weak. Push a little, and they break."I let the recording play for thirty seconds before stopping it. "That was recorded six months before my car accident. Before I supposedly 'lost my mind' from trauma. They were planning this destruction from the beginning."A reporter called out, "Mrs. Reyes, where did these recordings come from?""My stepson's bedroom. Mateo lived with this hatred every day. A ten-year-old boy, forced to listen to adult

The video of Javier and Daniela burning documents spread everywhere within hours. By 8 AM, every major news station was running the story. By noon, the FBI had issued arrest warrants for both of them. But the real victory came when Sofia called me with news that made my heart race."Emily, you're not going to believe this. Judge Morrison just changed his ruling on your frozen accounts.""What? How?""The evidence destruction video scared him. He knows if he keeps supporting Javier now, he'll go down with him. Your money is unfrozen, starting right now."I sat down hard on my kitchen chair. After weeks of having no money to work with, I could finally breathe again. "All of it?""Every penny. Plus extra money for interest. Plus penalty money for wrongly freezing it." Sofia's voice was practically singing. "But there's more. Remember that emergency child protection law I mentioned?""Sort of.""When a pregnant woman is being threatened, she can ask to get protected inheritance money imme

The rain hit my car window like bullets as I drove toward the ocean. I didn't care that the road was wet and dangerous. I didn't care that my hands were shaking as I held the steering wheel. All I wanted was to get away from my house, away from the phones that kept ringing, away from all the legal papers that made my head hurt.Mentally incompetent. Those words kept playing in my head like a curse.I stopped my car at the same cliff where I had crashed months ago. The dark ocean spread out below me, angry under the storm clouds. The waves crashed against the rocks hard, just like the anger burning in my chest.I got out of the car and walked to the edge. The wind blew my hair across my face, and the rain soaked through my jacket in seconds. But I didn't move. I just stood there, looking down at the place where I almost died.Where maybe I should have died."What's the point?" I yelled at the ocean. The storm swallowed my voice. "What's the point of fighting when they just keep coming

The phone call to the Geneva fertility clinic was one of the hardest calls I ever made. My hands shook as I dialed the number."I need to talk to your security department," I told the woman who answered. "Someone has been using my name at your clinic.""I'm sorry, but we can't share patient information—""I am Emily Reyes. Someone else is pretending to be me, and I need to know what they're doing."Twenty minutes later, I was on a video call with Dr. Heinrich Mueller, the clinic's boss, and their head of security. The man's face looked serious and worried as he looked at files on his computer."Mrs. Reyes, we have a very big problem here. The woman using your name has been coming to our clinic for three weeks.""What has she been doing?""She said she needed fertility treatments for a difficult pregnancy. She brought what looked like real medical records from your American doctors. The records showed that you were pregnant with problems."My stomach felt sick. "What kind of problems?"

That night, we searched through my house like police looking for clues. The air felt heavy and strange, like someone had been watching us for weeks. Alejandro found the first listening device under the kitchen table. It was tiny, no bigger than a coin. Sofia found the second one in my office, stuck under my desk drawer."How long have they been listening to us?" I asked. The small devices sat in Sofia's hand like evil little spies."Maybe weeks. Maybe months." She dropped them into a glass of water. They made a fizzing sound and died. "They heard everything we talked about in this house."I sat down on the couch. I felt sick and angry. Someone had been listening to my private life. "Our plans, our secrets, our personal talks—""That's how they always knew what we were going to do," Alejandro said. His voice was dark and upset. "They weren't just lucky. They were cheating."I sat there feeling angry instead of scared. They wanted to play dirty games? Fine. I could play dirty too."Sofi

The phone call came at 6 AM. It woke me up from the first good sleep I'd had in days."Emily? This is Marcus Webb. I used to work for your husband."I sat up in bed, suddenly wide awake. The morning was still dark outside. Alejandro moved beside me. His eyes opened when he heard me take a sharp breath."I know who you are," I said carefully. Marcus had been Carlos's head of overseas business—the one who helped hide money in foreign banks. "What do you want?""To fix things. Can we meet? There's a lot you don't know about what's happening to you.""I won't meet with anyone who worked for Carlos.""Even if I can prove Javier Reyes isn't who he says he is?"My hand gripped the phone tighter. "What do you mean?""I mean, his real name is Javier Morales. And he's not Carlos's half-brother. He's Daniela's cousin."The room started spinning around me like a broken toy. "That can't be true.""One hour. The coffee shop on Fifth Street. Come alone, or I disappear forever."The line went dead. I
