“Dad!” Seraphine’s voice rang sharply through the study.

Lord Wycliffe, one of the elder council members, barely lifted his gaze from the stack of documents in front of him. His pen stilled for only a moment before he sighed and looked up at his daughter. “What is it now, Sera?”

“You have to do something,” she snapped. “Lucien. He’s giving his attention to someone else.”

“And why, exactly, is that my concern?” Lord Wycliffe arched a brow.

Seraphine stepped forward, the heels of her shoes tapping against the marble floor. “Because he was supposed to be mine. We had an understanding. You promised me he’d be within reach once the alliance talks resumed.”

“I promised you opportunity,” he said flatly. “What you do with it is your responsibility. Clearly, you’re losing grip.”

“I’m not losing anything,” she snapped. “That girl, she’s the problem. She’s manipulative, probably using her looks to reel Lucien and Caelum in. And they’re falling for it. Both of them.”
