Arielle’s POV

I walked into Pierce Enterprises. My head held high. A lingering smile and a red lip stick. My journey has officially begun.

I was walking into a lion’s den. From others It would look like a deer but for me I was a tiger disguised as a deer. It would be foolish for anyone to judge a book by its cover.

I stopped at the reception. The lady looked up at me with a bright smile “How may I help you ma’am”

“I have an appointment with Mr Pierce” I informed the receptionist

“Give me a minute” she began typing on her computer then looked up “Your name?”

“Arielle Sinclair from Winslow Holdings”

She frowned. It was for a minute, the next second it was gone “10th floor” I nodded and began walking towards the elevator

My meeting with Mr Pierce was set for 10:00am and it was already 10:30. He must be furious by now. Alexander Pierce hates to be kept waiting.

For the past ten years, Alexander Pierce was a course I had to study. I know almost everything about him. He is the key. My key to unlocking the past.

It took less than five minutes to reach the 10th floor. It was an open space with only a desk and a lady sitting there.

I walked up to her “ I have an appointment with Mr Pierce”

“I’ll inform him” she began typing on the telephone, then brought it to her ear “ Good day sir, Miss Sinclair is here…” she didn't finish what she wanted to say “Okay Sir” she brought down the phone “ You can go in”

It was time to face him. I was nervous but I wasn't scared. This is what I've always dreamed of. Trained for. Studied for and it was here. Not tomorrow or the day after, today.

I took a deep breath before pushing the door open. I hope he wasn't expecting to knock. I wasn't here to follow rules or courtesy.

“Hi, Mr Pierce.” I put on my brightest smile “I’ve missed you, did you miss me?” I said walking up to him

He sat behind his desk looking at me. His eyes laden with anger. He was angry and I could see that but who was I to care? His finger taps on his table one after another.

I've genuinely never seen a man who looked so sexy when angry. Alexander Pierce was that man.

“What is it by your time, Miss Sinclair?”

“Aren’t you going to ask me to have a sit?” he stared at me. The kind that would make anyone but me pee in their panties. I looked back at him. There was silence. “Okay, I get it. You won't ask me to sit” I pulled the chair backwards and sat down.

His expression changed. I didn't know what he was thinking. I tried to guess but nothing was coming to mind.

“Did I ask you to sit?” I didn't say anything. We looked at each other. He wanted to be in control as he always was but I wasn't here to let him.

I smiled, leaning closer “Has anyone told you, you look sexy when angry?”

He leaned into his chair, not even a second taking his eyes off me. Only God knows what this man was thinking.

His facial expression was normal but I wasn't a fool. He’s currently having a million thoughts going on, in his head.

“Your draft?” that was unexpected. He didn't push it any further. Is this the part where am supposed to be worried?

I handed over the documents to him. He looked through each of my sketches. I sat there staring at him like I did two weeks ago.

“Are you just going to stare at me or explain this to me” he slowly lifted his head

“Well, you can’t blame me for admiring God’s creation” I stated. I opened my laptop and started explaining them to him.

I stretched to get some sketches, my hand brushed his. I felt his eyes on me. I didn't look up. My lips curved into a sly smile. He knew I did it on purpose but he did not say anything. I continued with my presentation.

***

After my meeting with Alexander. I went back to the company. I had a lot of work to do. He seemed to have a problem with some angles and designs.

“Arielle” my office door yanked open, Ethan walks in with a cup of coffee. “Black, two cubes of sugar, just like you refer” he placed it on the table

“Thank you so much” I took a sip

“Mr Pierce is impressed” he sat at the chair across my desk “He likes your architectural designs for the resort” he continued

He did? I'm surprised. Not with the fact that my job is scrappy. But with the fact that he was impressed yet he kept pointing out even the tiniest detail.

I'm good at my job. I mean I've worked for big companies and have gotten good reviews. None has complained or pointed out anything like Alexander.

“I told you, I was the right person for the job didn't I?”

“I never doubted you. In fact I have good news”

“Which is?”

“The board has decided to put you in charge of the full project” Exactly what I was hoping for. After Ethan recommended me to the board, I was on trial, an architect was set in place to replace me if Alexander was to complain.

I should not use set in place. I mean the job was originally hers, I just pushed my way in and got myself in.

I smiled “I knew that would happen”

“Oh my God, Arielle. You can’t even be modest”

“Where has my modesty gotten me” I said “Thank you, Ethan. You made this possible”

“You're welcome” he stood up “I have a meeting, see you later” with that he walked out.

Arielle's POVMum was still awake when I came in.She sat on the sofa in her robe, a cup of tea going cold on the table in front of her and a magazine open on her lap that she clearly hadn't been reading. When I closed the door she looked up, and I saw her eyes travel from my face to my heels to my lipstick, which was still perfect."You said you'd be home by nine.""Work ran late.""On a restaurant table?"I froze with my coat half off. They wanted to go over the plans over food. That's all.""And the man's cologne?""He sat close to me.""Did he now.""Mum." I laughed. "I'm twenty-five, not fifteen.""You're my child. Alexander's POVShe didn't stop talking for the first ten minutes of the drive. She talked about the restaurant, the chocolate, the terrible traffic, a pigeon she had once seen steal a sandwich from a businessman's hand. She talked with her whole body, her hands moving, her shoulder turning toward me in the passenger seat as though I were an audience she was determined to win.I kept my eyes on the road.It was a rule I had never broken. Arielle's POVEthan was waiting outside my office with two cups of coffee and the expression of a man who had been rehearsing a speech."Don't," I said."I haven't said anything.""You're about to.""I'm about to hand you coffee." He held it out. "Black. Two sugars. And then I'm going to say something."I took the cup and sighed. "Say it.""You had dinner with Alexander Pierce."I stopped with the cup halfway to my mouth. "Who told you that?""His assistant called the office to confirm tomorrow's schedule, and casually mentioned that Mr. Pierce had been seen at the restaurant on Marlow Street with a woman in a red dress." He raised an eyebrow. "There aren't a lot of women in red dresses working on that project.""It was a working dinner.""Was it?""Ethan.""Arielle." He said it gently, but there was steel under it. "I told you one condition. Stay professional.""I was professional.""You flirted with him in front of the entire boardroom.""That was the first meeting. And I didn't fli

  • His Beautiful Deception   It was working

Arielle’s POV"There's nothing to tell." He didn't even look up from the menu. "Everyone has something to tell." "Not everyone wants to." I rested my elbow on the table and my chin on my hand. "Okay. Then I'll guess. You're thirty, you don't sleep, you hate small talk, and you have never once, in your entire life, said sorry first." The corner of his mouth moved. It wasn't a smile. It was a muscle reminding itself that smiles existed. "Two of those are correct." "Which two?" "Order your food, Ms. Sinclair." "I knew you'd say that." The waiter arrived and Alexander ordered without opening the menu, something with steak and a sauce I couldn't pronounce. I ordered pasta because I was starving and because I wanted to see whether he would comment on it. He didn't. Disappointing. When the waiter left, I leaned back and studied him. The candle between us caught the edge of his jaw. He had the kind of face that looked carved rather than born, all sharp lines and careful stillness.
