Chapter 7

Author: Warm Flow
Lauren stared at him.

Jensen didn't want a child.

She always knew that.

Otherwise, she might have had one sometime in the past five years.

She stayed close to him, careful to please him in every way. She was gentle and obedient, hoping to become someone he could love.

But reality kept reminding her that hope was impossible.

"Get rid of the baby," Jensen said. "I'll arrange the procedure for tomorrow."

He didn't hesitate or ask what she wanted.

He sounded as though he were giving an employee a routine order.

"No."

Lauren always considered his feelings. This time, she refused to give way.

Her answer was firm.

Jensen stood beside her bed, his tall figure looming over her.

Lauren never refused him.

She didn't say no, even when she folded everything her parents left her into his family's company.

"I didn't realize Miles Stone’s return would make you so bold."

Jensen looked at her without expression.

His next words were cruel. "Lauren Sullivan, are you even sure this child is mine?"

Stone Group’s partnership with Jensen’s company came together too easily.

Before tonight, Miles never mentioned that he knew Lauren.

But everything he did at the reception suggested they were close.

Lauren’s face turned white. She looked at Jensen with a coldness he never saw in her before.

He told her countless times that he hated her.

To him, she repaid his help by treating their marriage as a bargain and trapping him in it.

She usually answered with a gentle smile.

She sometimes looked hurt, but she quickly composed herself and never troubled him with it.

Now her gaze felt unfamiliar.

Jensen felt a chill.

He forced the feeling down and held her gaze.

A moment later, he took out his phone and made a call. "Arrange the procedure immediately. The pregnancy ends today."

"No!"

Lauren’s heart sank.

She lunged for his phone and ended the call with trembling hands.

The phone fell to the floor, and its screen cracked.

He wasn't making an empty threat.

He truly didn't want their baby.

Footsteps sounded outside the room.

To Lauren, they sounded like someone coming to take her child.

"When I forced you to marry me..."

Lauren leaned against the head of the bed.

Pain kept her awake, and her voice came out hoarse. "I was wrong."

The room was quiet.

Even her faint voice sounded clear.

Jensen often imagined the day his cold treatment finally broke her and left her sobbing.

He never pictured this.

Tears kept falling down her face.

She wiped them away, but new tracks appeared.

"I was wrong," Lauren said through her tears.

Jensen stood still, unsure how to respond.

He should have been pleased.

Instead, his chest ached for no reason he could explain.

This wasn't how it was supposed to feel.

"Do you think a few tears and an apology can erase everything you did?"

Jensen spoke coldly. "They can't."

It sounded as though he needed to convince himself.

When he first came home five years ago, he had a girlfriend he loved and looked forward to his future.

Then, by chance, he saved Lauren after a car accident.

From that moment, his life changed completely.

She used the future of his family's company to demand that he marry her.

Five years passed.

Now she said she regretted it.

What right did she have to regret it?

"Do you... still love Vivian?" Lauren asked.

She always believed that if she worked hard enough, she could get what she wanted.

But love wasn't like success or wealth.

If she smiled at a stranger, they would usually smile back.

To Jensen, she was only a source of shame.

She was the person who disrupted his life, someone he believed should never have entered it.

Jensen’s anger flared. "You don't deserve to say her name."

He reacted that way whenever Lauren mentioned Vivian in the past.

Five years passed.

Five years passed, but his feelings for her never changed.

The only difference was that Jensen despised her more than he did five years ago.

"The baby has to go," Jensen said.

"He can't stay in this world."

Lauren wiped her tears.

Her pale lips parted, then closed again. "Let's end this, Jensen."

Her words hung in the air.

The room fell deathly quiet.

Jensen’s expression changed so sharply that he looked as though he suffered a terrible loss.

"I won't be Mrs. Shaw anymore."

Lauren’s heart felt as though it were tearing apart, but her voice sounded almost mechanical.

"I'll let you go. From now on, we can live as though we were never together."

More than a dozen people set the documents by the entrance. The stacks of property deeds and share certificates alone were enough to block the doorway.Lauren stared at Jensen. “Have you lost your mind?”“Yes.” Jensen nodded. “I caught it from you, and there’s no cure. We’re rich too.”“But half isn’t as good as all of it,” Quentin whispered. “Even a kid in grade school knows which one to choose.”Lauren was speechless.Perhaps she had made Quentin live too frugally for too long. Now the sight of all that money had stopped him in his tracks. The silence grew awkward. Then Jensen took Lauren’s right hand and dropped to one knee.Af

“Jensen, let go!” His grip made Lauren’s wrist ache. She frowned. “Let me go!”“No!” Jensen was furious. “It took me so long to find you...”His eyes were bloodshot, and his voice was hoarse. “You said you loved me. You said you wanted to spend your life with me! You made me what I am, Lauren. Now you think you can say the past doesn’t matter, leave me, and marry another man? I won’t let you!”Jensen had not slept in two days. He searched everywhere before finally finding her.And here she was, looking at wedding dresses with another man. Was she going to marry him?Lauren wrenched her wrist free and slapped Jensen. The sharp sound rang through the quiet boutique.“Jensen, are you finished?” she asked coldly. When they first met again, she thought they might be able to stay civil. By the time Jensen returned to the apartment building, it was dark.He knocked on Lauren’s door for a long time, but no one answered. She did not pick up his calls either. When he contacted the landlady, she told him, “Miss Sullivan ended her lease early.”Jensen panicked.Lauren was gone.Just as she had done before, she disappeared from his life without hesitation. He called on everyone he knew to find her. Finding information overseas took far longer than it would have in Cloudhaven. It was late at night before he heard anything. His assistant finished a call and approached Jensen, who had been sitting outside Lauren’s door the whole time. “Mr. Shaw, we found her. Mrs. Shaw took your son back to Cloudhaven.”“Cloudhaven?”Jensen’s voice was hoarse. Then he gave a sudden smile. “She’s still willing to go back there. That’s good.”His assistant asked cautiously, “If she’s returned to Cloudhaven, there may be questions about her shares in the group...”“I hope she comes to claim th
