Chapter 38

Slipping into Wyatt's bedroom I pulled on my underwear and folded the leggings, putting them on the chair. I tested my sneakers, still squishy with water I sighed. My body was clean but my feet were filthy. Brushing my hair out and french braiding it around the back and to the side I forced myself to look at my gaunt face in the mirror. It was worse than when I had left New Orleans, those three days had physically sapped me. The dark puffy half-moons under my eyes, I was used to. The dress hung more loosely than before, and the angles of my face were sharper. My eyes however had a silver light cast within the greens and blues of my irises faint but unearthly like the light of the chi in my chest watched through my very own eyes. It usually only did this when it was raging. It seemed that if I ever went out into public again I’d be one of those people wearing sunglasses inside.
