Savannah

The lecture hall had finally settled into its rhythm when the door creaked open. The sound was enough to pull everyone’s attention, and the shift in the room was almost audible. Some heads turned, and some voices lowered, and that’s when I saw him again.

Julian strolled in as though time bent to him, not the other way around. His blazer hung casually off his shoulder, his hair perfectly in place despite the rush I imagined he hadn’t made. Every step he took was confident, almost theatrical in the way it drew some eyes without him even asking for them.

At that moment, the professor looked up from his notes, and his brows drew together. “Mr. Blackwood, you are late.” He said icilly.

Julian’s lips curved into that easy, infuriating smile, the kind that turned reprimand into nothing more than a passing breeze. “Won’t happen again,” he said smoothly, though everyone in the room seemed to know it would.

A few students chuckled under their breath, and the professor sighed, choosing

Savannah By the time I got to school the next morning, everyone already had something to say. It was just one of those things you could feel in the air before you even walked in, the kind of quiet that isn’t really quiet. I didn’t need anyone to tell me what it was about. The fight at Harper’s party had made it online, and of course, everyone was eating it up.I’d seen the clip before coming in. Someone had recorded the moment Julian dropped that guy with one move, and it looked worse than it actually was. No one cared about what led to it; they only saw me standing there, shocked, while he pulled me away. Just perfect. Exactly the kind of attention I needed. The new girl and the golden boy.I kept my head down, pretending I didn’t notice the stares and whispers. During my first class, I could hear a couple of people whispering behind me. One of them said something like, “She must really have him wrapped around her finger, isn’t that crazy? She’s been here, what? Two weeks and alread

  • Hired My Ex's Sister as Wife   The Clash

SavannahAfter the Harper scene died down, I told myself I deserved a drink. Nothing too strong, just something enough to ease the leftover tension buzzing in my chest. So, I made my way to the drink table, poured something that looked vaguely safe into a glass, and took a slow sip. It was stronger than I expected, the kind that burned a little but made the world soften around the edges.I stood there for a while, but then slowly my senses filled, and before I knew it, I was laughing with a few random classmates who’d decided I was finally someone they could talk to. The music was softer now, and for the first time that night, I felt almost normal. Not “the new girl,” not “Ethan Ford’s daughter”, just Savannah. That was when I began to feel like this whole fitting-in thing wasn’t impossible after all. That illusion lasted maybe ten minutes, because in the next, two guys I’d seen around, one tall and sandy-haired, the other shorter with a smug grin, wandered over with drinks in hand.

  • Hired My Ex's Sister as Wife   Standing Her Ground

SavannahI spent the entire week working on our project, mostly by myself, because Julian decided that he had better things to do. I figured it was his way of not having to be around me too much, and frankly, I didn’t mind. I wasn’t exactly breezy with him around all the time.By the end of the week, an invitation slid across my desk during class. There was no note, no explanation, just a cream-colored card with gold trim and a time, place, and date written in neat cursive. When I flipped it over, the name stamped on the back told me everything I needed to know: Claudia Harrington.Claudia was one of those students who carried herself like her family name was a crown. She didn’t speak much to me, but people talked a lot of big deal about the parties she threw. They were supposed to be the place to be if you wanted to be noticed. Which, of course, made me wonder why I had been invited.I stared at that card for longer than I should have, debating whether it was a setup. It was too easy

  • Hired My Ex's Sister as Wife   The Unexpected Offer

SavannahThe week leading up to the boardroom test felt like one long blur of planning and second-guessing. Every spare minute outside of class, I spent trying to rally up a small team of people who could help me with the task. The board hadn’t made things easy, and I knew better than to walk into that room without some kind of backup. At first, my mind wandered to Devon. Reaching out to him felt like the obvious move. He knew me, he knew how I worked, and together we’d gotten through challenges before. But each time I thought about picking up my phone, something inside me stopped. If I wanted to make this transition real, if I truly wanted to leave my old life behind, then I couldn’t keep going back to the same people, the same patterns. I couldn’t expect comfort and change at the same time. And so I refused to call him.Instead, I forced myself to step into unfamiliar waters. I started paying closer attention in my business classes, watching how certain students handled themselves,

  • Hired My Ex's Sister as Wife   Pressure Point

SavannahBy the time I made it back to my dorm after that ugly scene with Harper and Julian at the cafeteria, my nerves were still buzzing. When I dropped my bag on my chair, I saw my home phone flashing with missed calls. Three of them, all from my dad. I knew it had to be a business call if he didn’t try to reach me on my personal mobile, and immediately, my chest tightened. I hesitated before calling him back, hoping maybe he’d be too busy to pick up. But he answered on the first ring.“You didn’t answer any of my calls,” he said. His voice was calm, but I knew that edge.“I was in class,” I lied.“I don’t care what it was. You need to focus,” he said sharply. “The board gave you an assignment. I need you to take it more seriously.” He said. I could tell by the tone of his voice that something was wrong. He was worried, but what I couldn’t figure out was why?I bristled, “Is something wrong, Dad?”“You either deliver, or you don’t. Savannah, listen carefully. If you fail this tes

  • Hired My Ex's Sister as Wife   Nothing’s Changed

SavannahWinning that debate should have felt like a victory, but in the days that followed, it became clear it hadn’t changed anything at all. If anything, it only made things worse. The whispers didn’t stop when I walked into class. They only grew sharper, like needles pricking at the edges of my skin. I felt the side glances every time I took my seat, the subtle shuffles of notebooks and the pointed way conversations died down just as I passed. It was as though winning against Julian had branded me with a mark they couldn’t forgive.I told myself it didn’t matter, that I had done what I came here to do, but pretending not to notice was impossible. I had thought that proving myself in class would at least earn me a sliver of respect, yet instead, it felt like the walls had only grown higher. I was still on the outside, and now, I wasn’t just ignored, it felt like I was being targeted as well.I know it may seem like I’m overreacting or just making enemies where they weren't, but I p
