Chapter 2

Author: Spring Blade
The concern in Ashley's voice warmed my heart. But when I thought of that so-called home, I couldn't help but let out a self-deprecating laugh.

"I came out to buy a few things and forgot my keys."

Ashley didn't call me out on my flimsy lie.

I wanted to pay her back for my medical bills, but when I checked my pockets, I realized I hadn't brought a single thing with me after being kicked out of the house.

Ashley waved it off dismissively. "Don't worry about it. Consider it a Christmas gift, since you're our top salesperson."

Ashley bought me a new set of clothes and a new phone as well. Before leaving, she looked at me.

"Wesley, the company has a project overseas, and we need more people on board. If you're up for it, give me a call. If everything goes well, I'll make you the general manager of that branch."

She gave me a quick nod before turning to leave.

During my marriage to Faith, I often had to juggle my career with holding the household together. Whenever the company needed someone to go on business trips, I always turned them down.

I had done that because I wanted Faith to always have a hot meal waiting for her at home. And in doing so, I'd missed out on many opportunities.

I recalled everything Faith had done. Ever since we got married, she had been cold and distant toward me. She often used work as an excuse to come home late.

The truth was, she had been meeting Henry behind my back.

One time, when she got drunk, he was the one who carried her to bed. They slept in each other's arms, and I got cast aside, forced to spend the night on the couch.

With that in mind, I didn't hesitate any longer and called Ashley. I told her I was willing to go overseas.

She sounded relieved on the phone. "I'm glad to hear that. I'll book you on the earliest flight available. You'll probably be leaving the country in about three days, so get ready."

After ending the call, I decided to go home and pack. After all, once I went abroad, I wouldn't be coming back often.

Once I had completed the discharge paperwork at the hospital, I headed home. As soon as I opened the door, the stench of blood hit me.

Julian and Henry were in the living room, chatting over coffee. Just then, Lily opened the door and stepped out of the kitchen. When she saw me, her face twisted with disdain.

"Oh, look who remembers he's the housekeeper. The whole house is in a mess, yet you don't even do your job. I don't know why my daughter even hired you in the first place."

Since I was already planning to leave, I had no intention of putting up with their nonsense anymore.

I was about to retort when I saw the trash bag Lily was holding. The outside of the bag was covered in white fleece.

"You're back just in time. Take this trash downstairs and get rid of it. Once you're done, come back right away and cook for us."

Something cold settled in my chest.

I opened the bag and found a strip of sheepskin inside. I recognized it immediately. It was Fluffy, the sheep I'd had for eight years.

I didn't dare think about what it could mean. I flung the trash bag aside, shoved Lily out of the way, and dashed into the kitchen.

As soon as I stepped inside, I went limp and collapsed to the floor. I saw something bubbling away in the pot. Hanging beside the cabinet were freshly butchered pieces of meat.

"You cooked my sheep?"

I turned and glared at Lily, who replied uneasily, "So that was your sheep? That's right. I cooked it. Well, it's just a sheep. I can always pay you back for it."

Seeing how indifferent Lily was, I felt anger surge within me. Mom had raised Fluffy before she passed away, and he was the only connection I had left to her.

"How dare you kill my sheep! I'm going to kill you!"

Seeing that I was about to resort to violence, Lily immediately backed away in fear. Before I knew it, Henry dashed into the kitchen and shoved me to the floor.

Hearing the commotion, Faith came out of her room. The moment she saw my furious expression, she started yelling at me.

"Wesley, what are you doing? Don't you dare hit my mother!"

Looking at Faith, I suddenly felt sick to the stomach. I had never felt so disgusted by my wife before.

Once the crowd realized who Henry really was, they quietened down. I took advantage of the moment and asked, "Could your invitation be fake too?"The head of security immediately came to his senses and asked to check Henry's invitation. He turned to flee, but the other guards pinned him to the ground, making it impossible for him to move.Faith seemed to finally catch on to what was going on. Despite everything, her emotions got the better of her, and she still hurried forward to help him break free. "Let him go. Don't you know who he is? He's one of the best venture capitalists in the financial industry. Many people would do anything to get his help. Let him go!"Seeing that Faith still refused to accept the truth, I took out my phone and pulled up the information I had saved long ago."Face the reality, Faith. Henry's just a scammer. Back then, you left me because you wanted to live a better life with him, didn't you? Now he's going around, conning people just to get by. I supp

"I'm the general manager of the company," I said.Henry snorted. "You're the general manager of Mega Corporation? Yeah, right."The head of security clearly didn't believe me either and said impatiently, "General manager or not, you need to leave now. This is an exclusive banquet. You can't just walk in without an invitation.""Then what about that guy? Have you checked his invitation?" I pointed at Henry. The head of security was caught off guard. "Mr. Cooper? He's a major client of our company. Of course, he has an invitation." Henry tugged at his tie, looking smug. "You really think you're anything like me? I'm a key client of Mega Corporation. I'm the one who's going to invest a billion dollars in the company. As for you… You're just a broke loser."Hearing that, I couldn't help but frown. I personally handled the screening of all the company's key clients, and I knew every single project under my management. How could I not know about a billion-dollar project? When I didn'

During the entire process, Faith said nothing, looking as though she had been wronged. But Henry was looking at me smugly. This was exactly what he wanted. As soon as we were outside the courthouse, Faith wanted to say something, but I walked away without looking back. From that day on, I never wanted to see her again. When I returned to work, my colleagues congratulated me on finally getting out of a toxic marriage. My situation was no longer a secret. Amid the applause, someone gave me a thumbs-up. "Buddy, you did the right thing."The kindness of the people who barely knew me brought me great comfort.Later, I threw myself into work. Very quickly, I completed a task that should have taken a year, finishing it three months ahead of schedule.Mr. Smith, the chairman, was pleased. Not only did he make me general manager, but he also assigned me several high-value projects, which I completed successfully as well. Slowly, I began to establish myself in the company. Today, Mr

"There's no need for us to meet before the hearing," I said. I didn't want to waste time talking to Faith. Seeing how cold I was, she completely lost her composure. "That's not it. I was just trying to scare you into coming home. "I didn't mean any of it. All of it was Henry's idea. I messed up. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Faith kept pleading with me, no longer as proud and domineering as before. She then forced out a few tears, putting on her best wounded expression. "Henry and I aren't what you think. He's only there to support my career. "You're my husband. You're the only one I want to spend the rest of my life with. Darling, can you give me another chance? Please? I promise I won't ever let you suffer again!" By then, she had already started groveling at my feet. I stepped away to avoid Faith, pretending as if I hadn't seen her. There was no trace of her old arrogance. She was slumped on the ground, guilt and desperation written all over her face.Faith seemed genuinely

"You don't have to come in to work tomorrow," Ashley said. "I hope you understand."The security had already boxed up all my things and left them by the office door. I felt completely hopeless as I watched the life I had finally gotten back on track fall apart again. I couldn't help but pull my phone out and unblock Faith. I wanted to ask her why she had to do this."Will you only be satisfied once you've destroyed me?" I cursed at her. But the second I unblocked Faith on social media, I noticed that she had just made a new post. It was a photo of her and Henry soaking in a hotel bathtub together. The caption read, "You're the one I never want to lose."I calmed down upon seeing the photo. If I called her right now, it'd only turn into another fight where I vented my frustration. That'd be letting those two get off far too easily.I made up my mind to get revenge on Faith and Henry. I saved the recent posts she had made on social media and sent them to my lawyer. At the sa

I stepped off the plane, and the second I cleared the gate, I saw Ashley holding a sign above her head, scanning the crowd for me.Perhaps she was trying to cheer me up. "Oh, right. Faith must be going mad trying to find you now, right?"I shook my head. "I already blocked her. She'll hear from me when it's time for the court hearing."Ashley patted my shoulder gently. "Alright then. From now on, focus on your work. Your future is more important than your love life."In the past, I might have argued with her, but after experiencing heartbreak myself, I knew she was right. Ashley took me to a room the company had assigned to me. It was a small private room, but it was warm and bright. "The company arranged this place specifically for you. You'll start onboarding with me tomorrow. Get familiar with how things work around here."Seeing my hesitation, Ashley patted my shoulder with a smile, offering me some encouragement. "What's up? You're the top salesperson at our company, an
