Chapter 2

Author: Lovely Little Mom
After Joyce was released, she coughed repeatedly, glaring at me with venomous hatred.

I looked at her foolish expression and brushed my hands together in disgust.

She and I were in a marriage of convenience. My family wasn't as high-profile as the Fosters in business circles, but my grandfather's authority in the military was a protective shield no money could ever buy.

So, Joyce had no choice but to marry me.

She resented all of it, so she decided to humiliate me today as some form of comeuppance.

It was a shame that there was one thing she'd failed to consider.

I'd trained in boxing since childhood and was proficient in kickboxing, grappling, and other martial arts.

Anyway, if she wanted to play rough, who was I to refuse?

Pointing at me, she screeched, "Henry, you have to apologize to Lucius and me today! Otherwise, I won't marry you!"

I scoffed. "You want me to apologize? Sure! If he bends the knee and calls me his grandfather right now, I'll forgive him for being so insolent. What kind of elder wouldn't give his idiot grandson a chance, right?"

Lucius blew up.

Relying on Joyce's indulgence, he'd ruled this social circle for years. Since when had he suffered such humiliation?

"Someone needs to teach you a lesson!"

Lucius grabbed a bottle of wine and swung it toward my head, eliciting shocked gasps across the room. Someone even whistled.

Joyce only watched, a mocking sneer on her face.

However, the expected bloodshed never came.

The moment the bottle came swinging down at me, I stepped to the side and grabbed Lucius's wrist with my left hand, fast as lightning.

Crack!

A sharp, sickening sound echoed in the room.

Lucius let out a shriek, the bottle slipping from his fingers and shattering on the floor. Meanwhile, I smiled faintly, my grip tightening little by little.

Lucius's face went deathly pale. His knees buckled, and he dropped straight to the ground.

"It hurts! It hurts! Let go! My hand's going to break!" he wailed, reaching to claw at my clothes with his free hand.

I lifted a leg and kicked him in the chest, sending him flying and knocking over the coffee table, utterly disgraced.

Then, I walked over to him, planted my foot on his chest, and leaned down, my voice low and calm.

"My dear grandson, if you can't handle the consequences, don't get started with me. Are you sure you want to start a fight?"

Deathly silence filled the room, and everyone stared in disbelief.

The ever-arrogant Lucius was taken down in a single move?

Joyce couldn't stand it anymore, screeching like a banshee as she ran toward me, trying to shove me away. "You've gone mad, Henry! How dare you hit him?!"

The moment Joyce attacked, I retracted my leg and took one elegant step back.

She fell onto Lucius, seeing his swollen wrist and the footprint on his chest, and immediately started tearing up.

"Lucius, are you alright? I'm calling the police, Henry! I'll make sure you end up in jail!"

Lucius clutched his wrist, in so much pain that he broke out in cold sweat."Joyce, my hand's ruined! How am I supposed to play games now? How am I supposed to stay with you? You have to avenge me!"

Joyce glared at me furiously. "Henry, you just came here to cause trouble, didn't you? You hurt Lucius, this isn't over!"

I chuckled lightly and straightened my collar. "Joyce, let's get things straight. You're the one who invited me here, and since he wanted to become a father, I just taught him how to be a proper citizen.

"Since he lacks discipline, I'll discipline him on behalf of his parents."

She ground her teeth.

"Fine, you've got guts! Don't think that just because your father arranged this marriage, I have to worship you. This isn't over! I'll make sure you'll kneel and apologize to Lucius!"

Honestly, I found her complete lack of common sense laughable.

Not wanting to stay here any longer, I asked, "Your 'father' looks like he's going to breathe his last. Are you sure you don't want to send him to the hospital?"

It was then that Joyce finally remembered she was lying on an injured man, and she frantically ordered someone to send him to the hospital.

Before they left, she gave me one last, venomous glare. "Our engagement is over! Just wait, your family's bound to go bankrupt!"

Terrence was a smart man. He knew that if I walked away unsatisfied today, the Fosters would hereby be finished. After a brief moment of consideration, he chose to sacrifice one piece to save the whole. He pointed at Joyce. "From now on, freeze all the assets under this ungrateful child's name. Then, send her to our subsidiary in Afreya. Without my permission, she is not allowed to come back."Joyce broke down."I'm your daughter, Dad! How could you dispose of me because of an outsider?"Terrence was shaking with rage. "If Henry hadn't been willing to marry you, do you think you'd be living the life you have now?"You're the one who didn't treasure it! Now that the engagement is canceled, get out!"After dealing with Joyce, Terrence turned to look at Lucius."I don't want to see this man anywhere in this city."With one sentence, Lucius's future was destroyed for good.Lucius kneeled on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably as he crawled toward me and grabbed at my pant leg."H

When Joyce called, I was having tea with my father. The moment she said she'd broken her leg and still wanted to see me, I nearly laughed out loud."Sure. If it's about breaking off the engagement, I guess I can see you."I changed my clothes slowly, deliberately choosing to ride a taxi to the agreed-upon spot instead of driving my own car.I even went to the trouble of letting Terrence know the meeting location as well. Wasn't I so thoughtful and considerate? The moment I walked in the door, I saw Joyce slumped in a chair, drenched in sweat. One of her legs was stretched out at an awkward angle, and she was clearly in severe pain.Lucius stood nearby, playing on his phone and seemingly not having any intent of caring for her in the slightest.Seeing me, Joyce immediately became arrogant again."Took you long enough! Take me to the hospital and pay all my medical bills. Also, transfer me some spending money."Meanwhile, Lucius started mocking me. "Wow, talk about shabby. Did y

Lucius took to social media, posting photos of his bruised body along with a hospital diagnosis report. The caption read: [Some people think that just because their family has money and power, they can beat others half to death. Joyce, don't contact me again. I'm afraid I'll actually be beaten to death one day. [The doctor said my hand might be permanently damaged, and I may never compete again.]Joyce immediately reposted it and tagged me.[Henry, you owe him an explanation! You ruined his dreams!]Immediately, she sent me a bill.[Medical expenses, emotional distress compensation, lost wages… The total is 100 grand! Lucius says as long as you pay up and issue a public apology, he'll let this go.]I stared at the bill and laughed out loud.Just last night, my parents told me that Terrence had begged and pleaded, absolutely refusing to cancel the engagement.I was already fed up.And now this idiot hands me leverage on a silver platter. It was exactly what I need!Without

My parents went to the study to make their plans, but I was not bothered to deal with the situation any further.Just as I was about to go back to my room and rest, the phone suddenly vibrated. It was a call from Joyce, inviting me to the boxing club."You've gone for boxing training before, right?" She asked, her tone clearly filled with provocation. "Well, Lucius does kickboxing, so maybe you two can spar!"If you win, everything between us becomes a clean slate, but if you lose, you'll have to kneel and call Lucius daddy right then and there!"I listened to Lucius's laughter in the background, and my lips curled into a smile. Seems like someone hadn't learned her lesson. Was she trying to wipe away her humiliation behind the scenes?Honestly, I wasn't surprised. She was utterly humiliated by me in front of her friends, and even got scolded by her father in public. With that petty princess attitude of hers, it was no wonder she couldn't take it.She probably thought that by inv

After dealing with those two idiots who didn't know their place, Terrence turned to me, his tone becoming respectful immediately."Haha, Henry…" Terrence rubbed his hands, an awkward smile on his face. "I'm sorry for causing you all this trouble. I failed as a father, and let my daughter make you unhappy…"Look, I've already scolded them, so can we just… let this go? Let bygones be bygones?"Before I could say anything, Joyce blew up. Watching her always-authoritative father lower himself like this made her pride explode. She felt utterly humiliated."Dad! Why are you being so submissive to him?" Her expression was filled with open disdain. "Their family fell a long time ago, and it's nothing but an empty husk now! Why are you still trying to suck up to them?"You're the one who never even asked for my opinion and forced this engagement on me. I never liked him in the first place!"I looked at her twisted expression and suddenly found it… amusing.Did she just call my family a

What stunned Joyce even more was what happened next. The woman who'd been acting untouchable just moments ago dropped to her knees the instant she saw Joyce's father, Terrence Foster."Mr. Foster…? "W-why are you here?" her voice trembled.Terrence didn't spare her so much as a glance. Instead, he walked straight up to me. The stern authority on his face melted instantly into a warm, almost paternal smile. "Are you hurt, Henry? It's best not to come to places like these too often, my boy."I smiled. "I'm fine, sir. Joyce's friends were just a little too enthusiastic. They were just joking around with me, that's all."Terrence turned around, his gaze landing on Lucius, who'd been hiding in the corner. "Joking, huh? What kind? Tell me."Joyce lowered her head, not daring to say a word.Lucius was shaking so badly he could barely stand.I sighed, as if embarrassed, and said lightly, "It's nothing, really. This guy over here keeps on telling Joyce to call him her daddy, and for me
