Chapter 5

Author: Nekomimi
Over the next few days, Leighton never came home.

That gave me plenty of time to apply to universities abroad and reach out to professors.

Half a month later, a professor from one of the universities replied to my email. He said he was impressed by my resume and encouraged me to apply to their program.

Leighton came home that same day, looking much better than before.

"Have you calmed down yet?"

"I've been staying in the dorm these past few days. I've done a lot of thinking. We need to talk."

A strong men's cologne hit me. There was also a short chestnut-brown hair caught near the collar of her dress—one that clearly didn't belong to her.

Since I was in a good mood, I couldn't even be bothered with exposing such an obvious lie.

"Talk about what? Your little boyfriend again?"

Leighton shot me an irritated look, but ultimately swallowed her anger and continued, "I didn't come back to fight with you, Logan. Do you have any idea how much damage you caused Harley that day? You almost ruined him.

"He's emotionally unstable right now. As his professor, I have a responsibility to make sure he's safe."

I dug at my ear impatiently. "So?"

"So he can't go abroad right now. And for the sake of his reputation, you need to apologize to him publicly."

A laugh escaped me. Apparently, when a person is speechless enough, they really do start laughing.

"Sure."

Leighton froze, clearly not expecting me to agree so easily.

The next second, I pulled out a revised copy of the divorce agreement.

In black and white, the asset division was clearly stated: 70% for me, 30% for her.

Leighton frowned. "Threatening me with divorce again, Logan? Can’t you come up with something else?"

I nodded earnestly. "That's right. It is a threat. If you don't sign it, the entire university will know about your sordid affair by tomorrow."

Leighton was at a critical stage in her Associate Dean promotion process while Harley was about to graduate.

I knew she'd agree.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, she uncapped her pen and signed her name.

Looking at the signed divorce agreement, I nodded in satisfaction. Then I pulled out my phone and casually scrolled through the screen.

As she finished the final stroke of her signature, she suddenly let out a mocking laugh.

"Logan, you're completely living off me. If you step back into society now, you're nothing but a useless man who can't even take care of himself.

"Do you really think you can live off that settlement money for the rest of your life? Give me a break. I'll be waiting for the day you come crawling back and beg me to remarry you."

Confidence radiated from every inch of her. Unfortunately for her, that day would never come.

"The papers are signed. When are you going to apologize to Harley?"

Smiling, I lifted my phone.

On the screen were the words: "Email Sent Successfully".

"I'm afraid that won't be necessary. I’ve compiled all your dirty little secrets into a PDF and sent it, along with the evidence, to the Northbridge University administrative office. You broke your promise once, so I get to break mine once. That's only fair, isn't it?"

The calm expression on Leighton's face instantly froze.

A second later, her phone rang, the shrill ringtone blaring urgently.

  • Her Last Goodbye   Chapter 11

Time flies when you’re having fun. Before I knew it, an entire year had gone by since I moved to the States.During that year, I was accepted into the university I'd dreamed of attending.Under the guidance of the professor who had replied to my email back then, I tackled one challenging problem after another. My new life was so fulfilling that there were times when I found myself wondering whether that marriage back home had actually happened at all.Or whether it had simply been a delusion brought on by too many sleepless nights spent analyzing data. Then one day, after pulling another all-nighter, I received a message from an old college classmate. He was the same guy who'd stood beside me at the Northbridge University anniversary and warned Leighton to appreciate what she had. After the divorce, he was the only college friend I still kept in touch with. When he'd first learned what happened between Leighton and me, he'd been furious. He insisted on taking people to seek jus

A sticky sensation lingered on the back of my hand. For the first time in my life, Leighton's touch made me feel something from the bottom of my heart—disgust.Expressionless, I pulled my hand away. Then I grabbed a napkin and slowly wiped the back of my hand clean.I answered her, enunciating each word clearly, "Leighton, I gave you a chance. Stop doing this. Otherwise, I'm afraid I'll feel sick to my stomach every time I think of you."The color instantly drained from her face. Her lips trembled as if she still wanted to say something.Just then, a familiar figure burst into the cafe."Leighton! I knew you'd come looking for him!" Harley pointed at me, his face twisted with resentment and frustration. "Are you really going to drive me to my death before you'll divorce him?"Fine! I'll go hang myself at your parents' house right now! After all, you don't seem to care about giving them the grandchild they've been waiting for all these years!"With that, Harley covered his face

  • Her Last Goodbye   Chapter 9

It probably started on the night of our eighth wedding anniversary, the night Leighton abandoned me at home and insisted on going to Harley."So that was why you gave me those two choices that night. You were forcing me to get rid of Harley. And you were that certain he'd come looking for you afterward?"Men understand men.A man like Harley—vain and from an ordinary background—had finally managed to attach himself to someone like Leighton. There was no way he could just let go like that.Young men always think their youth and their bodies are their greatest assets, so they treat them like chips they can squander however they please. He thought all he had to do was come provoke me a little and I'd lose my composure. The truth was, at the time, I didn't have enough evidence. The private folder could've been dismissed as something fabricated.Leighton could have easily explained the photos and messages Harley sent me.Nevertheless, surveillance footage doesn't lie.I knew Leigh

Crying, Harley ran to Leighton. Right in front of everyone's stunned eyes, he grabbed her other arm.He pulled out a pregnancy test showing two lines."Professor Chambers, didn't you promise me you'd get divorced? You're carrying my child! Are you really going to abandon me and our baby?"At that exact moment, a PowerPoint presentation appeared on the large screen behind him.The contents were all too familiar. I'd painstakingly put that presentation together myself.A murmur of shock rippled through the crowd.Leighton's face instantly drained of color. Without the slightest hesitation, she shook Harley's hand off."What nonsense are you talking about? I don't even know you!"Nonetheless, Harley clung to her like a leech.Every time she pushed him away, he latched right back on.The more desperately Leighton tried to deny their relationship, the more shocking Harley's revelations became."Honey, why are you saying that? You were the one who took my virginity. You promised y

The disciplinary probation didn't seem to affect Harley at all. If anything, he looked even more pleased with himself than the last time we met."You older guys really don't see the big picture. After all that fuss, all you wanted was 70% of the assets? Professor Chambers is still young. It won’t be long before she makes it all back—and then some!"I didn't bother responding. Just like last time, his attempts to provoke me had no effect whatsoever.Still, if he wanted to play this game, I was more than happy to play along.I took a sip of coffee and said casually, "I'm not the one refusing to get divorced."But you're right about one thing. As long as we haven't finalized the divorce, I'm still her legal husband. Half of everything she earns is still mine."As for you? You're nothing more than a secret lover, an affair in the shadows."I watched with interest as resentment gradually spread across Harley's face. Then I pressed harder, slowly dismantling his composure piece by pi

Fury flashed across Leighton's face. She looked like she wanted to say something.Unfortunately, the relentless ringing of the university calling left her with no choice but to answer."Professor Chambers, members of the disciplinary committee are already on their way. Please return to campus immediately."The voice on the other end was concise and professional, leaving no room for argument.Smiling, I tapped the face of my watch. "You should get going. Wouldn't want to keep the administration waiting."Your precious Moon should be arriving any minute now. Are you really going to let him face this storm alone?”After Leighton left, I finally let out a long breath and lowered myself into a chair, using the table for support. The moment I heard the front door open earlier, I'd already sent the screenshots Harley had sent me, the contents of the private folder, and the surveillance footage from the cafe to the university administration. To make sure the scandal gained enough atten

Just as I'd expected, Leighton chose the first option. It wasn't just because she was afraid of jeopardizing her future, but she couldn't bear to let even the slightest stain tarnish her Moon.So when Harley came looking for me, I wasn't surprised. In fact, I'd been hoping he would.I chose a qui

I used to be cheerful and optimistic—the life of the party among my family and friends. How did I end up like this? The truth was, I considered getting a divorce the moment I discovered Leighton's affair.Back then, she was the one who threw away her pride and begged me for a whole month, swearin

The sudden light made Leighton Chambers instinctively squeeze her eyes shut. The tear tracks on her face became painfully clear and glaring. All at once, the scene struck me as absurd.Back when we were younger, he'd thrown herself in front of a steel bar swung by a street thug to protect me, near
