Chapter 3 - AFTER THEY COLLIDED

last update 최신 업데이트: 2026-02-21 00:04:43

The elevator doors slid open on the 50th floor, Andrea walked out clutching the orientation papers HR had given her onto her chest.

The building felt different up here; it was quieter, sharper and more controlled. Glass walls reflected moving figures in tailored suits, and conversations were carried out in low, efficient tones. Even the air here smelled expensive.

She took a deep breath, it was still hard to believe she actually worked here now.

Andrea adjusted the strap of her bag and glanced at the directions; Analytics department, on the third floor. Desk B47. The directions were simple enough, but the hallways stretched endlessly in identical polished lines.

She walked quickly, trying to look like she belonged. Though her attention split between office labels and the paper in her hand as she turned a corner.

Then "boom" she collided with someone.

The impact knocked the breath from her lungs. She stumbled, arms flailing, the orientation paper flying from her hands

"Shit," she muttered, dropping to her knees immediately and scrambling to gather them.

The man she'd hit stood perfectly still, looking down at the mess with an expression of mild annoyance. The kind of face that would've been handsome if it wasn't currently looking at her like she'd just ruined his day.

"I'm so sorry," Andrea said quickly, grabbing papers as fast as she could. "I wasn't looking where I was going…"

"Yeah…clearly." His voice was cold and clipped.

Andrea looked up sharply.

He was still standing there. Not helping. Just watching her scramble around on the floor like this was somehow entertaining. "Are you going to help, or just stand there?" she asked, her tone sharper than she intended.

His eyebrow arched. "I wasn't the one running through hallways like a missing baby,"

"I wasn't running. I was walking."

"Without looking."

Andrea felt her temper rising, she stood with papers clutched messily in her arms, and met his gaze head-on. "Look, I said I was sorry. What more do you want? Maybe if you watched where you’re going you too, you wouldn’t bump into people in the hallways.”

"Do I look like someone who isn't careful? You walked into me.” he said with a straight face “and what are you even doing on this floor, this isn’t your place of work."

Her face heated. "How do you know I'm on the wrong floor?

"Because this is the executive level." He tilted his head slightly. "And you're clearly not an executive." The condescension in his voice made her blood boil.

"Right...because only people like you are allowed up here?" Andrea crossed her arms, papers crinkling against her chest. "Maybe you should put up a velvet rope. It really makes it clear who belongs and who doesn't."

Something flickered in his eyes, something more like irritation. But before he could respond, heels clicked rapidly down the hallway. A woman in a tailored black suit appeared, slightly out of breath. Her eyes flicked nervously between them.

"Sir, I'm sorry to interrupt, but it's nine o'clock and your…."

He raised one hand. The woman stopped mid-sentence. "Not now, Lindsay," he said, his eyes never leaving Andrea's face.

Lindsay's opened mouth, closed immediately. Then she nodded quickly and disappeared back down the hallway.

Andrea's irritation was now mixed with unwanted curiosity. “Who’s this man?”

"I can see you're clearly lost, Miss," he said with an unreadable expression

“I’m not…”

He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "Your department is two floors down,"

Heat flooded Andrea's face, she forced her expression to remain neutral even as embarrassment crawled under her skin.

"Oh...Thanks," she said stiffly.

He stepped back, cleared his throat and adjusted his cuff with deliberate precision. "Try not to run into anyone else."

Andrea turned and walked toward the elevator with a spine rigid, refusing to let him see how flustered she was.

After a few steps, she couldn't bear the annoyance so she stopped and turned "....and try not to stand in hallways like a statue, so people wouldn't run into you." she countered. Then walked away without waiting for a response.

Henry’s eyes gleamed. "A statue?" He couldn’t believe his ears, no one has ever spoken to him like that. Most people could barely make eye contact with him. Women especially; they smiled too much around him, laughed at things that weren't funny, found excuses to touch his arm or lean in close when they talked.

But this particular woman had looked him straight in the eye, snapped at him twice and walked away like he was nothing more than an inconvenience.

Henry stood there, watching her as she walked towards the elevator. His mouth curved slightly.

Interesting.

He turned and headed toward his office, but his mind stayed on her. She was beautiful, that much was obvious but what caught his attention more was her fire, she had a spine. And Henry had spent two years surrounded by people who were too afraid to show him anything real.

When the elevator doors finally closed, she exhaled slowly. Her mind spiraling about who exactly the man she'd just bumped into was. Andrea shook her head, trying to clear the incident from her thoughts. He was probably just another arrogant executive who thought the building belonged to him.

The elevator opened on the correct floor this time. The analytics department looked calmer and more welcoming. She found Desk B47 quickly and set her bag down, grateful for something normal to focus on.

But as her computer powered on, her mind drifted back to the guy in the hallway again. “How did he even know where my department was?” Andrea pressed her lips together and forced herself to focus on the screen.

She had work to do.

Across the building, Henry Moore turned and headed toward his office, but his mind stayed on her. She was beautiful, that much was obvious but what caught his attention more was her fire, she had a spine. And Henry had spent two years surrounded by people who were too afraid to show him anything real.

His phone buzzed from a reminder about the nine o'clock meeting.

Henry pulled it out, and sent a message to one of the executives. "Reschedule... the board meeting?"

"For when, sir?" the guy on the other line replied immediately

"I'll let you know."

He didn't offer an explanation. Henry stood alone in his office, his hands in his pocket and his mind still on the lady he'd just met. He didn't know her name yet, but he would. Soon.

And when he did, he'd make sure she never looked at him like a stranger again.

Because the woman who'd just walked away from him; defiant, sharp-tongued, and completely unimpressed had done something no one else had managed to do in years. And she'd made him curious

  • Her Only Exception   Chapter 10 – Accidental Encounters

Andrea couldn't sleep. She'd spent the whole night tossing and turning her mind replaying the email from HR over and over until the words were burned into her brain.By the time her alarm went off at 6 AM, Andrea was already awake and absolutely livid. She got dressed with sharp, angry movements; pulled her hair back into a sleek ponytail and applied her makeup perfectly because she'd be damned if she walked in there looking rattled. If Henry Moore wanted to play games, fine. She could play too.Andrea arrived at Crestview at 8:12 AM, her jaw set and her hands steady despite the fury simmering beneath her skin. When she walked past the analytics department, her old desk was already cleared. Everything was gone; her coffee mug, notebooks and even the small succulent Rachel had given her. All of it packed neatly into a cardboard box sitting on an empty chair. Like she'd never existed there at all.Rachel and Emily weren't in yet, but Alex was. He looked up as Andrea approached, his expr

  • Her Only Exception   Chapter 9 – I WANT YOU CLOSE

In the afternoon, Henry had back-to-back meetings. The last one was a department presentation on Q4 projections, normally something he'd send Marcus to handle. But when he saw Andrea's name on the attendee list, he cleared his schedule. He told himself it was because he wanted to see how she handled herself in a corporate setting but that was a lie.The conference room was packed when Henry walked in at 2:48 PM. Conversations died instantly and people straightened in their seats quickly.Henry didn't acknowledge anyone just moved straight to the head of the table and sat down, his expression unreadable."You can continue," he said.Robert Harrington, the senior manager running the presentation nodded quickly "of course, Mr. Moore."Henry's gaze swept the room and landed on Andrea. She was sitting near the middle of the table, a folder open in front of her and pen in hand. She looked professional, focused and completely unaware that he was watching her.Harrington launched into the pre

  • Her Only Exception   Chapter 8 - WHISPER'S IN THE HALLWAY

Monday morning hit Andrea like a freight train. She'd spent the entire weekend trying and failing not to think about the elevator incident and now she had to face him at work.Andrea arrived at 8:55 AM, clutching her coffee like a lifeline. She'd finished the Hillcrest analysis on Sunday night, printed it out, and left it on Henry's desk before anyone else arrived this morning. She wasn't giving him any excuse to fire her, she needs this job.She made her way to her desk, keeping her head down. Rachel was already there, scrolling through emails while Emily sat across from them, organizing a stack of files."Morning," Rachel said, glancing up with a smile. "You survived your first week.""Barely," Andrea muttered, dropping into her chair.Emily laughed. "It gets easier or you get numb to it. One of the two."Andrea was about to respond when Alex one of their team members appeared, practically vibrating with excitement."Did you guys hear?" he said, leaning against Rachel's desk.Rachel

  • Her Only Exception   Chapter 7 - EVEN AT DINNER

Saturday MorningAndrea woke up to sunlight streaming through her bedroom window and the sound of her phone buzzing on the nightstand. She reached for it, squinting at the screen.Mindy: Morning! Picking you up in an hour. Grandma's expecting us at noon. Don't be late!Andrea groaned as she sat up, Henry’s whisper still echoing in her mind. I want you. She shoved the covers aside. “Stop thinking about that arrogant man.”A few minutes later, she pulled on dark jeans and a soft beige sweater, tying her hair into a simple ponytail. By the time Mindy knocked on her door forty-five minutes later, Andrea was ready."Morning, sunshine," Mindy said cheerfully, handing Andrea a coffee cup "You look like you didn't sleep." "You always know exactly what I need." She muttered, taking the coffee.Mindy grinned. "That's why you love me. Come on, let's go before your grandma thinks we forgot about her."The drive to Grandma's house took about forty minutes. Mindy drove while Andrea stared out the

  • Her Only Exception   Chapter 6 - TRAPPED TOGETHER

By Friday afternoon, Andrea was exhausted. She'd spent the entire week trying to understand the Hillcrest deal. Harrington had barely helped, just threw files at her and said "figure it out." She stayed late every night, analyzing data and trying not to drown. And through it all, she'd been avoiding Henry. She made sure to take the stairs instead of the elevator, leave her desk when he walked by and keep her head down in meetings to avoid his gaze. Now it was past six on Friday, and she just wanted to go home and rest. She grabbed her bag and headed for the elevators. The floor was mostly empty.Andrea pressed the button, her mind already on her apartment, a hot shower and her bed. The doors opened and Henry was inside. Their eyes met and for a moment neither of them moved. Henry's hand shot out, holding the door. "Getting in?"She should say no and wait for the next ride but Andrea was tired, bone-deep tired, and after all it was just an elevator ride. "Yeah," she said quietly, step

  • Her Only Exception   Chapter 5 – THAT'S THE CEO?

It was three days into her new job, and Andrea hadn't embarrassed herself yet. That felt like a win. She'd watched about six training videos, filled out a bunch of HR forms so when Harrington told her about the meeting, it almost sounded like a break. "Department meeting with CEO in conference room A. Ten o'clock. Don't be late." He didn't explain what it was about. Just walked away before she could ask anything else.Andrea arrived five minutes early. The conference room was huge, long glass table, leather chairs, elegant windows overlooking the city. About fifteen people were already there, mostly from the analytics department. A few executives she'd never seen before sat at the head of the table. She took a seat near the back and opened her notebook, trying to look like she belonged. The room filled up quickly. People were talking quietly, but there was tension in the air. Like everyone was waiting for something. Then the door opened again. Andrea glanced up and her entire life fl
