Chapter 4

Author: Lovely Little Mom
Let it be known that Joyce Foster was the type who never learned her lesson.

After the mess I'd made, she behaved herself for two days, then promptly came up with something new.

It was Lucius's birthday, and he'd booked the most luxurious club in the city center.

Joyce had someone tell me: "If you don't come tonight, I'll cancel our engagement tonight and announce that Lucius is my boyfriend!"

I raised an eyebrow.

So she wanted to put Lucius in my place?

Well then, who was I to not offer a congratulatory gift?

-

That night, I put on a perfectly tailored black suit and fastened the Patek Philippe on my wrist, one that was worth a fortune. Then, I headed to the club.

The private room was thick with smoke and noise. Joyce sat on the sofa, while Lucius, dressed in a ridiculous semi-see-through outfit, had her wrapped in his arms, feeding her fruit.

The people around them cheered loudly.

"You're a lucky one, Joyce!"

"This is true love! Henry is nothing!"

The moment I stepped inside, the room fell quiet.

Lucius picked up a drink and swaggered over, his gaze dripping with contempt.

"Well, well, if it isn't Henry. What, are you here to beg for forgiveness?"

He pointed at several bottles of strong liquor on the floor. "Joyce said that if you finish all those bottles at once, bow to me and call me daddy, then she'll consider not breaking off the engagement with you."

Joyce raised her chin at me arrogantly. "This is your last chance, Henry."

I glanced around the room, my eyes settling on the empty seat at the head of the table.

"I heard there was supposed to be someone important coming tonight," I said, not responding to them at all.

Lucius grinned, full of himself. "Of course! My sponsor is coming, you know? She's like a mom to me. She's a real heavyweight in this city, so once she gets here, she'll crush you!"

"Sponsor, huh?" I laughed. "What's wrong? Did you switch to mooching off of a woman instead once you got sick of being a dad?"

Lucius's face went green as he opened his mouth to snap back, and the door swung open.

A voluptuous, middle-aged woman walked in, flanked by several bodyguards.

Lucius's eyes lit up, and he rushed over immediately. "You're finally here, Mom! Someone's bullying me!"

She wrapped an arm around his waist, her hand squeezing him in a way that wasn't very decent. "Who's got the nerve to bully my precious boy?"

Joyce stood up at once, her attitude flipping immediately. "Madam Winter, you're here!"

Madam Winter?

I almost laughed on the spot.

Eliza Winter was nothing more than the wife of a man who'd become rich out of nowhere. She used her husband's money to keep young men, bragging about having connections everywhere.

In front of my family, she wasn't even worth mentioning.

Yet Joyce Foster was willing to flatter someone like this for Lucius's sake? Even turning a blind eye to their unusual relationship?

She was so stupid it was laughable.

I shook my head, taking out my phone.

"Well, since we're all calling reinforcements, let me do it too."

I put the call on speaker. "Hello? Someone here wants me to kneel, call them daddy, and says they're going to kill me."

Joyce laughed coldly. "Wow, listen to you. Calling for help already? How many backers do you think you have out there?

"Let me make this clear. With Madam Winter here, it doesn't matter who you call. You're kneeling tonight."

Eliza snorted arrogantly. "Kid, tell that backer of yours to hurry up. I'll teach them how this world works."

Twenty minutes later, the doors slammed open, and a middle-aged man stepped in, his presence instantly commanding silence.

The room froze.

Joyce stared at him, her face draining of color.

"...Dad?"

Terrence was a smart man. He knew that if I walked away unsatisfied today, the Fosters would hereby be finished. After a brief moment of consideration, he chose to sacrifice one piece to save the whole. He pointed at Joyce. "From now on, freeze all the assets under this ungrateful child's name. Then, send her to our subsidiary in Afreya. Without my permission, she is not allowed to come back."Joyce broke down."I'm your daughter, Dad! How could you dispose of me because of an outsider?"Terrence was shaking with rage. "If Henry hadn't been willing to marry you, do you think you'd be living the life you have now?"You're the one who didn't treasure it! Now that the engagement is canceled, get out!"After dealing with Joyce, Terrence turned to look at Lucius."I don't want to see this man anywhere in this city."With one sentence, Lucius's future was destroyed for good.Lucius kneeled on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably as he crawled toward me and grabbed at my pant leg."H

When Joyce called, I was having tea with my father. The moment she said she'd broken her leg and still wanted to see me, I nearly laughed out loud."Sure. If it's about breaking off the engagement, I guess I can see you."I changed my clothes slowly, deliberately choosing to ride a taxi to the agreed-upon spot instead of driving my own car.I even went to the trouble of letting Terrence know the meeting location as well. Wasn't I so thoughtful and considerate? The moment I walked in the door, I saw Joyce slumped in a chair, drenched in sweat. One of her legs was stretched out at an awkward angle, and she was clearly in severe pain.Lucius stood nearby, playing on his phone and seemingly not having any intent of caring for her in the slightest.Seeing me, Joyce immediately became arrogant again."Took you long enough! Take me to the hospital and pay all my medical bills. Also, transfer me some spending money."Meanwhile, Lucius started mocking me. "Wow, talk about shabby. Did y

Lucius took to social media, posting photos of his bruised body along with a hospital diagnosis report. The caption read: [Some people think that just because their family has money and power, they can beat others half to death. Joyce, don't contact me again. I'm afraid I'll actually be beaten to death one day. [The doctor said my hand might be permanently damaged, and I may never compete again.]Joyce immediately reposted it and tagged me.[Henry, you owe him an explanation! You ruined his dreams!]Immediately, she sent me a bill.[Medical expenses, emotional distress compensation, lost wages… The total is 100 grand! Lucius says as long as you pay up and issue a public apology, he'll let this go.]I stared at the bill and laughed out loud.Just last night, my parents told me that Terrence had begged and pleaded, absolutely refusing to cancel the engagement.I was already fed up.And now this idiot hands me leverage on a silver platter. It was exactly what I need!Without

My parents went to the study to make their plans, but I was not bothered to deal with the situation any further.Just as I was about to go back to my room and rest, the phone suddenly vibrated. It was a call from Joyce, inviting me to the boxing club."You've gone for boxing training before, right?" She asked, her tone clearly filled with provocation. "Well, Lucius does kickboxing, so maybe you two can spar!"If you win, everything between us becomes a clean slate, but if you lose, you'll have to kneel and call Lucius daddy right then and there!"I listened to Lucius's laughter in the background, and my lips curled into a smile. Seems like someone hadn't learned her lesson. Was she trying to wipe away her humiliation behind the scenes?Honestly, I wasn't surprised. She was utterly humiliated by me in front of her friends, and even got scolded by her father in public. With that petty princess attitude of hers, it was no wonder she couldn't take it.She probably thought that by inv

After dealing with those two idiots who didn't know their place, Terrence turned to me, his tone becoming respectful immediately."Haha, Henry…" Terrence rubbed his hands, an awkward smile on his face. "I'm sorry for causing you all this trouble. I failed as a father, and let my daughter make you unhappy…"Look, I've already scolded them, so can we just… let this go? Let bygones be bygones?"Before I could say anything, Joyce blew up. Watching her always-authoritative father lower himself like this made her pride explode. She felt utterly humiliated."Dad! Why are you being so submissive to him?" Her expression was filled with open disdain. "Their family fell a long time ago, and it's nothing but an empty husk now! Why are you still trying to suck up to them?"You're the one who never even asked for my opinion and forced this engagement on me. I never liked him in the first place!"I looked at her twisted expression and suddenly found it… amusing.Did she just call my family a

What stunned Joyce even more was what happened next. The woman who'd been acting untouchable just moments ago dropped to her knees the instant she saw Joyce's father, Terrence Foster."Mr. Foster…? "W-why are you here?" her voice trembled.Terrence didn't spare her so much as a glance. Instead, he walked straight up to me. The stern authority on his face melted instantly into a warm, almost paternal smile. "Are you hurt, Henry? It's best not to come to places like these too often, my boy."I smiled. "I'm fine, sir. Joyce's friends were just a little too enthusiastic. They were just joking around with me, that's all."Terrence turned around, his gaze landing on Lucius, who'd been hiding in the corner. "Joking, huh? What kind? Tell me."Joyce lowered her head, not daring to say a word.Lucius was shaking so badly he could barely stand.I sighed, as if embarrassed, and said lightly, "It's nothing, really. This guy over here keeps on telling Joyce to call him her daddy, and for me
