"Gerber!"
Gerber halted upon hearing Atlas yell her name on the hallway. She turned to us, eyes bloodshot as if fire had caused them to fume into red.
"Don't stop me, Atlas."
"I have all the rights to stop you. I am the mayodorma of this mansion. All servants are under my supervision. If I say you stop, you will stop, Gerber Anderson..."
"That bitch almost killed Lord Minir's blood slave, Atlas. What do you want me to do? Calm down?!"
"It is impulsive to attack the Countess. You must stay sane to protect Sol. Do you think what you're about to do will help in this matter?!"
Gerber looked away, tilting her head in defeat.
"It won't! It will only going to make it worse."
I pulled Atlas' arm to calm her down. She brushed my hand off her elbow and began walking away from the two of us.
"I will take care of this matter. Take the blood slave back to her chamber, Gerber."
As Atlas' footsteps disappeared in the hallways, Gerber grabbed me back to my chamber. She cleaned up the food tray. The silence between us was defeaning. It felt like an eternity of watching her do all the chores while I sit on my own bed in hunger, my stomach rumbling badly.
"I'm sorry, Gerber..." I tried to apologize becasue I thought that maybe she's feeling uncomfortable towards me after I witnessed how Atlas used her superiority against the two of us.
"It's not your fault, Sol. My emotions got the most of me. And...Atlas was right. I will only make it worse if I have ever did it."
"But she was too hard on you back there..."
"That's life, Sol. If you're superior than anyone else, you can always be hard on them."
"About the poison...what should I do now?"
The door slammed open, revealing Atlas with a tray of food. It took ehr about an hour to get back . Did she cook again?
"I will take care of this matter. I sent Lord Minir a letter about what has happened. He will be back in no time." She glanced at Gerber who silently continued her chores. She added, "For now, you will continue to do everything and act like nothing has happened. "
Gerber scoffed. Atlas looked at her, "This is the only for us to stay safe. "
"Oh,yeah, right. I feel a lot safer with a criminal Cathy being here. "
"Gerber."
"What?"
"Don't you want to protect Sol? "
"Do you even have to ask?"
"Yes. I know you will protect her. That's why, you must remain calm. Also, don't make her eat food from any of the other servants except for us. It will be me and Gerber who will serve your meals . Eat nothing from the servants."
Atlas looked at me after stating the last sentence from her. I nodded, feeling a lot more safer when they assured me of my security.
"Then there is nothing to worry about...right?" I chuckled wryly.
The two flinched at me in annoyance. What did I said? Did I just said something wrong?
“See? That’s the reason why she can easily die, Atlas.”
Atlas shook her head, “She isn’t as gullible like what you thought, Gerber.”
“Whatever, you always…”
They bickered and bickered until they decided to dress me up and sent me to the library since Count Vlad was already waiting for my presence in there. I walked up to Count Vlad in my usual black dress that fell until my knees, ruffled sleeves and black boots with white lacy socks. But I do think that I really look way more different than before. My skin was paler, almost looking like the white laces on the curtains.
I also noticed that my hair has been growing longer than before. Maybe, being a blood slave isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It’s actually a lot more comfortable. I bet my hair began to get healthy because of the shampoo and all the oils that Gerber put in my head.
“You look healthier today,” Count Vlad smiled at me as he went to the shelves to pick a few books for our topic today.
“I...almost ate poison and — “
“You almost what?!”
“ — Atlas cooked me some breakfast…”
“Wait. Hold it right there, young lady. How — care to tell me how you end up almost digesting a poison?”
I touched my lips while thinking about what had actually happened a few hours ago just this morning.
“Oh, I don’t know…”
Should I tell him about it?
“I almost accidentally ate something I’m allergic with…”
He nodded at me, understood my sudden choice of words. That was a good excuse, I think. I shouldn’t tell him about it. Atlas decided to keep it so I should keep it to myself too.
He let the topic go and we started to do our lessons. But as I continued to listen to him teaching me a lot of things that I needed to know, my mind wandered back to the book of spells. Count Vlad must have noticed me space out a lot of times that he just decided to give me a quick test.
After I finished my test and scored it perfect, he dropped the book on the desk and stared at me. My eyebrows furrowed at his curiosity of what I was thinking this whole time.
“What’s on your mind, Lady Sol?”
I shook my head, “N–Nothing.”
“Nothing? Hm…”
“I was actually thinking…D-Do you h-have books about the helsings?”
There was a long silence around us, almost weighing our thoughts as if it’s going to answer my question. After a long chain of thoughts, Count Vlad gave me an okay sign. My eyes lit up to his answer.
“I can borrow a few books in the palace’s library and bring them here for you, Lady Sol.”
I stood up, “Really?!”
He nodded and smiled at me, “Anything for you, muffin.”
I escorted Count Vlad out of the library after our teaching sessions. He promised to bring them to me tomorrow.
“Don’t forget about it, please?” I looked up at him when he got on the seat of his carriage.
He leaned his head on the window, stretched his hand out to me and patted me on my head.
“I won’t, muffin. Goodbye.”
“Goodbye, Count Vlad!”
I waved my hand at the leaving carriage and watched it until it disappeared into the trees. When I turned to the mansion of the door, I thought I saw Gerber waiting for me. Yet my sight disappointed me when I got closer. It wasn’t Gerber but Lady Catherine, wearing her black gown as if she was a fine painting, staring at me lifelessly.
“Looks like you found another man for your collection…” she smiled at me. Not a kind one, but a smile that actually seemed sarcastic.
“Well…”
“Well? Now that Lord Minir is not here, are you becoming someone else’s blood slave? I bet you are. Looking at how clingy you are with the Count.”
“Lady Catherine…you misunderstood–”
“Of course. Forget it. Did you had breakfast? Or lunch? Come on. Let me cook for you–”
“Ah, actually, Atlas cooks for me…”
She stared at me, her jaw tightened.
“Then since you are not going to come for lunch. Can you do something for me?”
I nodded, “W-What is it, Lady Catherine?”
“Will you clean up my chamber?”
I had no other choice but to do as what she was telling me. She’s now the Mistress of the mansion since Lord Minir is not here so I must, therefore, follow her orders. She asked the other servants to get a bucket filled of water, a mop, a dustpan, some cloths and other cleanings tools I can use. I followed her to her chamber, walking behind her silently. “Do my clothes and jewels first. Then after that, you can now clean the floor…while we eat our lunch.” I thought she left when I began folding some of her clothes while hanging the laces on the wardrobe. A loud shuttering sound on the marble floor broke me out of my focus. I turned around only to find a broken vase on the floor. “I’m sorry. It was an accident…” I smiled, “It’s okay…I’ll just clean this up…” Lady Catherine smiled wider, “Then you might as well clean this up too.” I thought she was referring somewhere really dirty. She went up to her desk and began pouring beads on the floor. A gasp escaped from me as I watche
Accused. She accused me of something she told me to do. “I…” My words left hanging on the edge of my lips as a hand slapped me across my right cheek. The stinging on my cheek stayed as if it was welcome to continue to linger in my skin. I let out a soft sigh. How foolish of me to believe her genuine words back then. That was foolish of me to not learn from the past situations. I should have been an expert to situations like this since it has happened so many times in the shelter. Blood slaves gettin accused of things that they didn’t do, ending with them getting imprisoned, killed or exiled from the kingdom. I should have known better. I knew better! I was suspecting the turn of events but I let it slip my mind! How foolish! “How dare you do this to me after all the goodness I have showed to you?!” she yelled at me. I heard footsteps rushing from outside my door and caught a glimpse of Gerber being stopped by Atlas. I secretly shook my head at them, lifting my gaze towards
It was a moment I'm sure of that I'll never forget. The way Lady Catherine ran up to him in defense, threwing herself to his majestic bod and crying as if she just got victimized. It was something I am sure that they both share. They are betrothed to one another so I understand how he will not protect me once everything will come to light. “She tried to hurt me!” Lady Catherine told Lord Minir, crying like she’s losing her mind in front of him. “I’ll take care of this matter. For now, it is best for you to go back home, Lady Catherine.” Lady Catherine gasped, “What?!”Lord Minir walked past her. His pace was slow but surely is coming towards me. He held my arm, checking possible bruises and injuries in them. Upon confirming that I wasn’t hurt that bad, he tilted his angle to Lady Catherine, concealing the glare through side-eyeing her. “Your carriage is ready outside. Mona, take her luggages and escort Lady Catherine to her carriage.” Lady Catherine shook her head, scoffing
They made me stand in front of the three of them. Atlas locked the library, not letting anyone in unless she gives permission for the other servants to come in. Count Vlad leaned his back on the table, staring at me with his curious eyes, searching my wholeness as if he was trying to think of something he couln’t summon in his mind. “I know I look different. It must have been the…um…It must be because of the food…” Gerber sighed, “Really?Because of the food? Is that all the answer that you can think of? “ “Have you seen yourself in the mirror lately, Lady Sol? Atlas told me that you have been locking yourself in your chamber. Care to tell me, why?” Atlas glanced at me before steadying her focus on the book in her hand. I answered lightly, “Um…yes, I don’t like what I look. Is it puberty?” Count Vlad’s shoulder fell on his side, showing how disappointed he was by my question. Well, I have read it somewhere so maybe, it really is puberty. “No, it’s far from puberty, Lady Sol.” He
I turned away, not wanting to see his face as I left. The last thing I need is for him to look at me like I’m an animal who needs to be taught at something. But then he called my name and pulled me back into the room. “What’s wrong? ”I shake my head. It took me too long to realize that I looked like a grumpy kid. “Nothing,” I say.He doesn't leave it alone. In fact, he presses closer to me until our bodies are almost touching and leans against me. “It doesn’t take a genius to tell when you’re lying to me,” he says. I look up at him. The corner of his lips are quirked in a slight smile, but his eyes don’t give anything away. I know he sees right through me.“Fine,” I mutter. I don’t want to talk about it though. "Was it because of what I said?" He says slowly. When I don't answer immediately he sighs and pulls me closer still so that we're both leaning against each other. “Sol?”He nudges my shoulder, trying to get me to acknowledge him. He's looking at me expectantly whe
"Don't move." Frozen on my spot, Lord Minir lifted me and let me sat on top of his desk. He pushed himself closer to me so my legs opened up a little, making him stand in the middle of my knees. His cold, calloused hands rested on my kneecaps. "How have you been lately?" "I'm fine," I answered. " You don't look so fine to me, darling." "W-What do you mean? " I remembered about my sudden change of appearance and become conscious of my eyes. My eyes are blue! How could I forget?! "You look taller, slimmer, your skin glows better than the first time I saw you. You look mature. Like a full woman with these... " my lips parted when he slightly touched my covered breasts before moving them back to my thighs. He continued, "... and these... " "W-What do you mean?" " They grew . " I annoyingly rolled my eyes, " Yeah, right, master. I forgot you like girls with bigger boobs, and bigger butts. " " How did you know?" I gasped, " How? Your fia
The luxury in life was never a big deal to me until I came to the mansion of Lord Minir, where I was introduced to all things sparkly , romantic and dark. Looking back at the years I lived when I was in the shelter, I would gross at these expensive things. But now, I'm wearing one of it. Gerber put on the expensive rose oil in my body, making my skin looked healthier and smoother. She also made sure that my scent will always be catchy, heads shall turn when I walk pass them. My hair was in an updo with expensive silver clips around it, forming a flower and leaves combination. She dressed me up in a long, black and red dress. It drops on the ground, covered the point of my black shoes. She, Gerber herself, was wearing a brown dress with the same length as mine. The only difference is my ruffled sleeves and her normal ones. Atlas, on the other hand, looked stunning in her dark emerald dress that glimmers with her silver jewels. We looked like spoiled daughters of arti
"Did you went to the library?" he asked. " No, master—" He squinted his eyes, " The truth, woman. " "Um, yes. I took a book that Count Vlad gave to me." Lord Minir shrugged, not minding whether it was important or not. He stared at me for a long while as if he was waiting for me to reveal the book. I took it out from the sheets and showed him. He glanced at it before deciding to read again. "You can bring anything to my room. Just don't make a mess, " He said. " Yes, master! " I cheerfully opened the book, put the candlelight beside it while eating my food. He would glance at me everyone now and then but I was too indulged to what I was reading that I forgot he was around. Helsings ruled the Doria Kingdom years ago. They were the rulers, and the protectors . They were like sages or mages, or even wizards but higher than them. They know power, they control elements, they were divine. The Great Priestess, Selestia, control the division betwe
