Sylvia Pov
" H-hi.." I muttered, scratching my hair. He still wore the surprised look. " What are you doing here?" He asked me, but I was toi tongue-tied to reply. Did Alex just speak to me?? " She came to deliver a parcel." Hazel replied, then gazed at her brother, her brows scrunched up. " Are you going out?" " Um... Yes. " He replied, glancing at me. " But what about me? " She asked, pouting. " Mum's going to be home soon. Besides, you have the maids and nanny Patricia to keep you company. I won't take long, I promise." He said. " Whatever... She muttered and stomped out of the room. Alex sighed and shrugged. He then turned to me. " I-i have to go now. My mum's probably waiting for me." I began when I finally got a hold of myself, moving backwards. " Okay." Due to my nervousness, I bumped into one of the chairs on my way out. " Sorry." I whispered, my cheeks reddening. Alex chuckled, amused. I hurriedly snatched my bags and sprinted out of the room, mounting on my bicycle and speeding. If you saw me, you'd think something was chasing after me. Wow, what a splendid way to meet your crush.... Alex's P. O. V After pacifying hazel with apologies and lots of sweets, I made my way out of the house to Tasha. Yeah, she's my girlfriend. We got together sometime last summer and although I'm not exactly freaky about this relationship, it's a great way to pass the time. I rang the doorbell, and she opened it, all smiles. She immediately wrapped her hands around me, kissing me on the cheek. " You came! Was expecting you." She muttered. I rolled my eyes. " I told you I would." I said. We disengaged from the hug and she ordered me in. Sitting on the couch, I glanced around. " Where are your parents?" " My parents? They went out on a business trip." She replied. " Wow. When last did I see them like last month?? " " It's much easier to have snow in summer than to see my parents around. Always traveling, forgetting that they have a daughter." She said, adding the last bit rather sadly. For a second there, I felt kind of sorry for her. " Anyway, I'm here. So why'd you call me?" She beamed, her face radiating. " The house was awfully boring,, so I thought we could spend some time together. Plus, there's this new movie I thought we could watch together.... " And the rest, they say, is history.... Hours later, after watching the movie and doing a little chit chat, I made to leave. " Leaving so soon?" She complained. " Why don't we spend some more time together? " " I can't. I promised Hazel I'll read her bed time story tonight. " " Oh... I almost forgot. Hazel's there. " " She's my sister Tasha. Be nice. " " Whatever... " She mumbled but I heard it all the same. " Bye... Have a goodnight." I muttered, walking away when she stopped me. " So... I'm not going to get my goodnight kiss?" She asked, looking horrified. " Sorry, almost forgot." I went back and kissed her full on the lips. " Happy now? " "A little." She muttered, smiling sheepishly. I smiled and left, this time around, getting into my car and driving home.... When I arrived, Hazel had already slept and I made a mental note to read it for her tomorrow cause I know she'll be angry with me come morning. I was on my way to my room when I saw my mom on the balcony, staring into the night, lost in thought. On an impulse, I went over to see her. " Hey mom." I greeted when I got closer. She seemed startled but when she saw it was me, relaxed. " Hey there. You're already back. " " Yeah... Wanted to read Hazel her bedtime story. Apparently, she couldn't wait for that. " I said chuckling. " Yeah, she's really mad at you for not keeping your promise. I told her you'll read it for her tomorrow, come sun, come rain. " " I know that, right? " We laughed and lapsed into silence. " So why are you here..." I began, glancing. " Thinking? I hope it's not about 'him'? I asked, referring to my step dad. " Oh no, it's not about him. It's something else." " Okay... That's a relief. " I said. "What is about then?" " It's better if you don't know." She said instead, but her lips quivered. That instantly made me worried. " You know, you should learn to be nicer to Edward. He has good intentions, you know... And it's been years,I expected you to have softened up by now. You're still being hard on him and it's not fair." " I don't want to talk about that now." I replied, waving off the memories that came with talking about my stepdad. It reminded me of my real dad and I didn't like being reminded of him. " It's okay... I won't force you to." She said, sounding somewhat disappointed. " You should get some rest, to wake up early for school tomorrow." " Okay Mom. Have a goodnight. " " You too honey." I kissed her forehead and headed to my room. Having my night shower, I thought of what my mom said. What does she want to not know? I should ask my mom what's wrong. She looks really worried. I'll do that later, when she's ready to tell me. I laid my head to sleep that night but i couldn't. Memories that I buried a long time kept stirring up, replaying in my head. I pinned my eyes shut, but they still didn't go away. Oh well... Looks like this is going to be a long night.Sylvia's P. O. V I jumped on the bed, giggling excitedly. I had seen my crush twice today and even talked on both occasions, though the meetings were brief. What more could I ask for? Best day ever! But then I remembered Tasha threat's and my heart sank. I have to her closer to Patrick, so as to avoid being humiliated in front of everyone. How am I supposed to do that? He hardly even talks! Oh well, there's nothing I can do than wait it out. Sooner or later I'll have to admit that the love note was originally for her boyfriend Alex. Remembering Alex again, I placed my hands on my chin and smiled, all starry-eyed. Oh, my....... (Next day: school hours) The biology teacher wrote on the board, with everyone taking down notes. After some time, he stopped and turned towards us. " For your midterm test..." He began, closing his marker, " I'll be dividing you all into groups and each group will make a presentation of any topic you prefer, under the curriculum. "
. Tasha's P. O. V I stirred a bit, fluttering my eyes open afterwards. My eyes landed on Alex, who was still sleeping beside me. I straightened up a bit to watch his sleeping face, smiling to myself. Even though the whole stuff is unplanned and it still feels a little too soon, I know there's no other way I would've wanted it... Especially when Alex is involved. Alex soon stirred and snapped his eyes. Groaning as he stood up, he rubbed the back of his neck. " Hey..." He greeted hoarsely. I smiled. " Hi yourself.. " I replied. " What's the time?" He asked. I shrugged a bit and replied, " 7:34pm?" Once he heard that, he stared at me with a shocked expression on his face, his eyes widening. " Oh, shit!" He cussed underneath his breath. " I have to go..." He muttered, hurriedly picking up his clothes. " So quick? Why are you in such a hurry?" I asked, staring at him, bewildered. " You won't understand..." He said as he put on the lasts of his clothes.
Sylvia's P. O. V His laughter caused a million things to happen to his face, making him look even more breathtaking. I subconsciously placed his smiling face with Alex's and trust me, if everyone saw him like this, there would have been a stiff competition on who was the most handsome boy in Rocksville high. Sadly though, the look disappeared as quickly as it came. He immediately sobered up, and a frown replaced his once beautiful face. Frankly speaking, there's a good chance I might have forgotten what I came here for in the first place. Eventually, he stood up, planning to leave. Stopping midway, he turned. " I'll get back to you concerning the project." " H-how?" I found myself asking. " I don't know. I'll just get back to you." He said and left the library. I watched him leave and, brushing my bangs off my face, smiled to myself. Well... That wasn't so bad.... I headed home and once I walked in I met my mum in a rush but that's not
Sylvia's P. O. V " I... Um..." I stammered, shutting myself up. Tasha's glare remained. " I said, what are you doing here?" She asked again, her voice even meaner than before. I shivered slightly, unsure of what to say. " She came to babysit me." Hazel's voice rang through as she came to join me at the door. I breathed out in relief, grateful for the intervention. Tasha's glowering gaze lowered as she stared at the little girl who held my hand, smiling up at her. " I suppose you're right." She replied, her voice suddenly calm. Pushing me to the side and walking in, she glanced around. " Where's Alex?" she asked. " He's in his room." Hazel replied in that childlike voice of hers. " Thanks. I'll go up then. You guys have fun. "She said with a smile on her face which didn't reach her eyes as she glared menacingly at me. I'm pretty sure I get the point. Sashaying up the stairs, Hazel tugged at my fingers. " Let's go play." She called out, and I nodded.
. (Next day: at school) Sylvia's P. O. V I kept drumming my fingers on the table, distracted. Every time I remembered Tasha's threats, a shudder runs down my spine. But seriously though, why does she hate me that much? It's not like I did anything to her. The Bell soon rang for the end of class and without waiting for what the teacher had to say, we trooped out of class. I needed to see Patrick. I wanted to know if there's was any update concerning the project we had together. I found him at the library, his head buried in another book. I noticed there were some files neatly arranged before him. Suddenly nervous, I brushed my bangs off my face and dusted imaginary dusts from my clothes. Fixing a smile on my face, I called out to him. He raised his eyes and, glancing at me for a second before facing his book. I don't know why, but it kind of hurt my feelings. Is he ignoring everyone again? " What are those?" I asked after a long strained silence. He pushed
Tasha's P. O. V I stomped out to the garden, ruffling my hair. My blood was boiling, and it was so hard to calm down. " I can't believe it!...." I muttered, puffing. " Calm down Tasha. Maybe Alex didn't mean it." Linda tried to say but I brushed her off. " What do you mean he didn't mean it? Of course he did. Didn't you see the way he looked at me? Like I was some idiot?" I said, glaring at her. Linda played with her hair, looking away. " Oh God..." I muttered, trailing off. This just gives me more reason to hate that Sylvia girl more. And I promise myself that I'll do everything I can to get back at her. Everything.... Sylvia's P. O. V Standing at the door of the Jones house, I took in a deep breath. I already told my mom about the babysitting job I got and so far she seemed cool with it. Let's see how today goes. Pressing on the doorbell, I waited for a reply. Soon the door opened and the maid I had met earlier appeared. " Hell
(Presentation day) Patrick's P. O. V " No....no...NO!" I yelled from my sleep, panting. Shit, i was having a nightmare. Thank God, it felt so real. Taking in deep breaths to calm my jittering nerves, I ran my hands through my hair. Why would I have a nightmare of Sylvia dying in my hands? We've barely even talked the entire last week? " Maybe it's just my subconscious playing games with me." I muttered, dismissing the thought. I didn't sleep well last night. I couldn't stop thinking about New Jersey. Maybe that's why I had the nightmare. Glancing at the wall clock, I realized I had woken up a bit early. Since I can't go to sleep, there's nothing else to do than to prepare for school.... Sylvia's P. O. V The alarm bell rang, and I groaned, turning to another corner of the bed. Clicking on the snooze button, I snuggled deeper into the sheets, trying to catch a few minutes of sleep. " Sylvia, how many times have you pressed that snooze button?"
Patrick's P. O. VAfter some time waiting for the school to be slightly empty, I was on my way out of school when I heard a faint knock. Looking behind me, I realised there was no one behind me. Not thinking too much about it, I headed my way. It came again, this time a little fainter. Curious, I called out. " Is someone there?" No reply. I looked at the doors in the hallway. They were all closed. Surely this school isn't haunted, is it? Waving the thought off, I made to leave again, but something stopped me dead in the tracks. The nightmare I had came this morning came flashing through and my heart skipped a bit. Oh God, it better not be true. I turned back and started searching all the rooms. They were all empty till I got to the Janitor's closet, which was locked. I tried pushing, but it wouldn't budge. " Hello, is someone there?" I asked, knocking loudly. But who would lock it? The school isn't completely closed yet. Not taking it anymore, I forced the door open
