How laughable. One got himself engaged while the other was already betrothed.

“Miriam, what are you doing here?” Chase growled. His gaze returned to mine and did not stray as he addressed the so called Miriam.

She bounced over to Chase and clutched his arm, leaning heavily into him with her annoyingly full chest.

My eyes flicked from her hold to Chase’s face, silently begging him to shake her off. He did not.

“I’m here to see you, silly.” She giggled, batting long lashes up at Chase.

I blinked. Her existence felt like a thorn in my side.

“And who is this?” She asked, scanning me from head to toes with barely concealed distaste.

I scoffed and shook my head, disappointment in Chase. I did not know how to process the fact that he was actually betrothed and his silence brought me no ease.

I needed to be as far away from him as possible. My eyes pricked and my cheeks burned but I would be damned if I gave them the satisfaction of a reaction.
