Chapter 114

THIRD PERSON POV

“Where’s the leak? Can someone confirm fuel?”

“Yes! The fuel tank’s ruptured!” a man from the crowd yelled.

One firefighter swore under his breath. “If this catches…”

“Then we all fry,” another muttered back.

The tension snapped like electricity through the gathered crowd. Mothers pulled their children further away, men shielded their wives, and in moments, the once-brave volunteers from the roadside had scrambled back, their courage drowned out by the threat of fire.

His eyes, sharp and burning with fury and fear, softened when they landed on her trembling face. “Who are you?”Elena swallowed hard. “My name is Elena Rivers. Your son… he is my friend, he saved my life. Not just once.” Her voice cracked but she steadied it. “If I walk away now, if I don’t try to save him, I’ll never be able to live with myself.”Matthew blinked at her, his chest heaving. “You… know him?”“Yes,” she said firmly, nodding. “I owe him my life. Please, let me do this.”The Commissioner hesitated, his eyes flicking between her and the wreck. The crowd murmured, the cameras leaned closer, catching every second of this strange, heartbreaking plea.“You’ll die if you go down there,” he said gruffly, his voice shaking for the first time.Elena took

I repeat, LUCIAN EVANS is trapped in a vehicle on the brink of explosion. Officials are on their way, but bystanders are asking the same chilling question, ‘can he be saved in time’?” The camera swung wildly, catching the panicked faces of civilians standing at a distance, their arms wrapped around one another, their lips moving in prayer. A mother clutched her daughter, whispering, “Don’t look, baby. Don’t look.” But the child peeked through her fingers anyway, eyes wide and wet. Another cameraman zoomed in on the car itself. The twisted metal frame glowed under the harsh floodlights, the faint rise and fall of Lucian’s chest visible through the cracked windshield. His face was bloodied,

Chapter 113THIRD PERSON POVAt first, there was silence after the accident. The kind of silence that follows disaster, a shocked hush that lingers in the air before human voices remember to cry out. The twisted car lay in the ditch like a wounded animal, its headlights flickering weakly. Steam rose from the crumpled hood, curling into the night sky. Then someone screamed.“Oh my God…… did you just see that? A car just went off the road!”Another voice cut through, trembling, panicked. “I… think… the car…it's…… it’s in the ditch! Somebody call for help! Hurry!”Within moments, people began gathering along the roadside. They were ordinary bystanders, late-night travelers, drivers who had pulled over after witnessing the screech of tires and the deafening crash, even a couple of joggers who had frozen mid-stride.A man in a baseball cap fumbled for his phone, his hands shaking so violently he nearly dropped it. “Nine-one-one, nine-one-one…” he muttered as he punched in the numbers. For a heartbeat, they looked less like a car and more like the sun itself had come crashing down on me, two furious orbs that bored into my skull. My heart lurched. My breath caught in my throat. My instincts screamed, Move!I jerked the wheel hard to the right. The tires shrieked in agony, rubber peeling against asphalt, the vibration tearing up through the steering column into my arms. The car didn’t glide, it screamed, the back end fishtailing, swinging out like a wild animal breaking its chains. My chest slammed against the seatbelt, the sharp edge digging brutally into my collarbone. My ribs rattled as the vehicle careened, teetering closer and closer to the edge of the road.“Come on, come on, come on…” I muttered, the words spilling out in a slur of desperation, as if my v
