Chapter 10

Author: Eternity
Knock! Knock! Knock!

The next morning, urgent knocks were heard at the door when Theodore was in the midst of a crucial moment in his cultivation.

Liliana was startled awake. She hurried to open the door and saw Austin standing outside with an anxious expression.

"Where's your brother?" Austin asked.

"Theodore is cultivating inside. Uncle Austin, what's—"

Though Liliana was still young, seeing his grave expression sent a wave of unease through her.

Austin rushed inside and said, "Hurry up! You guys need to leave immediately!"

"Uncle Austin, what's going on?" Liliana chased after him and asked.

"There's no time for questions! It'll be too late if you don't leave now!"

Austin entered the room and found Theodore seated cross-legged on the bed with his eyes closed.

"Theodore—"

Theodore's brows twitched slightly before he slowly opened his eyes. Austin found it hard to meet his eyes. Although he was only eighteen, his gaze belonged to someone who had experienced a great deal in life.

Last night, Theodore had learned everything from the sixty years of memories. Besides, he had fully fused the sliver of sword intent he had grasped over the past thirteen years into the Sword Orb.

He could feel the Sword Orb's presence within his energy core. It was wrapped in a blazing internal energy.

Although he couldn't wield the Sword Orb's full power, he could still tap into a fraction of it. That fraction alone was enough to crush all of Philodorah.

"Theodore, take Liliana and go now!" Austin felt that something was off, but there was no time to dwell on it.

"What exactly is happening?" Theodore asked calmly.

"Stop asking questions! There isn't enough—"

"Please be honest with me, Uncle Austin," Theodore said firmly.

Austin had no choice but to explain. "The Boltons have found out that you killed Sebastian. They've come for revenge!"

"Is their patriarch, Richard Bolton, here?" Theodore asked.

"No, he's not here, but his eldest son, Harold, is here!" Austin's voice was tense. "He has already stepped into the Innate Realm! And, he didn't come alone. There are three Postnatal Grandmasters with him, along with the Boltons' guards!"

"Harold!" Theodore could never forget that name. It was the Boltons who led the charge in oppressing the Yardleys.

At that time, Harold was only a first-class cultivator while Theodore's father was already half a step into the Postnatal Realm. He nearly overpowered Harold. However, Richard suddenly intervened during their duel. He landed a devastating blow on Theodore's father.

That strike turned the tide. Harold seized the moment and killed Theodore's father right at the gates of the Yardley Manor.

At the time, Theodore's mother was pregnant. Upon hearing of her husband's death, she gave birth to Liliana and passed away soon after.

Theodore remained calm on the outside when he heard Harold's name, but a surge of killing intent was brewing within him.

"Perfect timing!"

"Theodore, what are you planning to do? Harold is an Innate Grandmaster! Take Liliana and leave at once! It’ll be too late if you wait any longer. You're the Yardleys' last hope. Come back and avenge us when you reach the Innate Realm!" Austin’s eyes were red when he said that.

"I heard the word avenge," a commanding voice was heard from the outside. "It's too late for that. You killed my son, so you'll pay with your life today!"

"We're doomed," Austin said, his face turning ashen.

Theodore stepped outside and saw a group of people approaching his room. They were led by a middle-aged man dressed in purple; he had an imposing presence. He was Harold Bolton—the eldest son of the Boltons and Sebastian's father.

He was dragging a bloodied figure with him. It was Anthony.

Behind him stood a dozen of his guards, including three Postnatal Grandmasters. Carson was among them.

"That's Theodore," Carson pointed at him. "The Seraphic Swordplay is in his possession. Mr. Harold, please spare our lives in light of our cooperation in handing over the sword technique."

Harold tossed Anthony aside and strode forward while scrutinizing Theodore from head to toe. He clicked his tongue in amusement and said, "You look just like him. If I hadn't killed him, I would have thought that Aaron Yardley had crawled out of his grave."

Theodore's hands trembled upon hearing the name "Aaron Yardley", his eyes burning with murderous intent. That was his father's name.

"I remember you," Theodore said coldly.

"You have a good memory. I should have killed you back then. If I had, my son wouldn't have died at your hands."

Harold then took a step forward.

A surge of overwhelming internal energy burst from his body; one could almost see its form. This was the power of an Innate Grandmaster.

The sheer pressure made everyone present feel as though a massive rock had settled on their chests. It was suffocating.

"Hand over the Seraphic Swordplay and I'll keep your body intact. Otherwise—" Harold shouted.

"Since you're already here, none of you will be leaving this place," Theodore interrupted, drawing his sword. "Let's settle the debt between us from thirteen years ago."

"You are quite bold, huh? You little brute!" Harold was slightly surprised.

He heard that Theodore had spent thirteen years as a furnace for the Ashcrofts. Now, Vivienne's Solar and Lunar Convergence had succeeded, and it allowed her to ascend into the Immortal Realm. There were rumors that Theodore was left crippled after she destroyed his energy core.

He had sent Sebastian to propose marriage as an excuse to humiliate the Yardleys and seize the Seraphic Swordplay.

However, he never expected that his son would never return. By the time he received the news, Sebastian had been killed by a cripple.

Harold was in doubt when the Yardleys' messenger delivered the news, but he knew it was true after seeing Theodore in person. The young man before him radiated a powerful internal energy. He wasn't someone who had supposedly spent thirteen years as a furnace.

"I'm sending you to hell to meet your father now!"

Harold then struck Theodore's head with a devastating palm strike without hesitation.

Theodore was instantly reminded of the same ruthless attack his father had suffered at the gates of the Yardley Manor thirteen years ago. The only difference was that Harold was now an Innate Grandmaster.

A surge of immense internal energy gathered in Harold’s palm. As it descended, the force sent a fierce gust through the air, making Theodore’s clothes flap violently. The oppressive aura was suffocating for Theodore; this was the power of an Innate Grandmaster.

Just as Theodore was about to activate the Sword Orb to counterattack, a figure suddenly stepped in front of him and met Harold's palm with a single punch.

Boom!

The impact sent a deafening shockwave through the air. People instinctively covered their ears, yet they could still feel pain in their eardrums.

"Callum Yardley!" Harold staggered two steps back while his palm throbbed from the force. "You've stepped into the Innate Realm!"

An old man with hunched shoulders and white hair stood before Theodore. Seeing this familiar figure, Theodore's nose stung with emotions.

It was his grandfather, Callum Yardley.

It had been thirteen years since they last met, and the once strong man had grown frail with age.

"Grandpa!" Liliana ran to him with tears in her eyes.

"Lord Callum!" The Yardleys cried out from a distance.

Callum's presence reignited their hope.

He gently stroked Liliana's head before turning to Theodore. His gaze was filled with warmth and sorrow.

"Theodore, you've suffered a great deal," he said.

Theodore almost burst into tears. He didn’t shed a single tear even when his energy core was crippled. However, his grandfather's words nearly broke his composure. Still, he forced himself to hold them back. "Innate Realm… Lord Callum has broken through to the Innate Realm." "The Yardleys finally have an Innate Grandmaster. No one will dare bully us anymore in Philodorah." "Our ancestors are watching over us!." Feeling Callum's powerful aura, the Yardleys finally let out a sigh of relief. They had been suffering under oppression for too long. The events of thirteen years ago were still fresh in their minds. They all believed that this time, the Yardleys wouldn't be able to escape a disaster like the one before. With the patriarch emerging from seclusion and breaking through to the Innate Realm, the Yardleys had hope now. "No way! He couldn't break through for so many years! How did he succeed?" No one had expected Theodore to be so confident when facing an Innate Grandmaster. After all, Innate Grandmasters were the strongest existence in all of Philodorah. They were like divine figures to ordinary people. "Theodore, take Liliana and leave immediately," Callum said as he held off Richard and Wayne."Go," Austin stepped forward and added, "I'll buy you some time." The remaining guards of the Yardleys gathered together instantly. These were Callum's most trusted men who had been carefully trained over the years. "Haha! A bunch of nobodies like you guys think you can stop me? Little brute, you're not getting away today!" Harold took a step forward and unleashed the powerful internal energy of an Innate Grandmaster. The surrounding guards immediately felt unwell and lost the energy to fight. They could barely even take another step. Austin was about to act when Theodore stopped him. His Solar Force surged as he said, "Grandpa, he is right. Even if we escape the Yardley

The three men who were engaged in battle glanced in Theodore's direction. Callum's eyes flickered with both astonishment and delight, but in the end, a helpless look settled on his face. "If only the Yardleys had a few more Innate Realm cultivators..." Callum sighed inwardly. Richard and Wayne were shocked and excited. Power like this was something only those near immortality could wield. This discovery made their trip worthwhile. "Well, well, well! The Ashcrofts have really put on a good act. They claim to have made you a furnace for thirteen years, destroyed your energy core, and drained you of your Solarborn energy. Turns out it was all a lie!" Harold's shock ran even deeper than his father's. The moment their swords clashed, the cleft between his thumb and index fingers went numb. He had been using his Innate Realm's internal energy, yet Theodore had humiliated him by forcing him to retreat ten steps using only his formidable sword technique. Something like this had

It was a shocking sight. No one had expected that the one shouting for the other to kneel would end up on his knees instead. The reversal happened so quickly that no one could react in time. It was only when they saw Harold trembling and gritting his teeth in pain that they realized this was real. An Innate Grandmaster was being forced to kneel by a single strike from a Postnatal Realm cultivator. The ground was cracked open, and his kneecaps were crushed. The sheer power behind that strike was terrifying. Meanwhile, Theodore stood tall, gazing down at him. His pupils had turned completely silvery-white like a deity descending upon the mortal world. "No way! How could the Seraphic Swordplay be this powerful? It actually allows a Postnatal Realm cultivator to challenge someone in the Innate Realm!" "They say this sword technique is nearly at the level of an immortal. An Innate Grandmaster is nothing more than an ant in the face of an immortal!" "Theodore is only i

Tears welled up in Callum's eyes. If Theodore still remembered what happened all those years ago, it was the same for him. For thirteen years, the image of his eldest son's death had haunted his mind daily. That helplessness was the driving force behind his breakthrough to the Innate Realm. Theodore's words tugged at his heartstrings. He knew that his grandson wasn't just doing this for himself—he was doing it for him as well. "Ahh!" A bloodcurdling scream broke the silence.Theodore severed all five fingers of Harold's hand swiftly. In the very next instant, his sword came down again, cutting off Harold's sword-wielding arm. "Theodore, you little brute! How dare you harm my son? I swear the Yardleys will suffer a fate worse than death!" Richard's eyes burned red as he watched his son's agonizing state. His shock was just as great as his fury. He had never imagined that the Boltons would end in defeat today at the cost of his son who was an Innate Grandmaster. In his ey

After Richard and his men had retreated, silence engulfed the Yardleys. Everyone believed that the family would be annihilated today, yet the tides had turned. "Th-they actually left," Austin broke the silence. "Theodore defeated an Innate Grandmaster. We aren't dreaming, right? The Boltons really left!" The crowd snapped back to their senses and looked at Theodore with admiration, as if he were a deity. In their eyes, Innate Realm cultivators were an existence akin to gods. Yet Theodore had slain one when he was still in the Postnatal Realm. On top of that, the Boltons' two remaining Innate Grandmasters were completely intimidated and forced to leave. Richard even abandoned his son's corpse. If word of this got out, no one would believe it. However, one man's joy was another man's sorrow. When Harold was killed by Theodore, Carson, and the other elders, as well as their traitorous family members, all turned deathly pale.Carson wet himself and collapsed to the groun

Callum continued helplessly, "We still lack a solid foundation. We've been growing for the past thirteen years, but so have our enemies." "Grandpa, you will surely get better," Liliana said and held onto his arm while getting teary."Silly child." Callum stroked her hair gently before suddenly turning serious. "What I'm about to say next is very important. Listen carefully—" Theodore cut him off before he could finish, "Grandpa, stop saying such nonsense. I'll make sure you live a long life as long as I'm here." Anthony was momentarily stunned. Aside from Liliana, no one in the entire family had ever dared to interrupt Callum's speech. "I know you want the best for me, Theodore, but I know my body. Some things just can't be forced." Callum sighed. "No, I'm not giving up," Theodore said firmly. At first, Callum thought his grandson was simply trying to comfort him; he didn't expect Theodore to be so adamant. This surprised him greatly, even making him a little a

Theodore told them that aside from serving as a furnace in his thirteen years with the Ashcrofts, he consumed various pills daily and even learned some pill refinement techniques. It wasn't exactly a lie. While he was Vivienne's furnace, he wasn't only given rare medicinal herbs—he also took certain pills that enhanced his physique. However, the purpose of enhancing his physique was merely to cultivate Solarborn energy for Vivienne's use. Since there was a trace of hope, Callum had no choice but to listen to Theodore. He had Liliana take Theodore to the family's secret vault so that he could pick out the necessary materials himself. Once the siblings left, Callum called Anthony to his side and said, "Go and get ready. If the noble families join forces and come after us, take Theodore and Liliana and leave immediately." "Why, Dad? Didn't Theodore say he knows pill refinement?" Anthony was puzzled."Pill refinement?" Callum chuckled and shook his head. "That boy is stubbo

Everyone was left stunned, especially Silas, who was still clinging to the cliffside. Watching Theodore leap into the lava, he had no idea what came over him, but in the next moment, he followed and jumped in too.The two cultivators from the Soaring Dragon Sect turned pale. They didn't dare jump after him and could only watch in horror as Silas plunged into the molten abyss, vanishing in the blink of an eye."What the hell are we supposed to do now? How do we explain this when we get back?" one of them asked, his face ashen."There's nothing to explain," someone said coldly. "We all say the same thing. He lost his footing and fell. End of story."Even Jeffrey hadn't expected the monk to be that reckless."Exactly. Both of them slipped. There's nothing we could do," added Hugh, the Dark Brotherhood disciple. The other three major sect representatives stayed silent. Theodore surveyed the area and realized there was barely enough space to walk along the sides of the tunnel, but they would have to hug the wall. One misstep, and they would fall straight down. That unnatural red glow was clearly coming from the molten lava below, but this wasn't just any lava. No normal magma glowed like that."If I fall in there, I'll be incinerated instantly," Theodore muttered, his expression grim. Even with his body protected by sword force, he wouldn't last a second in that hellfire.Just then, he noticed something on the opposite wall. A figure in a black robe was already carefully inching along the narrow ledge, hugging the rock. The person had made it quite a distance already. Glancing across the gap, Theodore saw another tunnel on the far side."Well, aren't you sneaky," Theodore called out with a smirk."Cut the crap. If you don't want to die, stay back," the robed figure rasped. That voice belonged to Lynette.Naturally, Theodore didn't listen. He tu

As soon as Theodore stepped into the rift, his face was bathed in a strange red glow. Oddly enough, the light didn't spill out past the rift. It was like something was blocking it right at the entrance.Feeling the heat from that red glow, Theodore immediately knew there had to be an Exotic Flame inside. No ordinary fire could emit something this eerie. He had just taken a few steps when he heard footsteps behind him. Turning around, he saw Silas following close behind.Theodore shot him an annoyed glare. "You really don't care about dying, do you, kid?""I'm scared," Silas replied quietly, keeping his head down. "But since you had the guts to come in, I figured I should too.""I've barely got ten percent of my spiritual power left. I'm injured and barely hanging on. I've got enough to worry about without looking after you," Theodore muttered as he walked."No need to worry about me," Silas said with a smile. "You just do what you need to do, Senior. I won't hold you back.""I h

That said, Theodore wasn't lying either. If the Cinder Fiend really absorbed the Exotic Flame inside, it would definitely evolve into the Sunbane Fiend. When that happened, the entire Kingdom of Avelon could be reduced to ashes. It was just that the moment wouldn't come quite so soon."So, what do we do now?" Marie was completely at a loss."You stay here. I'll go in with the others," Theodore said. "They're planning to send people in, right? You should recommend me.""Why are you so set on going in?" Marie asked, curious."I want the treasure too," Theodore replied. "What if I'm the chosen one? Wouldn't that be my big break?"Marie rolled her eyes, but she chose to believe him.She immediately took Theodore to the main camp where the major factions were still debating over who to send into the rift.No one was willing to volunteer. After all, they had all seen the Cinder Fiend's power during the day. Against that thing, Energy Refinement Stage cultivators had no chance. They w

Inside the camp, cultivators from the various sects were puzzled by what they had just witnessed. They immediately dispatched several people to investigate. It didn't take long before a report came back."The fissure in the mountain has indeed begun to close, but there's still a gap wide enough to fit three people. There's a faint red glow coming from inside."The leading cultivators from each sect began discussing what to do next. Marie also went to eavesdrop on the meeting and didn't return for nearly an hour."They're planning to head into the mountain to investigate," Marie said when she came back."Idiots. They're throwing their lives away for treasure. If they run into that Cinder Fiend in there, they'll be reduced to ash."Hearing this, Theodore chuckled and said, "Do you know why the Cinder Fiend returned to the mountain after night fell?"Marie blinked, surprised. "You know why?"Theodore stepped out of the tent and pointed up at the moon. "Because of that.""The moon?

The Cinder Fiend was born from absorbing the fire of heaven and earth. If it managed to absorb the Exotic Flame within that fissure, it would evolve into something far more terrifying—a Sunbane Fiend. And once a Sunbane Fiend was unleashed, everything within a hundred miles would be scorched to ashes.Forget Azure Dragon Peak. If that thing emerged, the entire city of Philodorah could be reduced to cinders. The Yardleys wouldn't even need the Dark Brotherhood to wipe them out. This creature alone could do it."This Cinder Fiend seems to be under some kind of restriction. If we can figure out its weakness, we might be able to get inside that fissure," Theodore said, his eyes fixed on the mountain.Marie stared at him in disbelief. "Are you insane?! Didn't you see those cultivators just now? They were vaporized before they could even react!""I saw." Theodore nodded. "If things go south, we leave immediately. I'm not stupid enough to throw my life away."That reassured Marie a litt

From a distance, the entire mountain looked like it was ablaze. Strangely, though, a massive fissure had split the mountain open, and the blinding red light was pouring out from within that crack. The massive beast stood at the summit, letting out a series of thunderous roars. Even though they were over half a mile away, both Theodore and Marie could feel the sheer, overwhelming pressure in those cries.“A Cinder Fiend!”Theodore swallowed hard as he stared at the creature. “With that kind of aura, it's at least a Grade Three beast.”“Grade Three?”Marie’s face turned pale. “That’s basically on par with the Core Ascension Stage, isn’t it?”In the realm of cultivators, becoming an immortal meant ascending beyond the mundane. The growth in stages was Energy Refinement, Foundation Establishment, and Core Ascension.Once someone reached the Core Ascension Stage, they could control an Aetherblade and even kill an enemy a thousand miles away with a single slash. "Huh?" Theodore looked at her, puzzled. "You've come to Azure Dragon Peak so many times. Wasn't it all for this treasure? If you miss it now, wouldn't that be a huge waste?""To me, you are the greatest treasure," Marie said softly, her cheeks flushing red again.Theodore gave a wry smile. "Then, I'll go with you. I may be injured, but I can still hold my own. Besides, I've got someone watching over me in secret."Hearing that, Marie suddenly thought of the mysterious cultivator in black. That finally put her mind at ease. "Who was that person, anyway?""I told you. I inherited my ancestor's legacy. That person is its guardian. But unless things get really dire, she won't intervene," Theodore explained.Since Marie had shown enough goodwill, he figured it was only right to be a little more forthcoming. If they were going to keep working together, she deserved some peace of mind."Was that sword technique you used part of the legacy, too?" Marie asked."It was." Theodore nodded.

Marie's expression darkened. If it were the old Vivienne who had said such a thing, she would've brushed it off as immature nonsense. However, the Vivienne standing before her now was a completely different person. She had mastered the Primordial Technique, become the heir to a sect, and held significant influence within the Dark Brotherhood. If she truly rose to the position of sect leader one day, war between the Dark Brotherhood and the Kingdom of Avelon's royal family would be inevitable.Frankly, the royal family wouldn't have the upper hand. Sure, they controlled Heaven's Reach Academy, but if it came down to an all-out war, not every cultivator in the academy would necessarily side with the crown."Three years from now, maybe it'll be the Dark Brotherhood that's wiped off the map," Theodore replied in a steady voice. He was confident that in three years, he would be able to crush Vivienne and perhaps even the entire Dark Brotherhood. The cultivators from Dark Brotherhood fr
