Sanctuary

Aria woke to softness.

Clean sheets beneath her, a pillow cradling her head, warmth surrounding her like a cocoon. For a blissful moment, she thought she was dreaming. Then the pain hit. Her leg throbbed, ribs ached, body stiff and sore.

Memories flooded back. The rogues. The blood. The terror. Then those green eyes, filled with concern.

Her eyes snapped open. She was in an unfamiliar bedroom with cream-colored walls and sunlight streaming through large windows. The furniture was simple but comfortable, nothing like the sparse omega quarters in Silvermoon.

"Easy there." A woman's calm voice came from beside the bed. "You're safe, but you need to rest."

Aria turned to see a woman in her forties with kind brown eyes and silver-streaked hair. The scent identified her as a healer.

"Where am I?" Aria's voice came out rough.

"Nightshade Pack territory. I'm Elena, the pack healer." She offered Aria a glass of water. "You've been here two days. That rogue nearly severed the muscle in your leg. You're lucky Alpha Dante found you when he did."

Two days. Aria's heart clenched. "Does my pack know..."

"No one from Silvermoon has come looking," Elena said gently. "Should they be?"

The question hung heavy. Should Kade care that she'd nearly died? Should anyone?

"No," Aria whispered. "They shouldn't."

Elena's expression softened with understanding. "Alpha Dante wants to speak with you when you're ready. No rush. He just wants to know if you're seeking sanctuary."

"I am. If he'll have me."

"Then I suspect he will." Elena smiled warmly. "Alpha Dante judges wolves by character, not rank. Now rest. I'll bring food later, and if you're strong enough this evening, he can visit."

After Elena left, Aria studied the room. Her belongings were neatly arranged on the dresser. Her clothes, Garrett's map, the money, Maya's pendant. Someone had treated her things with respect, not like worthless omega possessions.

Fresh tears pricked her eyes. She'd made it. Against all odds, she'd actually made it to safety.

Aria woke again to the smell of food. A young red-haired woman with a warrior's build was setting a tray on the bedside table.

"Oh good, you're awake! I'm Lyra." She grinned. "Brought you lunch. Elena's orders."

"Thank you. I'm Aria."

"I know. Everyone knows. You're the girl Alpha Dante saved from the rogues." Lyra helped adjust her pillows. "Pretty badass, from what I heard. You took a chunk out of one before they got you."

Aria blinked. "I was terrified."

"Being brave doesn't mean you're not scared. It means you fight anyway." Lyra leaned forward with undisguised curiosity. "So what's your story? Why were you running alone through rogue territory?"

"Lyra," a deep male voice said from the doorway with amused exasperation. "Let her eat before you interrogate her."

Aria's breath caught. The man standing there was the wolf who'd saved her. Those hazel eyes are unmistakable. Tall, broad-shouldered, wearing simple jeans and a T-shirt. When he smiled, it was warm and genuine.

Alpha Dante.

Aria instinctively tried to lower her head in submission, but Dante held up a hand.

"None of that. You're injured and you're a guest. No formal protocols needed here."

Lyra rolled her eyes affectionately. "See? Told you he's different." She squeezed Aria's shoulder. "I'll leave you two to talk. But once you're healed, I'm teaching you proper fighting moves."

After Lyra left, Dante pulled the chair closer and sat. Despite his size and obvious power, his manner was surprisingly gentle.

"How are you feeling?"

"Sore. But better. Thank you for saving me."

"Any decent wolf would have done the same." His expression grew serious. "Elena says you want sanctuary. I need to understand your situation first. Will you tell me what happened?"

This was it. The moment of truth. Aria could lie or risk being rejected again.

She thought of Lyra calling her brave. Of Luna's voice saying they were stronger now.

"I was rejected by my mate three days ago," Aria said quietly. "At my eighteenth birthday ceremony. My mate is Alpha Kade Thornridge of Silvermoon Pack. He rejected me in front of everyone because I'm an omega. Because I'm weak."

She waited for judgment or pity. But Dante's expression showed only compassion and anger, directed at Kade, not her.

"I'm sorry. Mate rejection is one of the cruelest acts a wolf can commit." He shook his head. "What Kade did wasn't strength. It was cowardice."

"You don't think I'm weak?"

"You survived a mate rejection, ran two days through hostile territory, fought four rogues while outnumbered, and you're still here fighting. That's not weakness, Aria. That's strength most wolves never discover."

A tear slipped down her cheek. Dante handed her a tissue.

"I can't go back there," she said, voice breaking. "I can't see him every day, knowing I wasn't good enough. I need somewhere new."

"Then you'll stay here. Nightshade Pack grants you sanctuary. You'll have a home for as long as you want it."

"Just like that? You don't want anything in return?"

Dante's expression hardened slightly. "I'm not interested in using a traumatized young wolf as a bargaining chip. You asked for sanctuary. I'm granting it. The only thing I ask is that you contribute to the pack in whatever way suits your abilities. Everyone works here. Everyone has value. Your rank doesn't define your worth in Nightshade."

Fresh tears spilled down Aria's cheeks. Tears of relief, gratitude, hope.

"Thank you, Alpha Dante."

"Just Dante, when we're private," He smiled. "Welcome to Nightshade Pack, Aria Blackwood. When you're healed, we'll make it official. But for now, focus on recovering." He stood to leave, then paused. "One more thing. Your past is yours to share or not. No one here will judge you for being rejected. What defines you is who you choose to become, not what someone else decided you weren't."

After he left, Aria sat in stunned silence. She'd found more than sanctuary. She'd found acceptance. In Silvermoon, her omega status had defined everything. Here, Dante saw potential. Saw strength.

A new beginning, Luna said, her voice stronger than it had been in days. New pack. New life.

Aria looked out the window at Nightshade territory bathed in afternoon sunlight. Somewhere beyond those forests was Silvermoon, where Kade probably wasn't thinking about the omega he'd cast aside.

Good, she thought with surprising fierceness. Let him forget me. I'm going to become someone he wouldn't recognize. Someone strong. Someone worthy.

Not for him. For herself.

Aria lifted the spoon and took her first bite of soup in her new life.

It tasted like hope.

The morning of the wedding dawned clear and beautiful, as if the Moon Goddess herself was blessing the union. Aria stood in her room, surrounded by the women who'd become her family. Elena was pinning flowers into her hair while Lyra fussed with the train of her dress."Stop fidgeting," Lyra scolded, though her eyes were bright with happy tears. "You're going to wrinkle the silk."The dress was simple but stunning. Flowing white silk that draped elegantly over her curves, with delicate silver embroidery along the hem and neckline. Maya's crescent moon pendant rested at her throat, and the bracelet from Dante's mother circled her wrist. On her finger, the moonstone engagement ring caught the light."You look like a dream," Elena said softly, stepping back to admire her work. "Dante's going to cry when he sees you.""I hope not. Then I'll cry, and my makeup will run," Aria laughed, but her own eyes were misty.A knock at the door, and Catherine poked her head in. In the two weeks since

  • Her Broken Alpha   Unmasking the Traitor

Kade arrived at the neutral meeting point alone, as requested. The abandoned cabin on the border between territories was the perfect place for a secret meeting. His expression was wary but curious when he saw Aria, Dante, and a woman he didn't recognize."This better be important," Kade said, though his eyes lingered on Aria with barely concealed longing. "Your message said it was urgent.""It is," Dante said. "Kade, do you know Catherine Moore?"Kade's eyes narrowed as he studied the woman. "You were a healer in my pack. You disappeared three years ago, right after..." His voice trailed off."Right after Elena died," Catherine finished. "I didn't disappear, Alpha. I ran for my life."For the next hour, they laid out everything. Catherine's findings, Elena's notes, the inconsistencies in the attack, the financial records. Kade listened in silence, his expression growing darker with each revelation. When they finished, he sat completely still for a long moment."You're telling me Garre

  • Her Broken Alpha   Shadows of the Past

The wedding preparations consumed Nightshade Pack with joyful chaos. Aria had insisted on keeping it simple, but the pack had other ideas. Everyone wanted to contribute something to celebrate their Alpha and future Luna.Aria was reviewing seating arrangements with Elena when a messenger arrived, breathless and urgent."Luna-to-be, there's a woman at the border requesting entry. She says her name is Catherine, and she needs to speak with you about Alpha Kade."Aria's stomach dropped. "Catherine? I don't know anyone by that name.""She says it's about his past. About Elena." The messenger shifted uncomfortably. "She seems... distressed."Aria exchanged glances with Elena, who nodded. "I'll come with you."At the border, they found a woman in her late twenties, thin and exhausted, with the haunted look of someone who'd been running for a long time. Her clothes were travel-worn, and she clutched a leather satchel like it contained something precious."Aria Blackwood?" the woman asked, he

  • Her Broken Alpha   A Promise Under the Moon

Aria stood in front of her mirror, adjusting the emerald green dress Lyra had helped her pick out. It hugged her curves in all the right places, the color bringing out the amber in her eyes. Maya's pendant rested at her throat, a reminder of how far she'd come."You look stunning," Lyra said, practically bouncing with excitement. "Dante's going to lose his mind when he sees you.""Do you know what this is about?" Aria asked, trying to calm her racing heart."Maybe," Lyra said with a knowing grin. "But I'm sworn to secrecy. Just trust me when I say you're going to want to remember tonight for the rest of your life."Elena appeared in the doorway with a small wooden box. "Before you go, I have something for you. It belonged to Dante's mother."Inside was a delicate silver bracelet etched with moon phases. "Elena, I can't...""You can, and you will. Dante asked me to give it to you. His mother would have loved you, Aria. You're exactly what he needs." Elena fastened the bracelet around A

  • Her Broken Alpha   Unwanted Visitor

Three weeks after the battle, life in Nightshade had returned to a peaceful rhythm. Aria's wound had healed into a scar she wore with pride, a mark of the day she'd proven herself as both warrior and healer. The surrendered rogues had been distributed among the five packs, given probationary membership and a chance to rebuild their lives. It was working better than anyone expected. Turned out most rogues just wanted belonging, not war.Aria was in the garden behind the pack house, gathering herbs for Elena, when she heard raised voices from the front entrance."I don't care what protocol says. I need to see her. Now."That voice. Aria's blood ran cold. She knew that voice, even though she hadn't heard it in months.Kade.She hurried around the building to find Kade arguing with two Nightshade guards. He looked worse than she'd ever seen him. Wild-eyed, desperate, his clothes disheveled. He smelled of whiskey and desperation."Aria!" He spotted her and lunged forward. The guards immedi

  • Her Broken Alpha   Blood and Courage

The battlefield was chaos.Aria had never seen anything like it. Hundreds of wolves clashing in a valley outside River Valley territory, the sound of snarls and yelps filling the air. The metallic scent of blood was overwhelming. She stayed in human form initially, as planned. Warrior-healers fought when needed but prioritized treating the wounded. Elena had taught her well, prepare for the worst, hope for the best."Aria, with me!" Lyra shouted, already engaging two rogues who'd broken through the line.Aria shifted mid-run, her silver wolf form smaller but faster than most. She darted in, using the tactics Lyra had drilled into her. Don't engage directly, use speed and agility, go for weak points. She caught one rogue's hind leg in her jaws, tearing muscle. He yelped and turned on her, but Lyra took him down before he could strike. The teamwork was perfect, practiced."Behind you!" Marcus's voice in her mind through the pack bond.Aria spun just in time to avoid a massive grey rogue
