Aurora's POV

We stumbled out of the passage into an old storage room deep under the estate. The air was stale. Cold. Both of us stood there breathing hard, listening for footsteps. Nobody spoke for a while.

I unfolded the family tree again. My hands were still shaking a little.

*ERASED*

"How does a whole bloodline just disappear?" I asked.

"By making sure nobody remembers they existed in the first place," Aridian said. His voice was low and flat.

Neither of us said anything after that. The sile

  • His Bride on His Twin Brother's Bed     Chapter 38: Vivian's voice

Aurora's POVI turned toward the doorway. A man stood there, half hidden in shadow. For one terrifying second I thought it was Alexander, but the light was wrong, and I couldn't make out his face. Aridian stepped in front of me instantly. The man didn't move. "You were warned," he said."Who are you?" Aridian demanded. No answer. Instead the man reached out and hit the light switch. The room dropped into darkness. I heard footsteps, fast, then a door slamming somewhere behind us. When Aridian got his flashlight up, the doorway was empty. He was gone.My heart was hammering. Aridian checked the corridor. Nothing there either. But something had been left behind on the floor.A black glove.I went back to the desk. A few drawers had already been pulled open and left messy. One was still locked. Aridian forced it, and it cracked open easily. Inside were old photographs, receipts, a small brass key, and a handful of handwritten notes. The most important thing was a list of dates. Each one

  • His Bride on His Twin Brother's Bed    Chapter 37: Truth About Vivian

Aurora's POVI stared at Alexander. "What did you just say?"He said it again, slower this time. "The people who killed Vivian."Aridian stepped forward instantly. "Careful."Alexander didn't back down. "Vivian didn't disappear on her own. Her death was covered up. On purpose.""Prove it," I said."I don't have everything," he admitted. "But I have enough to know she was investigating something dangerous right before she vanished.""And you knew about it?" I asked. He hesitated. "I knew something was wrong.""That's not the same as knowing," Aridian said, his voice hard.Alexander looked at him. "No. It isn't."The tension between the two of them snapped right back into the air, thick as ever. I realized both of them had been sitting on pieces of the truth this whole time.Alexander told us what little he knew. In the weeks before Vivian disappeared, she'd become obsessed with the Hawthorne succession records. She kept going back to the family archives, requesting old legal documents,

  • His Bride on His Twin Brother's Bed    Chapter 36: Shadows of Blackridge

Aurora's POVI turned toward the entrance. A man stood there in the dark, his shape barely visible. I couldn't make out his face. Aridian stepped in front of me right away, blocking most of my view. The man didn't move closer. He just said, "You were never supposed to find that document."I gripped the parchment tighter against my chest. "Who are you?"He shifted slightly, letting a bit of light catch his face. I recognized him then , one of the Hawthorne estate's senior security men. But something was wrong. He wasn't holding a weapon. He looked scared out of his mind."You have minutes," he said, his voice shaking a little. "Before others get here."Neither of us trusted him. Not for a second. His eyes dropped to the succession document in my hands."If they find that in your hands," he said, "they won't let either of you leave this house."Then he was gone, swallowed back into the dark before I could ask anything else.I looked at Aridian. "Was that a threat? Or a warning?""I hone

  • His Bride on His Twin Brother's Bed     Chapter 35: The Declarations

Aurora's POVThe footsteps came again. Slow. Even. Moving somewhere beyond the shelves. I stepped closer to Aridian without even thinking about it. He raised one finger to his lips.We waited. The sound stopped.Silence pressed down on us, thick and heavy. Then a metallic scrape echoed through the chamber. Someone was moving boxes around, somewhere close."Stay behind me," Aridian whispered.I almost argued. Then I realized whoever it was wasn't coming toward us. They were searching. Looking for something. And from the sound of it, they hadn't found it yet.Aridian moved silently between the iron shelves, and I followed him even though he'd told me not to. At the far end of the chamber we found an open document box, its papers scattered across the stone floor like someone had gone through it in a hurry."They were just here," I whispered."Minutes ago, maybe."Under the scattered papers I found another leather-bound book, smaller than the family register. The cover read: *SUCCESSION R

  • His Bride on His Twin Brother's Bed    Chapter 34: The Erased Daughter

Aurora's POVI studied the photograph again under the weak beam of my flashlight. Vivian stood on the left, her face calm and steady. Beside her was a young woman I'd never seen before. At first she looked normal enough. Then I noticed the details. The same sharp cheekbones. The same dark eyes I'd seen in every Hawthorne portrait in that house. And stitched quietly into her dress, so small you'd miss it if you weren't looking, was the Hawthorne family crest.I flipped the photo over. Most of the writing on the back had faded away completely. Only two words were still readable.*Second branch.*Aridian took the photo from my hands. The second he looked at the woman's face, something changed in him."You know her," I said.He didn't answer right away."Aridian.""No," he said finally. Then, after a pause, "But I've seen that face before.""Where?"His voice dropped low. "In a photograph my grandfather kept locked away. One I wasn't supposed to find."So she wasn't connected to me at all

  • His Bride on His Twin Brother's Bed    Chapter 33: Silent Names

Aurora's POVWe stood in front of the iron gates of Blackridge House. Rust had eaten deep into the metal, flaking off in orange strips. Ivy climbed the stone walls in thick green ropes, swallowing the lower windows whole. Broken glass caught the light of the mist, glittering faintly like scattered teeth. The gardens had gone wild years ago nothing but thorns and dead roses now, tangled together in a mess nobody had cleared. The silence was strange. Too complete. Like the house itself was holding its breath, waiting to see what we'd do."Still want the truth?" Aridian asked quietly beside me.I kept my eyes on the dark front of the house. "Not knowing scares me more."Together we pushed the gates open. They groaned loud enough to make me flinch, the sound echoing off into the trees. We stepped through anyway. The entrance hall greeted us like a tomb. A dust-covered chandelier hung crooked above us, tilted like it had given up trying to hang straight years ago. The marble floor was crac
