KILLIAN

Nothing could have prepared me for the sound of the familiar voice that I’d just heard. Matteo. This was definitely not how I’d imagined that we would meet again. An extra ice bucket of humiliation crashed over me, and I squeezed my eyes shut. Kill me now.

“Matteo?" I heard Arabella say at the door. Then, the door creaked open.

They were arguing about something now, but my mind was warping into something unpleasant and unstable. I could barely understand them.

But if Matteo knew exactly where I was. It had to mean that he was in on it with Arabella. Fury simmered inside of me, and the urge to commit murder gripped me. The anger was so intense, it sharpened my mind and vision.

And the moment I heard approaching footsteps, I pushed against the restraints until I felt something snap. There was a wet, sickening pop that indicated that my left wrist had been dislocated. Fire raced through my arm, the agony nauseating.

But I didn't stop.

I gritted my teeth and reached out for t

  • His Bride By Force   85: A Performance Just For Me

SERA The fever finally broke last night. After five days of restless, sweat-soaked nights and half-conscious mumbling... after the tremors, the hallucinations, the fever dreams that left him clawing at his sheets...He was finally deeply asleep.I sat curled in the corner of the room, my arms wrapped tight around my knees as I stared at his face in the dim golden morning light. His breathing was steady. There were no more shudders or flinches. But I didn't feel relief just yet.Because last night... just before the fever broke... he'd said something I couldn't unhear."She was on top of me...""I couldn't stop her.""I didn't want it...please—"The sound of his voice had gutted me.I pressed a fist to my mouth now, the memory replaying itself in my head. Tears blurred my vision, my body curling tighter into itself.I told myself I'd misheard, but those words hadn't been vague. Rage had sunk into me then. And I'd fantasized about finding Arabella, cutting her apart slowly until all

  • His Bride By Force   84: I’m Right Here, Baby

SERAEarlier, The bastard met me in the hallway with a fake smile. He looked like he hadn't slept in years, but that didn't matter. I didn't know how bad my husband's condition was, and I desperately needed to get him out safely. Lord knows he's been through a lot already."Sera." Matteo said. "You look beautiful. The years have been... unkind to some of us. But you're like an undying rose."I stared at him. He must be joking. What did he expect me to do? Smile and accept his compliment? I'd rather not. He wasn't the same man he used to be. The one I used to respect and admire. He'd become twisted, blinded by his own selfish desires. And worse, he'd been in charge of my torture. He'd separated my child from me. His reckoning was coming, but for tonight, all that mattered was Killian."You disgust me," I said to Matteo. His smile faltered. "That's no way to speak to someone who spared your life."I stepped closer. "Spared me?""You'd be nothing without us. Without me, you would've

  • His Bride By Force   83: My Angel’s Voice

KILLIAN Arabella’s screams were muffled beneath the pillow, her limbs flailing as I pressed down with all the strength I had left. My body trembled, the fever clawing through my muscles and bones.I wanted her dead.I needed her gone. But my arms were too weak. My chest heaved, my heart jackhammering behind my ribs. The fever was winning. Therefore, I collapsed beside her, barely breathing. My hands shook violently as I clawed the blanket from the bed and wrapped it around myself. My skin was soaked, clammy, and hot. I couldn't stop shivering, and I couldn't see straight either. But I had to move. I needed to stay alive long enough to make it out.The table of weapons loomed just within reach, but my double vision wasn’t helping. My bare feet dragged across the floor, my knees buckling. I gripped the table just in time to hold myself up, my eyes landing on the sledgehammer.I wrapped my fingers around the handle with my good hand even as my body swayed. Panting, I leaned against

ARABELLA He was still feverish. I watched the pulse in Killian's neck flutter like a trapped bird, his breathing shallow. He looked so fucking beautiful while he was on the edge of life and death, unconscious but powerful. Even in his state, he managed to steal the air from my lungs.Matteo dabbed his forehead with a damp cloth again, his jaw tight. He tucked another blanket over his brother's body as if that would somehow make up for all the hate.It made me want to scream."Enough," I snapped, leaning against the doorframe, my arms crossed. The wound on my neck throbbed, still fresh from where the scissors had sunk into me. I pressed into it, relishing the sting. "What is this? The Florence Nightingale act?"Matteo didn't look at me. He just adjusted the IV line as though he was the fucking nurse now."Don't you think it's a little late for brotherly love?" I added, annoyed. "Where was this tenderness when you thought he'd stolen your empire, your woman, and your life?"He didn'

  • His Bride By Force   80: Where Is Killian?

SERA The intercom crackled once. Then I heard Matteo speak. "Don't panic, Sera. I'm not here to hurt anyone."My stomach churned with unease.I didn't move or say a word. The screen still showed him standing there as patient as a predator, his hands folded behind his back. He leaned in slightly, his eyes locking onto the camera lens."I just wanted to see you again," he said softly. "I just want to remind you that I miss you."I gripped the counter beside the monitor, my fingers aching around the knife. What the hell does he want?"I'm also here to tell you that..." His voice dipped lower. "I know where Killian is."My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach. He smiled. It was a slow, calculated, 'I-hold-all-the-cards' smile."I'd invite you to let me in, but I know you're smarter than that," he said, his voice laced with amusement. Bastard."So how about we talk? Just you and me. No violence. No threats. Just the truth," he added.I swallowed the bile rising in my throat, my pu
