Regina POV

The lobby felt too small.

It was the same space she’d stood in every day for years — the same polished floors, the same warm lighting, the same steady hum of quiet conversation — but now it felt like the air had thickened, pressing against her skin with a strange, electric tension she couldn’t escape.

Regina stared down at the computer screen without seeing it, her fingers hovering uselessly over the keyboard.

Her heart still hadn’t settled.

The moment Aldric walked through the doors replayed in her mind with startling clarity — the way her breath had caught before she even consciously recognized him, the sudden rush of warmth that had exploded through her chest the instant their eyes met.

And then—

The bond.

It had snapped into place with a force so undeniable she’d nearly gasped out loud, a deep, instinctive certainty flooding her senses like a flood breaking through a dam.

Mate.

The word echoed softly in her mind, unfamiliar yet terrifyingly right.

Her wolf paced restlessly beneath her skin, alert and almost… hopeful, a feeling Regina hadn’t allowed herself to entertain in years.

Her hands trembled slightly as she forced herself to inhale slowly.

This can’t be happening.

Not now.

Not after everything.

The bell above the door chimed again, and Regina flinched before she could stop herself, nerves stretched too thin. She forced a polite smile for the guests entering, checking them in with practiced professionalism while her thoughts spun wildly beneath the surface.

Every movement felt surreal, like she was watching herself from a distance.

Because somewhere above her — in room 412 — was the man fate had decided was hers.

Aldric.

The name alone made warmth bloom in her chest, followed immediately by a sharp spike of panic.

Mate meant connection. Vulnerability. A bond she couldn’t control or walk away from.

Her mind flashed back to the cave — rope biting into her wrists, helplessness pressing in from all sides.

Her breath hitched.

No.

She couldn’t go back to feeling powerless again.

Even if this was different.

Even if the bond felt warm instead of suffocating.

Regina gripped the edge of the counter, grounding herself in the cool wood beneath her palms.

You’re not that girl anymore.

You survived.

But survival had taught her to keep walls firmly in place, to keep her life predictable and contained. A mate bond threatened to tear those walls down in an instant.

Her wolf whined softly at the thought, pushing against her resistance.

She squeezed her eyes shut briefly, fighting the swirl of emotions.

The bond pulsed gently, like a steady heartbeat just beneath her ribs, warm and persistent.

It didn’t feel demanding.

Just… there.

Waiting.

Regina exhaled slowly, forcing herself to focus on the present — the quiet lobby, the steady rhythm of normal life continuing around her as if nothing monumental had just happened.

Because to everyone else…

Nothing had.

Upstairs, Aldric’s presence lingered in her awareness like a soft hum she couldn’t tune out. She could feel the general direction of him, the subtle pull like a compass needle pointing north.

It was both comforting and deeply unsettling.

She finished her shift on autopilot, barely registering the passage of time. By the time her replacement arrived, the sky outside had shifted to soft evening hues, pink and gold fading into twilight.

“Everything okay?” Lila asked quietly, studying her face.

Regina forced a small smile. “Just tired.”

It wasn’t entirely a lie.

Exhaustion pressed at the edges of her mind — emotional more than physical — from the constant undercurrent of awareness thrumming through her.

“Get some rest,” Lila said gently.

Regina nodded, grabbing her bag from beneath the counter.

The elevator ride up to her apartment above the hotel felt longer than usual. The enclosed space amplified the sensation of the bond, the awareness of Aldric somewhere in the same building making her pulse quicken.

She stepped into her apartment, closing the door softly behind her.

Silence greeted her — familiar and comforting.

The space was simple but warm, filled with soft lighting, neutral colors, and the faint scent of lavender from a diffuser near the window. Her sanctuary. Her carefully built safe place.

Regina set her bag down and leaned back against the door, closing her eyes.

For a moment, she just breathed.

In.

Out.

The bond pulsed gently, not overwhelming, just present — like a quiet reminder she wasn’t alone anymore.

The thought made her chest tighten unexpectedly.

She pushed off the door and moved toward the kitchen, pouring herself a glass of water with slightly unsteady hands. The cool liquid helped ground her, the simple act of drinking anchoring her in the familiar.

But her mind refused to stay quiet.

Images of Aldric surfaced — the strength in his posture, the intensity of his silver gaze, the warmth that had flared through her when their fingers brushed.

He had looked just as shocked as she felt.

That helped, a little.

At least she wasn’t the only one reeling.

Regina carried the glass to the couch, curling her legs beneath her as she stared out the window at the darkening forest.

Mate.

The word felt huge.

Permanent.

Her wolf nudged at the thought again, curious and hopeful, but Regina wrapped her arms around herself, instinctively protective.

What if I can’t do this?

What if I lose myself again?

Her chest tightened, memories pressing close — fear, helplessness, the fragile feeling of safety she’d spent years rebuilding.

But beneath the fear was something else.

A quiet warmth.

Because when she thought of Aldric — of the way he’d looked at her in the cave, steady and certain — the bond didn’t feel like a trap.

It felt like a promise.

That realization scared her more than anything.

A soft knock sounded at her door.

Regina froze.

Her heart leapt into her throat, instincts flaring before logic could catch up.

No one ever knocked unannounced.

The bond pulsed — warm, familiar.

Aldric.

She stood slowly, crossing the room with cautious steps. Her hand hovered over the handle for a moment before she opened the door.

He stood in the hallway, shoulders relaxed but eyes searching her face with quiet intensity.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

The bond thrummed warmly between them, filling the silence with something almost tangible.

“Hi,” he said softly.

Her throat felt tight. “Hi.”

The simplicity of the greeting felt surreal considering everything shifting beneath the surface.

“Can I come in?” he asked.

Regina hesitated only a second before stepping aside.

“Yes.”

As he entered, the space seemed to shift subtly, the bond settling deeper, like something finally finding its place.

Regina closed the door, turning to face him.

The air between them felt charged, but not uncomfortable — just… full.

“I didn’t want you to feel alone with this,” he said quietly.

The words slipped past her defenses before she could stop them, warmth spreading through her chest.

“You don’t?” she asked softly.

He shook his head. “No.”

Silence settled again, but this time it felt softer, less uncertain.

Regina studied him, taking in the steadiness of his presence, the quiet strength that radiated from him.

The bond pulsed again — warm, patient, steady.

For the first time since it snapped into place…

Her panic eased slightly.

Because maybe — just maybe —

She didn’t have to face this alone.

  • His Crimson Luna   Chapter 18 — Growing Closer

Dual POV (Regina & Aldric) Regina The afternoon light softened the edges of everything, spilling golden warmth across the living room as Regina and Rebecca sat curled at opposite ends of the couch, cups of tea forgotten on the coffee table between them. Aldric had stepped into the kitchen a few minutes earlier, giving them space without making it obvious — something Regina appreciated more than she could put into words. Rebecca traced the rim of her mug absently, her expression thoughtful but calm. There was a quiet strength in her now that hadn’t been there years ago — not hardened, but steady, like a tree that had weathered storms and grown deeper roots because of them. “I used to hate nights,” Rebecca said softly, her voice breaking the comfortable silence. “For a long time after… everything.” Regina nodded slowly, understanding immediately. “Me too.” Rebecca glanced up, offering a small, knowing smile. “I figured.” There was no need to explain what everything mea

  • His Crimson Luna   Chapter 17 — Rebecca

Morning light spilled through the tall windows of the living room, the pale gold glow softening the edges of everything it touched. Rebecca watched the dust motes drift lazily through the air as Regina laughed at something Aldric had just said. The sound caught Rebecca off guard. Not because it was unfamiliar — she remembered Regina laughing years ago — but because of how different it felt now. Lighter. Stronger. Back then, Regina’s laughter had often been careful, something offered to comfort others even when she herself was hurting. It had been kind, but fragile. Now it rang with something steadier. Peace. Rebecca leaned back slightly into the couch cushion, studying her quietly while the conversation continued around them. Regina sat curled slightly toward Aldric, one leg tucked beneath her, a loose strand of hair falling across her cheek. She brushed it back absentmindedly as she spoke, completely at ease in a way Rebecca hadn’t seen before. And Aldric… R

Dual POV (Regina & Aldric)ReginaThe café sat just off the main road, tucked between a small bookstore and a florist whose windows overflowed with late-season blooms. Regina had passed it countless times over the years, sometimes stopping for coffee on quiet afternoons, but today it felt different.Everything felt different. She paused outside the glass door for a moment, fingers curled lightly around the strap of her bag, steadying her breathing as she watched Aldric through the window. He was already inside, seated at a small table near the back, long legs stretched slightly beneath the table, his broad shoulders relaxed in a way she hadn’t seen often.
