Chapter Fourteen

Pregnant.

I looked back to Ariezel's frame, lying on the hospital bed. She remained thin, almost sickly. She wasn't how I'd imagine a pregnant woman to be.

And yet, she was pregnant for weeks, probably before she even came here.

“You may leave.” I ordered the pack doctor, feeling her stiffen beside me.

“Yes, Alpha Blackwell.” she bowed and scuttled out of sight.

I paid no mind to her as I looked at the only one who mattered.

Her red tresses flowed down the hospital bed, framing her face. The slight dark circles under her eyes. It felt like she was exposed to the world. Vulnerable.

I sat beside her, but didn't dare touch. Her skin looked as pale as paper, and I feared that one touch was going to break her apart.

Someone had abused her. And I was damn sure that that person and the father of her child was the damn same person.

I remembered what she said, about why she ran away. There was someone she was betrothed to. And he…

“He wasn't a good person.” she had said.
