Allison

The annoying smell of antiseptic, mixed with something much more calmer and nicer, filled my lungs.

Then slowly, I heard beeping sounds.

They sounded distant at first but the more conscious I became, the louder they became.

The throbbing pain in my head made me want to destroy the source of the beeping sound.

It felt like with every beep, the pain worsened.

I touch my head to see if it had been split open because it felt like it.

Lifting my heavy eyelids, I was welcomed by the white ceiling above my head and bright light that I soon realized were sunrays flowing into the ward through the window.

My consciousness came in fragments- it didn't rush back all at once.

But when it did, I almost slipped into unconsciousness again.

My throat and lips were dry, my arms were sore and my body ached so badly, it felt like I had been hit by a moving train.

I felt a sting in my arm that I realized came from the IV line next to the heart monitor.
