Clara’s POV.

I sat at my penthouse with Gina, sipping wine and enjoying the cool evening when Damon came rushing in like he’d just seen a ghost. His steps were hurried, and his breathing wasn’t calm. I looked at Gina, who had been scrolling through her phone on the couch, and we both exchanged a glance. Whatever it was, it had him worked up.

“Call a meeting,” he said, not even bothering to sit down. “Now.”

Gina stood, raising an eyebrow. “What’s going on?”

He ran a hand through his hair. “Clarence just launched a company.”

I straightened. “What?”

He nodded quickly. “I didn’t know it was her company. I was invited by a few partners, they didn’t say much. Said it was a new luxury clothing house—they wanted me to come along and network. I thought it was just another rich kid playing CEO. But then I saw her. On the stage. She was introduced as the owner.”

Gina scoffed. “You’re lying.”

“I’m not,” he said and pulled out his phone.

“Look.”

He handed the phone to Gina, who scrolled

Julian’s POV.I stayed in the car longer than I should have, my hands still gripping the steering wheel. Marvin’s confession kept playing over and over in my head. My first instinct was to go straight to him, confront him, make him talk. But then, reality sank in. What was I going to do? Storm into some seedy club and start throwing punches? What if he ran? What if Kristina’s parents found out and stepped in like they always did, sweeping everything under the rug before I even got close?I leaned back against the seat and let out a long, slow breath. No. This was bigger than me. If I wanted this to stick, I needed to do it right. And that meant calling Denver, a cop friend of mine who has always wanted to help but I always make him stay away so he won't lose his job but this time I was ready for anything.Without wasting any seconds, I dialed his number. He picked up on the second ring.“Julian?”“Yeah, it’s me,” I said, forcing my voice to stay steady. “I need your help. Can we mee

Chapter 94Julian’s POV.Clarence was finally discharged late that evening. When the doctor handed her the medications and instructions, I could see she was tired—more tired than I expected after just a few days in the hospital. The doctor spoke calmly, explaining everything clearly, but Clarence’s body language told the real story. She shifted uncomfortably, avoided eye contact, and kept quiet. I knew she was already sick of being treated like she was fragile. I understood that. I wanted her to rest, but I also understood how frustrating it could be.Outside the hospital, the air was cool and the sky had darkened. I suggested we skip the rest of the trip. The resort was just two cities away, but I knew she didn’t have the strength to enjoy it.“We should just head home,” I said quietly, keeping my voice low so I wouldn’t sound pushy.Clarence looked over at me, biting her lip like she was trying to decide if I was right. “But we promised the others...”I sighed gently. “I know. But

Clarence’s POV.Back in my room, I sank onto the bed, feeling exhausted. My thoughts drifted off to Julian’s worried eyes as he carried me down the slope. His arms had been so steady, so warm against me, and I couldn’t shake the memory of his voice, calm and gentle as he told me he had me.But I didn’t deserve that. Not his kindness. Not his concern. Not after everything I had put him through.I pressed my palms against my eyes, trying to block out the way he had looked at me as if I was someone worth caring about. The way he kept asking if I was okay, offering to stay with me, to take me to the hospital. But I couldn’t let him.“Go, Julian,” I had said, my eyes fixed on the floor. “I’m fine.”He had hesitated, his eyes searching mine, but I couldn’t look at him. If I did, he would see the guilt and the shame that sat heavy in my chest. He would see the way my heart ached every time he touched me, every time he looked at me with that same old tenderness that I didn’t deserve.Finall

Julian’s POV.After breakfast that morning, everyone gathered outside the resort. Today was the second day of the work trip, and we were going on a hike. The staff was filled with energy, talking and laughing as they adjusted their backpacks or stretched their legs. But I hung back a little, scanning the crowd until my eyes found Clarence. She stood away from the group, looking absent minded. Olivia was next to her, chatting eagerly but Clarence didn’t seem to be listening. Her expression was distant, and my mind kept drifting back to last night and how she had left that morning afraid that someone might see us together.I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Was she regretting what happened? Or was something else weighing on her? I wanted to ask, but I didn’t want to push her.“All right, everyone!” the trip coordinator called, breaking my thoughts. “We’ll take the company bus down to the mountain. Let’s get moving.”One by one, we filed into the bus parked nearby. I hoped to sit next to

Clarence’s POV. I woke up to the sounds of laughter drifting through the window. I had stayed out late with Julian until I was almost freezing before we headed back and bid each other goodnight. I didn't know what came over me last night but I felt so free around him, as free as I used to back then at college when I would tell him everything. Maybe it was because I needed company and hadn't had one in a long time or was it just my returning feelings for him doing all of that? I dragged myself out of bed, my feet hitting the cold floor. The schedule said we were supposed to meet by the lake this morning. When I stepped outside, everyone was already assembled and Julian was already there, standing by the lake with a few of our colleagues. He looked so at ease with his arms crossed over his chest. I watched him for a second longer than I should have, letting my gaze linger on the line of his jaw, the curve of his smile as he laughed at something someone said. “Clarence,” Julia

Clarence’s POV. That evening during the closing hours, Julian showed up at my door. He didn’t bother with a greeting. The look on his face said it all. “We need to go see Olivia,” he said. I straightened up in my chair, feeling the tension roll off him. “Do you have her address?” “We can get it from her application,” he said. “We need to catch her off guard before she catches the wind and decides to avoid us.” I nodded. It made sense. The last thing I wanted was for Olivia to slip away before we got the truth. I grabbed my bag, my mind racing as we headed to the parking lot. Julian led the way and opened the car door for me. I got into the passenger seat and he joined in the driver’s seat and started the car. “Her place is about an hour away,” He said as he pulled out of the lot. “I know the area.” I nodded, staring out the window. My mind kept circling back to Olivia. The way she used to hang around my office, offering coffee or a snack, pretending to be a friend. The

Julian’s POV. I rushed from my office to Clarence after receiving her call and hearing the fear and urgency in her voice. She was trying to put herself together when I got there. I saw the Rose and the cardboard paper and almost puked at the sight of the rat. This was too much, something I had never seen. I read the message and knew this night he had the last threatening message before whoever was sending this, came for her. Their message showed they had been watching her and knew I spent the night at her place. The sight of her trying to hold herself together made my chest ache. I wanted to promise her that I would keep her safe, but what good were promises when someone was clearly one step ahead of us? “Did you see Olivia today?” I asked, my voice tight. Clarence shook her head. “No. She texted me earlier, and said she wasn’t coming in. Something about not feeling well.” Not feeling well? Olivia was never one to miss work without a damn good reason but If Olivia wasn’t in

Kristina’s POV. I stood there in the middle of our living room, looking at my parents and unable to believe my ears. “You should let Julian go,” my father said. “You ruined everything.” I swallowed. “No, I can't,” I said, my voice trembling. “He’s the one who called off the engagement. Not me.” “He wouldn’t have if you had kept your act together,” my father shot back. “You couldn’t stay clean, could you? After everything we did for you.” I opened my mouth to argue, but he wasn’t finished. He stood up, towering over me. “Drugs, Kristina? After all the money we spent on your rehab? And now you’re dealing with lowlifes and bringing shame to this family?” “I wasn’t dealing,” I protested, but the words sounded weak even to me. “It was just once —” “Once?” he sneered. “We have evidence, Kristina. Pictures. Witnesses. You think Julian was bluffing?” My heart pounded, seeing my father in so much rage meant that it was over for me. I looked over at my mother, desperate for some k
