Emma’s POV

The words sounded so venomous to me. Like they were filled with hate and spite.

Is this man okay? I thought to myself, trying to comprehend why he was having such an attitude with me. We’ve never spoken before for Christ’s sake. So why on earth was he talking to me like we were fighting? Like I was a slave and he’s my master.

There wasn’t anything that didn’t go through my head for the next couple of seconds as I tried to gather words to explain why I was late.

Yes, I acknowledged the fact that I was late. But he should have acknowledged and appreciated the fact that I showed up.

“Sit down,” he gestures towards the chair I was sitting on before for me to take a seat again.

He walks past me to take a seat opposite me and watches me as I sit down. I don’t look at him, but I feel his eyes on me, watching my every move.

“Hello, Liam,” I say to him, finally meeting his eyes. Of course, his gaze was already fixated on me.

“Hello, Emma. You look lovely today,” he replied to me with a slight smirk plastered on his lips. There was a brief twinkle in his eyes that screamed mischief, but it was wiped out in a second.

“As you already know, we’re getting married,” he continues with a serious look on his face. “Now the reason I called you here this morning is to discuss the terms of this marriage”.

“Terms?” I asked with a brow raised.

“Yes, the terms,” he replies while shuffling through some papers on his desk before eventually pulling out two papers that were stapled together.

“In the spirit of trying to maintain some normality in all this for you, I’ve refrained from having my lawyer in this room with us right now. However, if you decide to act up, I’ll have no choice but to get him involved,” he says while crossing his arms across his chest and leaning back in his seat.

Wow. This guy is full of himself.

The first encounter I had with him was about five years ago or so when I followed my dad to his dad’s office. They had some kind of meeting and I had to wait for my dad there. I saw Liam talking to some staff at the office that day and he sounded so rude and disrespectful but I decided to not think much about it because I couldn’t have known what caused him to speak to them that way at that time.

But now? Now I see that’s how he is. He’s arrogant and self-absorbed. His character was honestly appalling and I was not doing a great job at hiding my irritation on my face, hence his next words.

“Fix your face,” he tells me, sitting back up straight.

This man is unreal.

“Excuse me?” I asked with a raised voice.

“Kindly lower your tone,” he says sternly.

Okay, so he’s commanding.

“I won’t have you talk to me like that in my office. I won’t take such disrespect from you or anyone for that matter,” he continues with a deep voice that commands respect.

“Sorry,” I muttered. I don’t know why I apologized but I just found myself apologizing.

My cheeks were flushed and I felt embarrassed for some reason.

“Now, as I was saying,” he holds up the paper to read its contents. “The wedding is going to take place at my family estate in two months. Saturday the 11th to be precise. It's not going to be too big, but expect the press to be there. We’re going to be married for three years, and considering we’re going to be living together, having partners from outside would not be welcomed in our home”.

He paused to look at me. “Am I going too fast?” he asked.

I simply shook my head to signify a no and imply he should continue.

He nods. “Per my last statement, you’re allowed to have relations with whoever you want, but keep it out of my house, and I’ll do the same. Also, make sure to keep whatever you do out of the sight of the press. I’m not interested in them carrying out news of a cheating scandal. You won’t like the consequences of that, trust me”.

“Is that a threat?” I interrupt him with my question.

“It’s not a threat. I’m just stating facts,” he replies, looking me dead in the eye.

“What else is there?” I asked still maintaining eye contact with him.

“The last thing on here is to expect a lot of parties. I’m part of several high-class societies and that means we’ll be hosting several lunch and dinner parties, so, be prepared for all that,” he places the paper down. “Any questions?” he leans back into his seat again.

It was at that moment I began to take in his facial features and got to see how his face was shaped. With the way he backed the sun, it cast a shadow that gave off a perfect outline of his sharply chiseled jaw. He had beautiful, silky black, hair and gorgeous blue eyes that had a hint of green to them. His cheekbones weren’t well defined but they had an outline and his lips were the prettiest shade of pink I had ever seen on a man

I noticed he had a small scar on the left side of his chin and was wondering how that got there, but I was quickly pulled out of my thoughts when Liam called my name.

“Emma,” he raised a brow in amusement.

“Yes,” I said a bit startled

“I said, do you have any questions?” I see a smirk appear on his face yet again but this one stays on longer and I know it’s because he could tell I was gawking at him.

Shit.

I look down in embarrassment and try to hide how red my cheeks have gotten but it doesn’t work because I hear him let out a small laugh.

My God, his laugh was heavenly.

“Alright then. That’s all there is to discuss for now,” he says while rearranging the stack of papers on his desk.

I simply nod and stand up, heading to the door as fast as possible.

“Emma,” he stops me in my tracks as I’m about to wrap my fingers on the door handle.

“Yes,” I turn around.

“I’ll have my assistant reach out to you on any more updates,” he still has that smirk plastered on his face.

He’s enjoying this. He’s enjoying making me feel this way.

“Okay,” I say and leave hastily.

What just happened? I think to myself as I rush out of the building.

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-Three

Liam’s POVLast night, as Emma and I were at her parents' place, while she spoke with her mum just before we left, it hit me that to properly start this new journey with Emma, whereby our marriage is free from anything linking back to the initial agreement that got us married in the first place, I had to cancel the deal my father has made with hers two years ago. Of course, that wasn’t a conversation that was going to happen on the spot. However, it didn’t feel right to have it drag any further than it needed to. So, while Emma was engrossed in conversation with her mother, I spoke to her father in a hushed tone, asking him to come to my office this morning for a talk. It wasn’t a conversation that I wanted to involve Emma in until things between him and I were settled, so, while Emma was a bit upset with me this morning, as we both got ready for work, because I chose to continuously evade giving her an answer when she asked what he and I spoke about last night in hushed tones, I fi

Emma’s POVThe next day, after Liam and I made the engagement official with a ring, he and I headed to his mother’s place to pick Amelia up and, while there, she obviously saw the ring, which led to us spilling the news. As expected, she was ecstatic about it and was more than ready to burst into event planner mode, just as she did when he and I were getting mercies the first time. While I appreciated her kindness and willingness to do it, I didn’t want this ceremony to be as big or loud as the first one, especially since the press and the world already had the idea that Liam and I were already married. I wasn’t ready to raise any suspicions nor did we have any proper excuses we were ready to give if the event was publicized. I mean, if we said we were renewing our vows, who would believe us, especially when we’d been married for less than three years? That aside, I really did want this ceremony to be small and intimate – my perfect dream wedding. When I told Maria that I wanted a s

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-One

Liam’s POVIt was currently Friday, meaning Emma has officially been back to work for a full week now. On the other hand, it also means that it had been six days of me asking her to remarry me and her telling me that she needed to think about it. I wasn’t about to pressure her more than she already was, so I tried to distract myself from it by immersing myself in work this weekend while at home with her. At the same time, I wanted her to also feel relaxed, so I sent Amelia away with my mother for the day to give Emma room to catch a breath this weekend. “Hey, are you up?” Emma’s voice spoke up from behind my bedroom door following a knock. I didn’t want to stress my voice by shouting a response, so I stood up from my desk and went over to the door. “Good morning,” I greeted her with a small smile as I opened my door. “How are you?” I asked, leaning on the door frame with my arms folded across my chest. “I’m good,” she nodded, unable to maintain eye contact with me. “You?”“I’m fin

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Seventy

Emma’s POVAfter hours of work that were mixed with hours of contemplation following me and Liam’s conversation from that morning, the work day was finally over, and it was time for me to go home. I knew that if I went home, I would have to confront the situation at hand between Liam and me, which I was not prepared to do, at least not before talking to Sammy first, and since I felt this was a conversation that I had to have with her face to face, I did the same thing of calling Liam ahead to let him know I’d be coming home late. “Hey,” his raspy, tired voice spoke up as he picked up the call. “How are you?”“I’m good, how are you?”“I’m okay”.“Are you sure,” I asked, worried. “You sound tired and stressed out. Are you still at the office?”“Yeah, I am. I’m tired, but I have a case I’m working on right now and want to try and make some progress with it before leaving here”. “Hm. Alright then. Just take it easy please”. “Yeah, I will,” he said. I could practically hear the smile i

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Sixty-Nine

Emma’s POVThroughout my drive to the office, all I could think about were Liam’s last words to me before he left the house. Considering how shocked I was by everything he had said, it goes without saying that I had no adequate response to give him at that moment. All I could muster at that point was, “I’ll think about it”. Shit. One thing for sure was that I know I definitely didn’t even say those words in a reassuring tone or anything, because the way his face fell once the words left my mouth was enough to let me know that he was disappointed. In my defense though, it was all too sudden. I felt cornered and just didn’t know what to do.“Emma! Hi!” my coworker, Dina, startled me out of my reverie as she knocked on my window. “Hey, Dina,” I rolled down my window and smiled at her. “You startled me”. “I’m sorry,” she laughed. “One of the janitors mentioned he saw you pull in a few minutes ago and, since you hadn’t come in yet, I decided to come down and check on you”. When she sa

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Sixty-Eight

Emma’s POVIt had been a bit over four months since I gave birth to Amelia, and it was finally time for me to go back to work. Normally, I should’ve resumed last month, but the management of the Fashion House asked me to stay back a while longer because they didn’t want to stress me out and all that. I definitely wasn’t going to argue with them, so I obliged, but I kept it down to a month extra because, truth be told, while I’ve been having the time of my life caring for my daughter, it’s been very exhausting and I need a break. I need to get some normalcy back in my life and the only way I can achieve that is by going back to work. Thankfully, today was finally the day. “Emma!” my mum’s voice called out to me from behind the front door after she had knocked. “Coming!” I responded, placing Amelia down on one of the chairs in the living room and rushing to open the door for my mum. “Hey, mum,” I hugged her. “Thanks for coming,” I said, stepping aside for her to walk in. “No need to
