LOGIN“What the hell are you doing?” Seara hissed, her body stiff in Austin’s warm hold.
“Making sure you don’t pass out,” Austin said easily, his crooked grin infuriating. “You looked like you were about to fall.”
“I’m fine. Let me go.” Seara squirmed, trying to break free.
“Mmm,” he hummed thoughtfully, but didn’t move an inch. If anything, he pulled her closer, lowering his face until his breath ghosted over her cheek.
Seara’s heart was pounding like crazy. She could smell him—the sharp, intoxicating scent of an Alpha wolf mixed with warmth and something raw, something that felt dangerous and safe all at once.
“Austin, let me—”
The kiss came out of nowhere.
Without warning, his lips claimed hers—soft, but full of certainty. For a heartbeat, Seara froze. Her mind screamed at her to shove him away, but her body betrayed her, melting into the moment. Seconds stretched, heavy and electric, as she let the kiss linger far longer than she should have.
Then reality slammed back. Shock and humiliation burned through her as she shoved at his chest with all her strength. “What the hell was that?”
Austin just laughed, one hand rubbing his chin like he’d won a prize. “Wow. No slap to the face? That’s what I call progress.”
“You’re insane!” Seara snapped, whipping her head away so he couldn’t see the heat flaming across her cheeks.
“Not completely insane. But I will be… if I don’t get to kiss you again.” His grin turned wicked. “And don’t even try to lie, Seara. I could taste your curiosity in that kiss. You didn’t hate it.”
Her cheeks burned hotter. She spun around, cursing under her breath. How could her own body betray her like that? She’d… she’d actually enjoyed it.
“You just took advantage of me,” she bit out.
“Damn right I did. I’m not the type to wait around when I know the other wolf wants it too.” His smirk was pure trouble.
“I don’t want you!” she shot back, glancing at him with a glare sharp enough to cut.
Austin let out a low whistle, leaning casually against a tree with his arms folded behind his head. “Guess I should apologize then… for kissing those soft, sweet lips that taste like ripe cherries.” He winked.
Seara snapped her head around. “You are shameless.”
“And you,” he drawled, “are really bad at hiding the fact that you liked it. But fine—let’s call it an emergency drill, yeah? A little life-saving exercise.”
“Life-saving?” Seara narrowed her eyes. “How the hell was that life-saving?”
“Well,” Austin said, pretending to think hard, “I was pretty sure you’d rip apart the next guy who touched you. But apparently, your lips had other plans—”
“Stop it, Alpha Austin!” Seara’s voice came out louder than she intended, her face burning like fire.
Austin only laughed harder.
Minutes ticked by, heavy with awkward silence and pounding heartbeats, before Austin finally spoke. “By the way, you should come with me.”
Seara turned, frowning. “Where?”
“To my pack lands.” His voice left no room for argument. “I was doing a solo patrol out here, hunting for rogues. You shouldn’t be in this forest alone. They could show up any second.”
“I can take care of myself,” she said flatly.
“No doubt.” Austin flashed a grin. “But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re prime prey for rogues. They can smell it—you don’t belong to anyone yet.”
“I don’t need your protection,” she snapped.
“Too bad,” Austin countered with a raised brow. “Because you’re getting it.”
“You can’t force me!”
Austin stepped closer, eyes sharp yet still laced with that damn teasing heat. “No, I can’t force you. But I’m not leaving until you agree.”
Seara opened her mouth to argue—when the forest shifted. Leaves rustled. The wind changed direction. And then… an unfamiliar scent sliced through the air.
Her instincts flared. Seara tensed, unconsciously edging closer to Austin.
He moved first, muscles locking tight. “Stay quiet.”
From the shadows of the brush, a massive gray wolf stepped out. Its glowing eyes burned with suspicion, lips peeled back just enough to flash sharp teeth.
Seara clutched Austin’s arm without thinking, her breath catching. The wolf radiated hostility, and for the first time tonight, fear clawed through her.
“Alex,” Austin said evenly, his voice calm but threaded with warning.
“Who the hell is she, Austin?” The wolf’s growl rumbled low and deadly.
“My Beta,” Austin murmured to Seara before speaking louder. “Stand down, Alex.”
The wolf snarled harder—and then lunged.
Seara screamed, eyes squeezing shut—
—but no teeth touched her skin. Instead, the air cracked with the sound of a vicious snarl and a body slamming into the earth.
When Seara dared to look, Austin was in front of her, standing like a wall. His body had partially shifted—eyes blazing gold, fangs glinting in the moonlight. Power radiated off him in waves, a crushing, invisible force that demanded obedience.
“Don’t. Touch. Her.” His voice was deep, guttural, shaking the ground beneath them.
Alex hesitated, then lowered himself, still growling low as he shifted back into human form—a tall, hard-faced man with short black hair and eyes sharp as blades.
“She’s not one of us,” Alex said coldly.
“And I’m your Alpha,” Austin snapped, his tone lethal. “If I say don’t touch her, you don’t. I know what I’m doing.”
Alex’s jaw flexed, but he said nothing—just stood there like a statue, his piercing glare never leaving Seara.
The chill of his hostility was suffocating, a sharp contrast to Austin’s reckless charm and easy smile.
Seara’s chest tightened. She looked at Austin—this infuriating, arrogant Alpha who had just shielded her with every ounce of dominance he possessed. Not because he had to… but because he wanted to.
“Why… why did you protect me?” she whispered.
Austin turned to her, his golden eyes fading back to warm green. No grin this time. No teasing. Just quiet certainty.
“Because I can. And because I want to.”
Seara bit her lip, her emotions spiraling. She hated that it made her heart stutter. Hated that it impressed her. But God help her, it did.
Austin had stolen a kiss earlier, had pushed every button she had… and yet, in this moment, she felt safe with him. Completely, undeniably safe.
Her mind kept flashing back to the heat of his mouth on hers, the way his breath had shivered across her skin, the look in his eyes when he kissed her—not playful, but… possessive. Real.
And worst of all? She liked it.
Damn it.
The harder she tried to fight it, the stronger it pulled her under. And when she looked at him now—at those steady green eyes, at the strength that wrapped around her like armor—something broke loose inside her. Something wild.
Seara needed certainty. Something to hold onto. She stepped closer, until she could feel his warmth, until her trembling hand rested flat against his chest, trying to calm her frantic heart.
[He’s your second chance, Seara.]
Austin stepped out with a towel draped loosely around his hips, letting droplets of water trail down his hard abdominal muscles. He ran his hand through his wet hair, gazing at Seara, who sat frozen on the edge of the bed.The girl looked as if she’d seen a ghost, her eyes fixed on Austin’s phone lying on the nightstand.“Austin,” Seara’s voice trembled slightly. “You’ve got a new message notification on your phone.”Austin merely glanced at the flat device without interest. “Ignore it. It’s probably just Alex reporting another broken fence caused by some rogue.”“It’s not Alex. It’s from an unknown number,” Seara continued, trying to steady her breathing. “There’s a photo. An old photo.”Austin moved closer, but instead of picking up the phone, he knelt between Seara’s legs. He took her hand and gently kissed the palm of her hand.“The world could explode right now and I wouldn’t care, Seara. I just almost lost you because of a silly misunderstanding.”Without looking at the screen,
Arach’s voice in Seara’s mind sounded like the growl of a broken machine. The Lycan hadn’t stopped howling in protest since Seara began tossing a few pieces of clothing into her worn backpack.[Seara, stop! Are you crazy? Austin is our mate. If you leave now, this bond will torment us both.] Arach snapped in a highly emotional tone.“I don’t care, Arach! You saw that vision yourself. The Wolfe family slaughtered my mother. I’m sharing a bed with the son of my family’s murderer!” Seara snatched the emergency potion bottle and stuffed it into her bag with trembling hands.[It’s just a blurry vision! Don’t let your fear ruin everything. I don’t want to be far from him. His scent… I need his scent!]“Enough!” Seara closed her eyes tightly. With the last of her inner strength, she imagined a thick concrete wall separating her consciousness from Arach’s.She blocked her internal connection with Arach. Instantly, the atmosphere in her head went silent, though a stinging sensation lingered in
Lionra recounted every detail of the vision he had shared with Seara, leaving nothing out. Once he was finished, he studied the Alpha’s expression.Austin’s brow was deeply furrowed, his face slightly pale as if his brain cells were being forced to work overtime to process the information.“Are you sure about that vision, Lionra?” Austin massaged his temples, which had begun to throb.Lionra touched his crystal ball, which no longer glowed, its surface felt cold beneath his fingers. “I’m not lying, Alpha. In fact, Seara’s expression was even more tense than yours. Too bad she didn’t say a word after seeing that.”Austin was just as surprised as Seara. The Lionra he knew always gave divinations with nearly 90 percent accuracy. He still clearly remembered when Lionra told him to patrol the forest and predicted that he would soon meet his mate.At the time, Austin was immediately excited. He waited nearly five hours just to find out what his future mate would be like.In reality, the pre
Seara was feeling hungry after their “morning workout.” In front of her, fried bacon and strong black coffee had been served by the Omegas Austin had specifically asked to bring breakfast to her room.Austin sat with his legs crossed, tearing into his whole-wheat bread with an annoyingly casual air. Beside him, Seara struggled to focus her attention on her bowl of porridge, even though the heat in her neck and cheeks hadn’t subsided yet.“You know, Seara,” Austin broke the silence with a low tone laced with teasing. “I didn’t expect a Healer like you to have such a… let’s say, very ‘enthusiastic’ side in the morning. Your wolf, Arach, seemed to be in high spirits earlier.”Seara choked on a piece of strawberry. She pretended to be fascinated by the grain of the wooden tablecloth, desperately trying not to be distracted by Austin’s teasing, which usually made her stomach flutter.“If only you’d been docile from the start, I wouldn’t have had to work so hard to hold back,” Austin said a
Seara had just woken up. Beside her, Austin was still fast asleep. His breathing was steady, a far cry from the image of the hot-tempered Alpha who had smashed down the door with a single blow the day before. Seara fell silent, studying Austin’s chiseled yet serene features as he slept.A strange sensation pulsed at the nape of her neck from the permanent bite mark that now bound her soul to this man. Through that bond, Seara could feel Austin’s calm, steady heartbeat.Despite his often flamboyant, narcissistic, and infuriating demeanor, Austin had proven himself a protector. A sense of pride crept into Seara’s chest, the Alpha Lycanisius had marked her as his absolute possession.Seara tried to move slowly so as not to disturb Austin’s sleep. However, a loud knock on the door shattered the morning’s silence.“Alpha? Sorry to disturb you, but I have something I need to tell you,” the Alpha’s Beta’s voice sounded hesitant from behind the door.Seara glanced at Austin, who only let out
Austin’s rage erupted in a wave of pressure that made the oxygen feel thin. His bright golden eyes locked onto Nolan’s arms, which were only tightening further around Seara’s body.“I’m tired of warning you, Nolan.” Austin’s voice grew more menacing.Austin’s body cracked; his bones snapped and snapped back together in a matter of seconds as he transformed into a giant Lycan.Nolan didn’t stand idly by. He released Seara, but instead of backing down, he accepted the challenge. Gray fur grew rapidly from the pores of his skin. In an instant, the two apex predators faced off in the cramped meditation room.“Come out! We’ll settle this tonight,” Austin roared menacingly.“Good, because I won’t back down from you,” Nolan replied.Without waiting for a response, Austin charged. Nolan dodged, but Austin’s claws managed to tear through the stone wall, sending sparks flying. Both leaped through the tall window leading directly to the open field behind the pavilion. The ear-splitting sound of
The warrior wolves walked at the front of the line, while Seara walked in front of Austin with Nolan, her steps much calmer than when they had departed. In front of Seara, five young she-wolves who had just been rescued walked with trembling bodies, wrapped in spare cloaks belonging to the Hunters.
Seara walked behind Austin, staring at the man's stiff, rigid back. Every step Austin took exuded an authority that was suffocating to her.Beside her, Nolan was still trying to lighten the mood with his lighthearted chatter, even though the tension in the air was impossible to hide."You know, Sea
The aftermath of the storm left the ground wet and muddy when the group arrived at the outskirts of Rain Hill Village.Austin ordered one Hunter Lycan to infiltrate the village, while he and the other lycans rested by the river.Seara opened her rain-soaked supply bag as she calmed Austin down. She
Seara tried to get up, but she only had enough strength to lift her head.Austin heard Delcy calling him. The excited voices of Delcy's friends watching them from the edge of the pool did not deter Austin from lifting Seara."Let's go back. The fun is over." Austin looked around them. Some of the w
