Chapter 2

Author: Ginger King
Seeing us tugging each other, a dark look flashed across Sean’s eyes. However, it was quickly replaced by a wounded expression.

“William… Juniper… Both of you… William, I know you’re upset, but… but Juniper is my fiancée now. How could you try to seduce her?”

I almost laughed from disbelief.

Before I could even respond, Juniper immediately let go of me and walked over to hold Sean’s hand.

“Sean, don’t be upset. No matter what your brother does, you’re the only person in my heart.”

Just like that, she pinned the label of “trying to steal his brother’s fiancée” onto me.

Unfortunately, Dad arrived just in time to hear everything.

He exploded in rage, “William Hale! Have you no shame at all, openly seducing your own brother’s fiancée right in front of me like that? How did we raise such a disgraceful son! Get out! Get the hell out of my house!”

He grabbed me roughly and dragged me toward the door. Then, he threw both me and my luggage out of the house. Standing above me at the entrance, he looked down coldly as I lay on the ground.

“And don’t forget the money we spent raising you. I didn’t raise you for eighteen years so you could freeload forever. I’m giving you six months to repay every cent of that one hundred thousand dollars in living expenses! If you don’t pay it back, I’ll sue you!”

I snorted.

One hundred thousand dollars for raising me?

Ever since I was old enough to remember, I had been the unpaid laborer of this family. As a child, I carried heavy boxes every day and handled all the exhausting chores at home. They wouldn’t even let me eat enough food. Before I turned twelve, I didn’t even know what an allowance was.

If anyone did the math on the money they spent on me, it probably wouldn’t even total to twenty thousand dollars. However, I was too exhausted to argue anymore. I wanted nothing to do with them again.

With no money and nowhere to go, I dragged my suitcase to the police station. The officers there were surprisingly kind in offering to buy me a hot meal.

As the warm food settled in my stomach, my eyes burned slightly. Still, I forced myself not to cry. Even strangers treated me with kindness, yet my parents discarded me like trash.

In my previous life, I had been weak and cowardly, allowing monsters to destroy my entire life. This time, I decided things had to change, and first, I needed a job that could keep me alive.

Back then, I had studied nursing through night classes. So, becoming a male nurse was the best option I could think of right now. Hospitals were always short on hardworking orderlies anyway.

After sending out my résumé, I felt hopeful about the future for the very first time. However, of course, someone just had to ruin my good mood.

A text message suddenly popped up. It was from Juniper.

[William, the things I said at home were only to calm Sean down. He’s in poor health, so he can’t handle emotional stress. Don’t take it personally. I own an apartment. I’ll send you the address. You can live there for now. I don’t need you embarrassing me in public.]

The moment I saw the address, I felt nauseous.

Here we go again.

In my previous life, she played the role of the devoted lover in front of Sean. However, behind closed doors, she treated me like some disposable toy she could stash away whenever she wanted.

What she wanted was Sean’s affection and my body. She wanted me obedient and silent, like an object without thoughts or feelings, staying exactly where she placed me and waiting to sacrifice everything for the man she truly loved.

Yet, what choice did I have? In the capital, the Greens practically ruled the city. As long as Juniper said no, I wouldn’t be able to escape, no matter where I ran. Not to mention, I could barely even afford food right now.

At that thought, I clenched my fists tightly. A real man wouldn’t cry, and I refused to lose again.

Just then, my phone rang once more. When I opened it, I realized one of the hospitals I had applied to had replied to my résumé. At last, there was some good news.

Early the next morning, I went to the private hospital for the interview. After passing both the interview and practical assessment, I successfully got hired as a male carer in the VIP special care ward.

The head nurse brought me to my first assignment in a luxury suite on the top floor.

“William Hale? The patient in there is of high standing and has a rather short temper. She’s already scared away three carers. You look sturdy enough. Work hard, and the pay will be worth it.”

I pushed open the door to see a woman in a wheelchair. There was something cool about her, with her long hair casually tied back. She carried an unmistakable air of nobility and aloofness.

Hearing the sound, the woman slowly turned her wheelchair around. The moment our eyes met, both of us froze.

I had assumed that after I spoke so harshly that time, Juniper would finally stop bothering me. However, one week later, she showed up outside the villa and knelt there in the rain, refusing to get up.“William! I was wrong! I’ll give you half of Green Inc.’s shares. Just forgive me!” she shouted, her eyes bloodshot. From inside the gate, I stood with Cleo and watched coldly. The Green Inc. was already on its last legs. Many internal shareholders were desperately trying to offload their stakes. Offering me shares to make up for her mistakes was rubbish. At that moment, a car screeched to a stop at the entrance. Sean got out, storming toward her in rage.“Juniper! Have you lost your mind, begging this man? You’re humiliating me!”Juniper lifted her head slowly, her gaze ice-cold.“Get lost. Sean, it’s over. The engagement is canceled.”“You’re breaking off the engagement for him? Why don’t you look at what this is, Juniper?” Sean laughed bitterly, then pulled out two marriage cer

After that day, Juniper never appeared in front of me again. Meanwhile, ever since my rebirth, I had been secretly gathering evidence against Green Inc. They were things I had learned during my past life while staying by Juniper’s side. I honestly didn’t know whether Juniper was too careless or whether she simply never saw me as a threat. Even now, she had yet to deal with any of the loopholes in her company. At this point, the Hale family had become deeply tied to Green Inc. If Green Inc. collapsed, then all of my dad’s years of planning would go down with it. Just thinking about it made me look forward to what was coming. After handing all the evidence over to Cleo, I stopped involving myself further. Business warfare was her specialty. Soon enough, rumors about Green Inc.’s situation began appearing across tabloids and financial news reports. At the same time, Cleo started aggressively targeting Green Inc.’s business operations from every angle. Even though Green Inc. dominate

“Your legs…” I stared at her in shock, my eyes wide. However, after making sure I could stand steadily, Cleo sat back down in her wheelchair.“Surprised?” She smiled at me.“Juniper is arrogant and full of herself. If she finds out I’ve recovered, she’ll come after me like a rabid dog. She’ll even work with other forces to suppress my company. The best way to lower an enemy’s guard is to appear weak. Only when she thinks she’s guaranteed to win is the perfect time to deal the fatal blow.”My heart pounded as I listened, yet I couldn’t help admiring her foresight because Juniper really was that kind of person. Juniper was arrogant and conceited; she looked down on anyone weaker than herself. In my previous life, wasn’t it exactly because she believed Cleo was disabled and harmless that she had the nerve to humiliate Cleo however she wanted?“Then… why are you telling me this?” I looked at her, my emotions complicated. This was her trump card, her greatest weapon against the Green

Cleo sat in a wheelchair, followed by four stone-faced bodyguards and the hospital director, whose face had gone completely pale. The bodyguards pushed her straight toward us. The moment she saw the mess I was in, her fingers tightened around the armrest until her knuckles turned white.“Miss Juniper, laying hands on my fiancé in my territory…” She paused before shooting Juniper a sharp, icy glare and said, “You have no right to do that.”“Fiancé?”As if she’d just heard the most ridiculous joke in the world, disbelief filled Juniper’s face. She stared at me desperately, searching for even the slightest sign that this was all a prank.“William, tell me she’s lying! How could you possibly… How could someone like you deserve to be her fiancé?”“It’s true,” I said firmly. “Just a moment ago, I accepted Cleo’s proposal.”Juniper’s face went pale. Then, her eyes reddened with fury.“No. I won’t allow it! William, you’re my husband! Without my permission, nobody is taking you away! Y

Juniper’s gaze suddenly landed on the phone I had dropped on the floor. The screen was still lit up on the recent calls page. She immediately recognized that the latest number I had dialed belonged to Cleo Summers. Her expression darkened instantly. Through gritted teeth, she demanded, “William, why do you have Cleo Summers’s number? When did you get involved with her?”Before I could answer, Sean suddenly gasped dramatically from behind her. “Oh my god, William! So that’s why you ran off earlier, to call Miss Cleo? I know you want revenge against Juniper and all, but I never thought you’d stoop this low. How could you be so shameless as to seduce Juniper’s arch-enemy? You’re nothing but a turncoat!”The anger in Juniper’s eyes intensified. She grabbed my chin so hard it felt like she wanted to crush the bone beneath her fingers.“William! Do you have no shame at all? How dare you crawl into another woman’s bed and cheat on me? Are you that desperate for women?”Looking at her fur

The moment I heard the word “fiancé,” I instinctively thought she was messing with me. A look of shock crossed my face. Before I could refuse, she pulled out her phone and typed out her contact number.“You don’t have to answer me right away. Take your time and think about it. This is my private number. If you’ve changed your mind or run into any trouble you can’t handle, call me anytime.”I memorized the number. Just then, her attending physician arrived to take her for another round of examinations, leaving me alone in the hospital room. My thoughts were a complete mess as I walked out into the hallway, and that was when I ran into Sean. The second he saw me, he raised an eyebrow smugly. “What are you doing here, William? Oh, right. I almost forgot. Mom and Dad kicked you out. Are you working as a carer now?”I said nothing, but the head nurse standing behind him immediately rushed to flatter him. “Yes, Mr. Sean. William was newly hired today.”I turned to leave, but Sean s
