Tor POV

Kyra ~ age fourteen

Tor ~ age twenty-nine

"Kyra Callis?"

I look up from the test I'm taking at the woman standing at the door of my classroom saying my name. I recognize her as working in the principal’s office.

"Can you come with me?" she asks when we make eye contact.

"Um... okay."

The other kids in my class watch me as I shove my book in my backpack and grab my bag. Some of them whisper as I make my way through the desks to the door. My teacher takes my test from me as I near her

  • His Best Friend's Daughter   Chapter seventy five

Kyra POVMy own breath catches as a wave of emotion surges through me. This man, with his arms wrapped so tight around me and his heart pounding against my spine, isn't the man I grew up knowing. This is someone who’s been hiding in the shadows; deep, dark, and hopelessly romantic. There's a mix of fear and hope in his words, all tangled up together in a cocktail of turmoil.I twist my head towards him. "I'll never hurt you, Tor. Ever. Haven't I been promising my undying love to you since I was five? It hasn't changed.""Just don't make promises you aren't sure of. Please.""I hope you don't, either."He cups the side of my neck and turns my face towards his, his lips landing on mine."I don't want any broken promises between us." He says in a low voice, pulling me up onto him and turning me so I'm sitting on top of him, straddling his body.I respond by kissing him back with as much passion as I know how to do with my limited experience, hoping actions are louder than words. Our kiss

  • His Best Friend's Daughter   Chapter seventy four

**Kyra POV**I rinse the conditioner out of my hair and turn the water off. I can't think about all of that right now and let my mind start racing out of control with questions and worries. My mom always told me to take things day-by-day and step-by-step and not worry about things until it was the right time to worry about it.But when is the right time? How will I know? That familiar stab slices through my chest at memories of my mom. I wish she was here so badly. I know I could tell her the truth about Tor and she would understand without judging us or making us feel like we were partaking in some evil act. She'd answer all my questions, calm my fears, and give me hope that it would all be okay. She'd talk to my dad and get him to accept us as a couple. She'd work her magic and make it better for all of us. Everything would be different. After I towel off and dress, I open the bathroom door to see Tor still sitting on the bed, only now he's wearing jeans rather than sitting there co

**Kyra POV**I stroll into Aiden's parents’ kitchen and set my guitar off to the side before I join Ash, Elara, and the baby at the table where they're eating lunch."Tor!" Kyra shrieks from her high chair, pointing at me with an excited smile."Holy shit, did she just say your name?" Aiden asks.Elara shakes her head and wipes the baby's face. "No." She says. "Your name is not going to be my daughter’s first word. She said "door.""Pretty sure she said Tor." I say, grabbing Kyra's little chubby hand that's reaching out for me."Tor!" She yells again, kicking her legs and giggling.Aiden leans back in his chair and shakes his head. "She's definitely saying Tor, hon."Elara lifts the baby out of her chair and sits her on her lap. "Great."She says, glaring at me, but with a playful smile on her face. "That's because you spoiled her, Toren. And your name is easy for her to say."Kyra's green eyes lock onto mine and I wink at her. Anyone who can make me smile like she does deserves to be

Tor POV"Then we're not stopping 'til we've had every fuckin' inch of each other." I move my lips back up to hers and stare down into her eyes. "Once we start this, we can't go back, Kyra."She gulps, a hint of nervousness finally showing, and then she nods. "I know, Tor. This is what I want." Taking a small step backwards, she pulls off her shirt and drops it onto the floor, mimicking my dare."I want you to touch me," she says.Suddenly it's Christmas in August as I'm staring down at cleavage for days surrounded by thin, teasing black lace that I want to chew through to get to her. The power keeps shifting between us and now it's my turn to be knocked back into shyness. I feel like I'm fifteen again, awestruck by how beautiful and perfect she is, afraid to touch her or speak for fear of scaring her away.I don't let that kid in me resurface for long, though. He's got no right to be here anymore and I'm not letting him ruin this moment for me."Oh, I'm going to touch you," I repl

  • His Best Friend's Daughter   Chapter seventy one

Tor POVShe wants to see the dog and the kitten, so I bring her back to my place instead of straight to her house after our ride. I didn't tell her about the kitten. I surprised her by letting her come over to clean when she got back from Maine, and the kitten was sleeping on the couch when she got there. She called me at the shop all crazy excited after she saw her and I told her about how I found the kitten in a box on the side of the road. Originally, I thought the kitten was a boy, but it's actually a girl. Needless to say, Kyra fell immediately in love with the kitten just like she did with the dog."Did you name this poor kitten yet?" she asks me, sitting on the floor with both the dog and the kitten crawling up in her lap for love. Kyra is like a pet whisperer. They all love her.I sit on the couch and pull off my boots, thinking we'll relax and have a bite to eat before I take her home."Yeah. Kitten. It goes with Diogee."She smirks at me. "That's lazy, but it fits her." Sh

"Did I do something?""No, nothing like that. Your aunt and uncle are here."My aunt and uncle? As we walk down the empty hall toward the office, Uncle Toren and Aunt Sydni come into view, waiting for me in the front lobby. I can tell immediately by their somber faces that something is very wrong."Kyra..." Aunt Sydni says, taking a few steps forward. "There's
